JayBOB! Kevin! Finally cornered Kevin, you should make a few treat balls for him, maybe out of the grain mix and honey or marshmallow like rice crispy bars. He'd plow through the whole herd to get to you after a few times. About that nail wound, make sure your tetnass shots are up to date. That's the kind of wound you get it from, Rusty metal punctures. Next time something like that happens, douse it with post dip right away, iodine has been one of the great disinfectants since forever. It will sting allot though. Haven't seen stealth rooster near the cow barn grain bin in ages .....Sunday dinner? 🙄 Take care man.
Tons happening today..love the shade cloth idea, I wondered if that would work for them, like on a greenhouse. Very wise to build back up to 100%. Echo…Tetanus shot!!
As I understand it shade cloth is wonderful as long as you are using it to provide shade, when you drape it over anything touching it is just a heat collector.... ymmv
Glad your getting better. Good that you're building up to milking slowly. But another injury? Looks like you'll treat it right. I assume you're up to date on your tetanus shots. Was that the killer rooster in there? Glad to see Kevin is growing. Hope the sick little one is improving. I really enjoyed the time lapse of feeding the young calf. We're getting lots of hazy smoke down here in Tacoma, too. Must be worse the closer you get to the Canadian border with the wildfires up there. Stay safe and healthy.
Covering a white surface directly with a black shade cloth seems counter intuitive to me. I would try and get the cloth about a foot or so above so that convection can move the hot air away from the top surface of the calf enclosures. Try laying one of those over your car and put a thermometer in it for a few hours with the windows almost up to test that theory. If you haven’t had a tetanus shot lately you should go get one, blood poisoning is no joke. Best of luck!
So what r I guys going to do this year for feed with corn and soyben meal prices and hay prices idno what they expect us dairy guys to do this year... Milk better come way up in price this crap is getting old milking cows and not making anything.
Jaybob....TY for starting with Kevin...He is a growing boy now and prolly thinks he's too "cool" to be a YT "star"..... Hope you don't over do it footwise...running up and down a slick run.....take it easy on that shoulder too....and clean that rusty nail wound with some alcohol and iodine and an anti-bact bandage....have you had a tetanus shot in the last few years? If not.. You might want to consider getting one....don't need any more one armed dairymen... just sayin'....
