Good morning from Alabama. Enjoy watching this video. Asking special prayer for my husband, Joel who is battling cancer but is getting close to the end of his battle. He sits and thinks deeply about things, this morning he was worrying about how I will make it financially after the Lord takes him home. I told him that I had given it thought and I would be a good steward over whatever God blesses me with.

Dear Lord, I am praying right now and until I am told to stop for Joel. I pray that You take away this cancer, I pray that You give him peace, strength and understanding as he goes through this. I pray for strength for Joann as she ministers to him and his and her family. I thank you for the doctors and nurses, that have taken time from their lives to study and learn how to take care of not just him but all of us. I thank You for being our God. I ask this in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus, Amen.

I hear sorghum comes in a few forms, but there it a type that is good for molasses and for the grain. Have you thought of growing some? It is known to be more tolerant of drought and less fertile soil. I also heard that next to oats and barley, it is the most healthy common grain that can be consumed. The stalks and heads also make great feed for the animals on the farm.

Here in the NW, that type of plow is called a disk plow. As you pointed out, they do a great job. Would like to have one myself, except we use rollover plows and not seen one in a disk plow. Glad your weather might be cooling down a wee bit as ours is out in this part of the country. In fact they say higher elevations in some areas see snow. Lord help us this winter and give use lots of moisture, as we are short on irrigation water. Blessings to all and have a wonderful week.

Hello Danny and Wanda. I'm sure it's nice to have the field for the corn all plowed for next year. The cows are definitely enjoying what you shared with them. I'm glad the fence held up well but yes do have to contend with flowers and vines no doubt. Your diligence to stay on top of what needs done is such a good example that others need to see. Hope will help to move the blueberries and not have them there. Thanks for sharing. Blessings from the Father as you go forth.

I sure enjoy watching soil being turned over since I don't plow a garden anymore after the passing of my wife almost 6 yrs ago. We only raised a few cows and made hay, no large field tillage. I'm in the Missouri Ozarks, and I don't think a disc plow would work here, too many rocks. I'm afraid the disc would have a hard time "cutting" through as you said. Plowing a garden here always brings up more rocks to be picked up. Of course, only gardeners pick up rocks, not the farmers. Yes, we had a big enough garden to justify turning with a 2 bottom plow on an old Case VAC. I do miss those days. Was 52 degrees this morning, and I found my first tomato hornworm of the year. Thought I was going go make it through the whole year without having one. Enjoy watching as you work the soil and plant. Also enjoy as you explain why putting the organic matter down into the soil is important.

One solution I adopted this spring to enable no-till with a 1940s planter was setting the cultivator shoes at the row width to strip-till a groove where the planter 'elf-shoe' rows can follow in. The strips do set the corn seed deeper than surrounding soil in a shallow trench but gives a water holding channel and corn's brace roots can grip more easily anyway. I fall planted winter rye, then in the spring ran the strips and planted leaving the rye standing. Then ran a roller down and back to flatten the rye into a mulch weed barrier mat once the corn emerged (cultipacker, lawn roller, or even stepping on a fence post). The rye brings up moisture from three to six feet below the surface (breaking through the hard pan, during a six week long drought here this year made me a believer of it) and the corn races ahead of weeds that struggle to start under the rye mat. I even tested broadcasting dry beans into the standing rye and the beans sprouted after a soaking rain, rolled the rye down after emergence, and have a thick population of beans that shaded out all weeds. Do some experimenting, what you learn you can pass along to the rest of us. I know a guy who does five thousand acres no-till/no-fert/no-sprays this way (he does have a no-till drill), so it can work.

About to put my ignorance on full display here... :) I've never seen soil being turned before & I'm surprised at how deep the blade cuts! What is it, 8 or 10 inches? It's fascinating to see how the blade tosses everything to where it oughta be! I'm in a red-mud section of NC and do all of my growing in raised beds (available ground is about the size of a postage stamp), but we're always hearing warnings of being certain the ground is good & dry - as I clearly can see yours is, particularly after the drought - to avoid compacting our red clay. Is that an issue at all in MS?
