The part that made my day: 1:53 - petting your dog... and his/her reaction. Who's a good Co-Pilot? YOU are a good co-pilot! So absolutely adorable. Oh - yes - and the review is awesome - of course it is. Always good to see someone doing a review who knows what they're talking about :) Cheers from Germany!
They are affordable compared to similar high end gear, which is usually from small custom manufacturers and hard to get. And a lot of their new gear is way better than other consumer grade products! I just got their TPR pendular rudder pedals, amazing feel, feels very similar to the Cessna 172 I train on! (Just lighter resistance, like most home sim gear) All metal, brilliant quality construction - this is not the Thrustmaster of old I remember making crappy gear! I am very happy to see Thrustmaster improve like this
A big thank you Captain for an excellent video and review of the Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke and Throttle! It was absolutely fascinating to watch something that passengers never get to see, namely the pilot in command controlling all the inputs on the yoke and the interaction with the throttles. It was a great tutorial on manually flying a Boeing 738 and a great pleasure to watch! I've said it before but you are truly a first class training Captain! If only I was in the position in the real world to benefit from it! Keep up the good work, Sir! Lovely to see Jack! What a beautiful fella he is!
Your "play by play" commentary is incredibly interesting for a guy like me who has no flying experience and recently got into flight simming. It's all so foreign sounding (the terminology, that is), but feel like I'm learning a bit via osmosis through this video. Thank you!
Cheers Stephen! We'll get you up and running on VATSIM flying realistic sectors from A to B in no time! First time I've had an osmosis reference on any video, I have a somewhat hazy recollection of something involving potatoes and tissue paper from some Biology experiment at school! FD2S
Osmosis, lol. A lot like that rubik's cube sitting on my desk with the cross on top, and corresponding color (to white) sitting next to center on each face? And hoping that one day I'll figure it out before I have to pull the stickers. That's osmos :D
Review aside, I'd love to see some more videos with the camera on your inputs. It's really nice to see how many small adjustments you make throughout the flight. I thought in such a large aircraft you wouldn't need to worry about them as much as you do in a 172 for example!
Nicely done on flying a raw data ILS, manual thrust, talking and evaluating, spinning heading and speed bugs. For those of you who don't know, as mentioned, this is a 2 pilot jet, so we depend on knowing our specific duties as PF (Pilot Flying) and PM (Pilot Monitoring). When you are doing everything including talking, teaching, and evaluating, it becomes quite busy flying a desktop PC Simulation. Also, the simulators and feel are usually more sensitive than the real jet or simulator. The lack of Elevator Feel also provides more of a feel challenge for a real Boeing pilot. So, as our Captain demonstrated, and you can see this type of flying on my channel as well, it is actually not an easy task. I appreciate the effort and professionalism of making it look easy, when in fact our eyes, inputs, and tasking are really moving : ), nice job!
A year ago I was able to get in an actual 737 simulator at a mall in another country. I managed to land the plane successfully at the old Hong Kong airport (Kai tak), banked VFR approach over the city to avoid the mountains. Besides riding in the back, the only flying experience I have is flying WW1/WW2 combat computer simulations. Of course i had an actual pilot sitting in the 2nd seat handling the checklist/ instruments. He barely spoke English. )) I had a blast.
Please pay attention to the position of the spring below, otherwise it will hit the baffle and cause a jam. Turning on a steep slope, because the roll causes the pitch arm to change.
Very nice video my old friend👏👏👏 it's been a while since I've been on your channel. In the meantime I have become a real pilot myself and do not play XP11 anymore. Are you part of the PMDG 737 test team for the MSFS? Looking forward to the release sometime early next year. Gonna be lots of fun flying the PMDG 737 in MSFS with that Thrustmaster TCA Yoke for sure. Thanks for the great video Captain 👍
As I watched the video I tried to guess how much that yoke and quadrant would cost.... I guessed at £700, so at £450 I'm just going to have to buy one! Thanks for a very comprehensive review.
RE Reverse thust FD2S. In FS2020 there is a "Toggle reverse thrust" or similar which does what it says so if you assign those reverser levers to Toggle revers thrust you should then be able to modulate the reverse thrust with the thrust levers. I use that setup on the FBW A320neo, works a treat as long as you remember you can only set reverse when the trottles are at idle.Jack's gorgeous, I'll have to kidnap him LOL
Thanks for the info, same in XP11, didn’t want to select that option though as it won’t look right adding REV thrust by moving the levers forward! FD2S
I can't believe how so CUTE Jack is! What a great co-pilot. You should show video snippets of him at the beginning or end of every video. Those clouds 13:41 are rubbish. I do like the yoke cam you could integrate into the corner of your streams. The other corner could be co-pilot Jack cam.
Thank you! Yes the clouds have a strange effect when turning, causing some blurriness. I had to use the high performance version to save some performance but my new PC should be here soon, looking at the option for a webcam during streams (the setup for this video was using a large ring light and Sony digital camera so wouldn't work! FD2S
Thank you for the detaıled explanation!! Actually, i am really surprised why Thrustmaster has chosen 3 slots + 3 slots Throttle design, 4 + 2 slots option would be much more preferable, considering that most of the users will fly on 737, 777 or 787. Anyone who wants to use it for 747 could add 2 slots part. It really disappointed me.
Also, please add the provided TM 4th spring, and test again, many folk have done 737 experience days and found adding the 4th TM spring helps replicated the experience more accurately. Thanks again and superb review. Colin
I imagine this'd be a really good yoke to pair with the newer Honeycomb Bravo for the complete "Commercial Flight" experience at the desktop, since the Honeycomb Alpha yoke is a little too... "Cesna-y"?
Great review, thanks, watched many reviews tonight on this yoke and am about to purchase, just the yoke though, well served with other gear for throttles and rudders ETC ... Thanks, great review. Colin
It's been a while since I've been in the sim and things have moved on a lot. I've been seriously thinking about getting one of these and this has gone a long way to convincing me. Also, snoot boops to your gorgeous doggo
Found this channel and video in my recommended videos section. Great review. Now you got me wondering when you said you’re a 737 pilot in the UK if you fly for Ryanair. I can’t wait to see more content from you. Subscribed.
Great review. It is a shame, however, that Thrustmaster did not add a 4th slot so that Speedbrake and Flaps could both be axis controlled (ala Honeycomb B).
Why is the flap handle missing on the quadrant??? How I supposed to use the flap instead. Biggest reason not to buy it. You only have it if you use 4 engine aircraft if you buy another one. Who did this decision???
Very good review. Very interesting take on the comparison to real life; I learned quite a bit about the actual Boeing flight model as well as what you are actually focusing on during your scan. Thank you.
Thanks for the videos! I just got the YOKE from Amazon canada yesterday, priced at 260$CAD lmaoo (price error, hope they honour it) Super stoked to try that for the first time on the series X!
I bought the honeycomb alpha and bravo yoke and quadrant... love the customization on them! But this yoke looks awesome, too! Think I'd still choose the bravo throttle quadrant though.
I have the honeycomb, I think it depends what aircraft you most care about simulating - honeycomb alpha is closer to my trainer c172 yoke than a 737 yoke, so naturally that's a better fit. The bravo throttle, however, is brilliant and suitable for both GA and heavies! All in all the honeycomb gear is fantastic, but this Thrustmaster yoke is what I'd pick for a 737, along with the bravo throttle
That looked real to me, the approach and landing, forgot it was a sim, you were working that yoke hard, I have to laugh, because I cannot believe how far simulators have come..
Your videos are always excellent instruction. I just purchased the Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke and Quadrant and I would be very interested in your button assignment video when you release it.
Wasn't planning to get this, but after this review and seeing your yoke cam in streams, I think I will be putting it on the list once the PMDG 737 is released.
i will definitely be buying an extra throttle unit because i cannot get over how they did not design it to accommodate the brakes and flaps, that is my only gripe, so to solve that, ill be buying that second throttle unit so i can have a full functioning quadrant
I'm gonna give this video a 1 star rating. I was expecting to see the Labrador's face in the corner on the screen the entire flight, preferably wearing a pilot cap and goggles. I'll press like anyway though.
I saw how slow you were stopping with the reverse thrust. In the flight simulator to activate the reverse thrust, you need to bring back the knobs towards you then put the throttle forward which will control how much reverse thrust your giving it.
Looks as if someone could 3d print up an insert with detents located in virtually any position(s) along with replacement knobs/handles with spring loaded catches/lift-to-move tops. I've the plans in my head, but no reason to put them to paper as I'm a tanker not a flyer online. Cheers and great video.
I have to get me one of these. It probably will not quite have the heft of a Boeing 747-400 or B747-8 yoke, but it will be far superior than the Saitek stick I now use. I suppose you can assign 2 engines to one Thrust Lever for a 4 engine jet. It looks like it would be a great fit for the 787. It looks great for the 737 as you demonstrated. As a retired 747 and 787 pilot, this looks like a welcome addition for a home PC setup. Great video and even greater Dog, patiently listening to your every word in search for the word "treat" or "wanna go out"...
@flightdeck2sim Kind Captain I have a request, could you make a video with a V1 cut or Engine failure for LFML Marseille airport RWY 13L please, I want to learn from you how to do the engine out procedures in case of an engine failure and flying the NDB approach for that airport in case I get it in the simulator practice, it would mean the world to me, thank you : )
Thanks, looks great. Shame that they couldn't get a 3 position landing gear lever on it. I love the knob on the front of the throttle quadrant though. I ordered a Saitek Multi Panel yesterday just to get one of those, so having one on the TQ is a great idea!
There is a reason behind the madness though. It’s based off of the 787, not the 737. Same reason for the flush push buttons, and possibly why it feels light compared to the 737. 787 being fly by wire may have a little lighter control input.
@@speed150mph Interesting points. Feels like they could have added a 3rd position in the middle though, you could just move straight past it if you wanted.
@@weswheel4834 would have been nice. There’s a lot they could have done. Given us a 4 slider throttle quadrant with flaps like they did with the airbus one, and incorporated detents for the speed brake would have also been nice.
@@speed150mph Agree. Also someone needs to invent a way of adding variable detents to a throttle quadrant so that you can have them for the flap positions, or for airbus detents or for "war emergency power", depending on what you're flying :)
Looking at some other comments there might be a workaround for the gear, As @speed150mph said it is based of the 787 which doesn't have the off option, I also would've loved to have the detents for speedbrake and flaps!
Does someone knows how to fix the reversers on The Thrustmaster quadrant? since the last update of MSFS2020 i've been having this problem and its that the reverse thrust is not working for me.
Hi sir, I was just wondering in which video you discuss the settings of your Boeing Throttle Quadrant and yoke. Cannot find the right video so far. Thanks
Hi Capt. I bought it at the end , but is not coming with "plug and play" since I had to configure it and apparently the landing gear doesn't work nicely I have to recycle a couple of times before I can but down again, any suggestions how to fix it ? Thanks so much
