After 11 years, 425 is finally up and running once again. This being a test run, the engine is not fully painted yet. A big thanks goes out to all those who made this restoration possible!
The B&M whistle is supposedly the one it wore in the 1990's, I think 1995 and part of 1996. It was a deep throated six chime step-top, that had a very striking melody to it.

Yes Andy is the owner, he is also a licensed engineer for his railroad. The Late Charlie Kachle tought Andy and Shane and Christ Bost to run steam. Charlie was a engineer for the Reading Company, he started in 1942 as a firmen , but very soon move to the engineer seat. He worked for the railroad from 1942 to 1981. Then in the mid 1980's he came to work for the Blue Mountain & Reading, Now known as the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern, they desolved the BM&R in 1995. Len.
I cannot get over the excitement with the return of this fantastic Baldwin. There is a part of me that goes crazy over 425 and I truly believe that her return shall draw much excitement here in the East. The Whistle, the exhaust, and speeds that she reaches on the mainlines is truly spectacular.

Reminds me of when my great great great grand pappy used to tell stories of firing the coals in the steam boxes! He ran the spin span with woo woo's on it!
I do like a good centered headlight (as in the look that I like), but I do also like the old high headlight look that 425 carried before. 425 used to live across Lake Ponchartrain to me(near Slidell).
I agree. I for one prefer the high-mounted headlight with the round baldwin numberplate in the center of the smokebox, but It's not my engine. It still looks good with the headlight centered, but not quite the same.

The Boston and Maine whistle was on he 425 quite a bit in the early 90s though 96. Its owned by Andy. As for the Reading 6er on her now that also belongs to Andy. The whistle from the 179 is NOT the same. That is owned by an employee of the railroad.
the cabin of the reading & northen 425 looks white they needed to paint the cabin but I like how it runs so fast, in 90s or 80s it was fast imagine how fast you are going on the train
I’ve Heard That 425 Will Go Down For Another Rebuild After Her 2 Final Runs In November of 2022, And Hopefully After Her Rebuild, 425 Will Have A High Light Bulb And A Hammer Ringing Bell.
Yeah. I like that look more than the current one she wears. She is just like her Baldwin Stepsister the number 90 which currently works at the Strasburg Railroad but will soon go down for her 15-year rebuild and inspection. I understand why they had to change her look as a GM&O locomotive with the bell mounted on the top of the front as the Reading and Northern is in a new chapter to their passenger and freight business. She almost looks just like a Reading G Class Pacific type locomotive.
i cant believe that they changed the headlight on it now. i thought it looked so much better in this video. i like how it is now too, but it just doesn't llok the same
Personally, I also think that blue is too "loud." A more faded duller blue would look better, and not as much gold striping, if any. But the white walls go well on her. And I agree 100% about the high headlight.
If this was put to music, it would be Last Train to Trancentral. In fact this engine would be perfect for their music video if they wanted to redo it. Good to see her back.
not sure if its just me but 90's previous look with headlight and numberplate reminds me of Strasburg 90's look and 425's old hammer rung bell sounds very similar to GTW 6325's bell.
Yes to both. 425 and 90 had a very similar front end appearance back then. The bell 425 is wearing here is of Pennsy origins. It does sound like 6325’s.
That'd be the Boston and Maine 6 chime... The one in this video is a Reading 6 chime... Personally, I like the Boston and Maine a bit better also, it has a much deeper tone. Actually, the B&M is probably my favorite whistle out there.
Where in ON do you live, Oscaletrainguy? I know Kingston as I was there July 2006, along with Toronto and Niagara Falls as well. No steam in ON Canada? I thought there's the Hull-Wakefield steam train? And one closer to Toronto? And CP has their steam program. But, eastern PA where I live has the most live steam. Strasburg, Kempton, New Hope, Scranton, Reading & Northern, Middletown, Wilmington & Western in DE and Bel-Del in Phillipsburg, NJ across from Easton, PA.
@@SuperFoxyRailwayProduction6702 I'm surprised they haven't gotten rid of it as the one they use now has seen lots of use with 425. And twice with 2102.
Not sure I understand the question. 425, as built for the GM&N, had a high mounted headlight. It was dropped down to above-center the smokebox door later in its career on the GM&O when it was renumbered #580. It was reverted back to a high mounted light prior to entering tourist service and renumbered back to #425. In 2008, the R&N moved the light back to above-center of the smokebox door and changed the bell to a front-mounted swinging bell off of a Reading engine. 2008 was the first time 425 had a smokebox mounted bell. It has had this appearance ever since, although it was recently repainted to a darker blue/black/silver trim paint scheme with a logo reminiscent of the GM&N in 2015.
