The Toyota C-HR was the first Toyota that followed the 'no more boring cars' motto. And that paid off for Toyota, the C-HR was very succesful. The new strategy didn't scare away the traditional Toyota buyers and it attracted a lot of new customers from other brands. Now, the second generation made it's debut. In this Real Life Car Review I take a detailed look on the second gen C-HR and take it for a nice ride. Once again, the C-HR sets the benchmark for driving dynamics, but does the styling still outweigh the practical aspects of the car?

I’ve just bought the 2.0 litre limited edition, a little tip, instead of scrolling down to cancel the RSA scroll up, it virtually goes straight to it! Great review

Another great review Arnold, looks like a decent car. Shame all new cars are so pricey these days, speccing one up on a UK website was well over £40k. Incidentally, these types of roads are now very familiar to me 😁

I wouldn't buy a car that costs £40k or more on principle. It's an insult that they want you to pay an additional road tax supplement of £410 per year for 5 years. That's an extra £2,050 above the standard tax. When this extra tax was introduced it seemed to target expensive, powerful or large, fuel thirsty vehicles. However, now, due to huge inflation (post COVID and worldwide energy cost), and the trend for more complex vehicles (hybrid/additional safety features) that an ever increasing number of modern, efficient cars will get caught up in the tax rip off.

What is the driving experience like compared to Mazda MX30 R-EV ? I always enjoy watching your reviews , thank you.

Thanks for your comment! In comparison with the MX-30, the C-HR is noticeably sportier and more dynamic in the steering. The Mazda is more laidback, but not to a point where it is too comfortable. It is more of a side effect of its weight, Mazda used that to enhance the ride comfort, but with plenty of driver engagement.

In a nutshell: it's quiet and comfortable, great fuel economy. Straight line stability is outstanding, the only thing you might consider is a smaller wheel size for extra comfort, especially when you do a lot of highway driving.
