Every airport has a "dog got out and shut down the airport" story. I've only seen 3 happen since I started on the airport 10yrs ago. Edit to add: great story tho, happy to hear it from an ATC perspective! Loving your content!

I was on a flight once when the lady beside me was crying because her dog couldn’t sit in the plane with her. She demanded to speak to the captain to not taxi out so she could get her dog. Everyone would have been late and missed connections. The dog survived (probably) and she kept crying to the destination. Just one of many bad experiences on airline flights.

I remember hearing about a similar incident with a Dalmatian that won the Eukanuba Dog Show. It was being loaded on at JFK in like the late 2000s and got out. They had to shut down a good portion of the airport from what I remember.

What a story! I can only imagine the headlines: “Crazed dog escapes from plane at local airport! A dog escaped from its cage before being loaded onto its flight, and shut down the airport for half an hour before it was caught!”

We had a Australian Shepherd/cattledog mix (before they were blue heelers) who would get loose and lead us on merry chases around the town. I can only imagine the nightmare of trying to catch her at an airport. That dog was wired...

That dog single handedly was the cause of tons of delays this is why I am going to run for president and I will put in place dog traffic control it will be a team of the best of the best dog trainers who will guide all dogs on to the plane in a quick and safe manner and who knows maybe we could expand the DTC to become animal traffic control for any animals that need to be on a plane… yes! It can be called ATC!
