I remember back in like the first grade when I loved steam trains. And I watched this video one day when I was sick on a foggy day. And the memory stuck for a while.

Although I have aged many years since my elementary school days, watching this video regularly hasn't stopped.

Just amazing. But Seriously (I'm really asking, no joke) why is the bell constantly ring. I thought they only ring the bell at stations, rail yards, ect. Not the entire time the train is moving.

If I had my own steam loco, I would have it painted green and blue.

looks like this one was a PRR engine. and it seems to uses two tenders. if the first tender hauls coal then the second one contains water. right? who runs this railroad? if PRR (and subsequently Penn Central) is no more. is it CSX or Conrail?

Are they going to run this beautiful locomotive sometime in 2013?

14 years later and this video is still so amazing. That whistle is so beautiful. Especially when it echoes through the Pennsylvania mountains. I wish they would paint it back into that bright blue paint. What a beautiful locomotive and video.

Beautiful engine, and to my ears, the best sounding whistle I can recall hearing. The Reading, Pennsylvania, and Lehigh Valley Railroads all ran lines through the towns, farmlands, and woods around where I grew up just north of Reading, where the Reading and Northern runs today. I was lucky enough to get to see steam trains on regular runs almost daily as a boy, and I miss them. I was pleasantly surprised by this engine one day a few years ago, when it was running on a track next to a highway I was traveling in northern Berks county. Like the videographer in this video, I paced her while she was on a straightaway there, and loved every minute of it.

Bless your heart. I know how you feel. I grew up watching steam locomotives in action with my late father. They were all gone by the time I was ten. Now, my father is gone as well.

I would really love to see this running that fast again like one of the shots you had. Nothing beats high speed steam.

On the GM&N it was a G-1 class. It has retained it's G-1 class status throughout its lifetime, as far as I know.

Observations: 1.) I don't know if the constant bell-ringing is a Pennsylvania-only thing, but living less than 100 yards from a heavily trafficked grade crossing, I can tell you that it's ubiquitous in modern freight. 2.) That Reading 6-chime makes this blue meanie sound like it's at least five times more intimidating than it actually is. 3.) That secondary "billboard" tender is tacky as all hell, but so is most of NEPA. 4.) I fucking love 425 and I can't wait until 2102 joins it on the main line. I rode that beast as a kid and I'll kill to ride it again.

In Casey Junior's cab is Spongebob, diving him, on his tender is Spike, in the orange passenger car is Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, and Rainbow Dash, on the flatcar with the calliope organ and other stuff is Plankton, and Gary, in the red boxcar is Pokey, in the dark blue boxcar is Fluttershy, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Stewie and Brain Griffin and Roger, on the green car is Mario, Yoshi, and Luigi with the sign "Casey Junior's Back!", in blue car, Joe Swanson, Fat Albert, and Glenn Quagmire, in yellow car Lazlo, Frankie, Squidward, Mac, Bloo, and Grim, in the pink car, Mr.Krabs, Sandy, and Patrick, in the green car Grumby, Raj, and Clam, on the green passenger Bug Bunny, Peter Griffin, Cleveland Brown, Stan Smith, and Daffy Duck, and the Caboose Lois Griffin, Tom and Jerry, and Emmet riding in the back.

This is truly a handsome machine !! My only regrets is I wish I was alive when these machines were brand new !!! Love the past & hate today's ugly ass world !!! Ps. My father & grandfather were workers on the P.R.R. , from steam to desil , 1910 to 1994 !! Grandpa born 1892 !!

can you believe 425 used to be that light blue. Not saying I hate it but she's probably was the bluest steam locomotive I knew til she was repainted to her current blue which I prefer more. Sorry if I pissed off anyone who likes the other blue paint scheme.

What's that thing behind the tender with the "you can ride this train" on it? It's a bit ugly and doesnt match the tender in size

God, I just love how the whistle screams. It’s so powerful.

I usually don’t like super high pitched whistles, but the reading 6 chime is one exception.

Leave the bell where it is, build some fences. And bridges. That way they wouldn't have to tell people this huge very noisy highly visible blue thing was coming and 9:16 no-one would get their camera swiped by railroad employees.

I may be wrong but 425 seems to resemble a USRA light Pacific like Atlantic Coast Line 1504. Is 425 a USRA pacific or a reproduction?

hmm mighty nice looking loco they got there, around here we have the stubborn fiesty npk 765, shes all black has a huge cab, has 8 drivers and a higher operating pressure though, she might not be a mallet nor a northern, and my be shy 300 hp of her big sistere birkshire PM 1225 but she can still haul, did the longest of the new river trains, and first steamer excursion in around the bend since the 1990's last year.

It’s 2019/2020 and I’m turning 18 soon and every time I watch this it brings back so many memories from being a little boy. I would always show this video to my parents.

Nostalgia, what can I say. This version of 425 is all time best and for people who think this is the blue comet, I really disagree. It's not a remake of it either. Still, most of us that watched this video we're kids. It's sad that the later versions of 425's chimes weren't that good as this one, ain't I right?
