Another excellent video. I really enjoyed this with the switching moves in Port Clinton. Your narration is always great, too. I need to get a ride on those RDCs some time. I can't get over what a class act R&N is!
Thanks so much! I hope you get to ride the RDC's someday. They're really comfortable and fun to ride in, and the Reading to Jim Thorpe route is really nice. So many great ways to enjoy the R&N, they are top notch!
Good day all, and good morning Jamie...First comment here... Well super technically, since RDC's have cabs at both ends, every move is a forward move.😊, tio Jimmy
The RDCs have nice horns. Lackawanna used air horns on their steam locomotives. They sounded similar to these RDCs. It was strange, but very neat. Thanks again for a great video.
That would have been strange to see and hear on a steam locomotive, but cool info about that. It would be fun and different for sure. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Very nice video Jamie! You’re definitely right about it being a rare opportunity to catch every RDC in one video, glad you were able to do that. 113 sure did like saying hi to those RDCs one they arrived lol!
Thanks, Collin! I can always catch the RDC's under the PRR bridge on a Pottsville to Jim Thorpe trip later this year, but who knows if there will ever be a chance to catch all six in one video again before the "new" ones get painted. I'm glad I made the decision I did on this one. And that was a lot of fun with the 113 whistling at the RDC's and them honking back. Makes up for me turning the camera off too soon in Tamaqua last year with 425 lol.
Thanks, buddy! The boys and I are finally getting back to video editing today! Well, I'm editing and they're sleeping, but that helps by them not being needy for attention lol! Hope you're doing well too my friend!
Well, interesting! Those RDCs are just as popular as the steamers! I sent you a message on one of your CNJ 113 videos about what the "Blimey British" are doing with steam. And also have seen other videos of 113 in action, seems like R & N uses it quite often, and not just for special occasions! The whole state of Pennsylvania must be a tourist trap for steam power!👍👍🚂🚂❗
Pennsylvania is an absolutely great place if you're a steam fan! So much railroad stuff in general here, and I believe we have more steam locomotives here than any other state except a few others.
And just last week, Amtrak has been approved for 110 mph on the U.P. line that goes through where i live. Thats the newest result of all the track upgrading, etc.
Faster than fairies, faster than witches, Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches; And charging along like troops in a battle, All through the meadows the horses and cattle: All of the sights of the hill and the plain Fly as thick as driving rain; And ever again, in the wink of an eye, Painted stations whistle by.
Just rode the Railroad Explorer IV Port Clinton to NORA yesterday. Was in 9166 the Snack car. These things run smooth, but as a freight conductor anything is better than a GP-40-2
I've got the Railroad Explorer IV video uploading now, and it was a great chase for me. Glad you got to ride that, and the video will be out Friday 5/3.
Hiya Jamie! I bet you needed your super juice for this one!! Oh gosh we were just listening to the horn on these and my son Harry said “that sounds like a donkey” heeeee-haaaaaw 😅 that was great to see the RDC’s in action Jamie, I bet you had a ball 🙌🏼💐💓🌻
Hey there Anita! Lol, I had LOTS of superjuice on this day and on a bunch of others lately lol! Seems I'm always getting an early start between railfanning and the new job, but that actually has been making it easier as I'm getting used to it. That RDC horn sounded rough for sure, kind of annoying to be honest, lol, and you won't hear me say that about many train horns. Interestingly a friend of mine caught that same RDC running by itself the other day and the horn on the other end of it sounds different (and a lot better lol). Thanks for checking this video out, and I hope you and your crew are doing well.
It's always nice to see Minersville in your videos. Btw - how are your indoor track layouts coming. I'm looking forward to seeing more of those videos soon too!
Thanks so much, Bill! Unfortunately I haven't had any time to get near my train layouts recently. I still have to catch up on editing videos too. Soon though I hope!
Glad you enjoyed it Dennis! And forget self-driving cars, I'm working on self-chasing and self-filming trains! This way I can spend more time doing what I love which is sitting at my desk doing real work. 😅
Maybe the R&N now needs is to acquire LV RDC 40, Amtrak Vintage Coach, Reading Crusader Coach and Maryland & Pennsylvania 81 from the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania!
@@JamieMakin Depends on if it's self-propelled or just used as passenger cars. RBMN probably has the most self-propelled, but here at my local railroad we have about 10 or so and two in storage, except they're all not self propelled and just have working steam generators and electricals. Once every blood moon they'll use one of them as a cab car if their caboose is being used on a different train!
@@JamieMakin Hobo & Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad. Some are in Lincoln NH while more and the cab car one are in Meredith NH. Right now all of them are in Lincoln until they go back up to Meredith since their operation hasn't begun yet
9166? As far as I know it was on the fall trains from Pottsville to Jim Thorpe. But I'm not totally sure as I was working a lot of a different train during fall foliage season. All three of them are together again in Reading getting ready for the April 6th start to this year's trips.
