Hot diggity! I LOVE watching your walkthroughs! I have a general question for the community. I'd like to track the number of different authors I read each month. Is there a way to combine COUNTIF and SUMIF in the same cell? I kind of figured out how to do it, but I have to adjust the cells it looks at in the formula for each month. "=SUM(1/COUNTIF(BookSurvey!F2:F12,BookSurvey!F2:F12))" is the formula I found that works. Is there a way for it to base it off of the date range? Similar to how the Books per Month and Pages per Month work. I hope that all made sense. lol

First off, I've been searching for how to create a workable spreadsheet to track all my books I owned. I even attempted my own with Microsoft excel adding book covers to each one. But I haven't a clue what I was doing but luckily I found your tutorial on your 2017 spreadsheet on RU-vid. (Yeah me! 😃) Great job every body involved with how detail this is and I can't wait to download. A couple questions: 1. Do you have a sub-genre category available or will I have to create my own with pull down chart? Or I guess I could list that under the genre category. For example, I want to say track how many paranormal books I'm reading vs another sub genre of in that sub-genre. Or witches vs vampire vs werewolf sub genre. Robots vs aliens etc. Is that possible? 2. Tracking Series, I see you have it there as well as what number your on. Can it show all authors and each series completed, not finished, just started. I really want to see a visual of that? Like being able to pull up an author and show named of series of books together. Is that possible? For example on my Kindle in collections I have author (Last name, first name), series name. When I go to that author's last name it will show each series in separate collections group together. It was what inspired me to track all my books especially those with multiple series through excel. Could a hyperlink be created to group series together so if I click that author it will show all the series I have read/will read etc from that author. I hope I'm making sense here. A lot of authors for example romance authors have several different series and I want to track the different types of series I'm reading/will or won't read/have read by the author with their series name together.
@LetsReadSFF
@LetsReadSFF 3 года назад
Since every genre and subgenre can't be anticipated they will need to be added as a pull-down in the categories tab. A sub-genre could be dupicated from the genre column and some additional charts made. As to your second point, there may be a solution involving pivot tables that you can create as per your whim.

Ooop, I have another question. haha. I want to record all my acquisitions from before 2021, but I think the stats are limited to this year? How do I change the conditions of the date column to include the books from years before 2021 into the other categories too? So, I can input dates before this year, but then in my charts, only the 2021 books are showing up. If that makes sense...
@LetsReadSFF

Ah yes. Right now the spreadsheet only works for its designated year. It's always been a goal to make it include data over multiple years, but haven't found an elegant way to do that. This might be the push I need to try.

I confused myself about the series-related categories... is this how it makes sense to generally differentiate? As someone who likes to add a "blank" rating in the ratings category I thought I might use the 0 for that this year in order to actually track it, however - in the Summary tab under 'ratings' I noticed that it still counts '0 stars' as one star in the total star tracker. I might be missing it, but why isn't there a column for Author Race? Like instead of Race just being under diversity, having an individual chart for, I read 16 Black authors, 3 Indian, 4 Native American, etc.
@LetsReadSFF
@LetsReadSFF 3 года назад
Because I've not yet found a good way to record and show that information without adding fifteen more columns. I've never been happy with my curent solution because issues of disability and race can be separate things and some stories may have aspects of both. Be it by author, by theme, I've run into to situations where I'm assigning traits and categories which might not reflect the author's intent or identity at all. I suppose a column could be created similar to Country but with labels for race as well.
@LetsReadSFF

Hi I was referred to this. I cannot wait to enter my data. Under accusations can I add all of my physical and digital owned books? I guess I am unsure. A goal for me for 2021 is to read what I own. I am wondering if this could be where I would input this or will it alter the data of what I may purchase in the year 2021.
@LetsReadSFF
@LetsReadSFF 3 года назад
Right now the spreadsheet is designed to account for only items obtained in 2020. You could add everything that you own to Acquisitions but some numbers down the road would be skewed. And then it would need to be entered again once the 2021 spreadsheet is released. If you enter them as you read them under "Book Survey" it would work normally, providing the TBR count has been entered for the number of books you have. People have often asked about putting their current collections into the spreadsheet. I may have to find a way to do that.
