My next door neighbor rented a Stihl earth auger a few weeks ago and I helped him dig some holes for a fence with it. It rocked and rolled just like yours does, so I'm guessing that's the normal reaction of the bit interacting with the ground. It also stalled a few times on tree roots and such, and basically beat us up for about 6 hours, but it beats the crap outta digging holes by hand with a post hole digger, lol. Bought this same HF auger today and will be using it for digging fenceposts tomorrow, can't wait to try it out. Thanks for a good, honest review. 👍
Top tip never leave gas in something not being used for long periods. Best to drain it and let it run till the lines are empty. Store it that way for anything longer than 3-4 months. Saves so much headache down the road.
As you dig, it is best to pull the dirt out of hole every few inches with auger running. There is no reverse. I broke the pull mechanism (all plastic) after burying the full bit up to engine. Digging out the bit with a shovel is no fun.
If you unscrew the air filter box cover and take the filter off it'll start way better, just remember to reinstall air filter and cover before you go digging man lol good luck. I just got a 40v hp to avoid the annoyance lol
Just bought one unused, but 3 years old and no fuel ever been in it. 100$. I think i got a good deal, hope, bit has never seen dirt. Still has plastic cap on shaft.
I squeeze the throttle while starting to keep it from flooding. It doesn't like old gas so I had to tip it upside down and pour it out this spring, even with stabil.
Yeah I hear if you don't start a motor like that for months it gums up and it won't start, pr so easily. Gotta start it now and then to keep it healthy.
I was raised to run all the gas out of the engine, and gas tank. Then store. Do not have to worry about the gas going bad, or old gas gumming up the Carb.
@@striker1211 Taryl Fix All channel did a test of the different stabilizer products. Did the test for over a year. Each month he would start the lawn mower engines . Two engines just had straight gas. They all cranked up every month except one. even the just gas motors. He decided. If you start the motors every month, and let them run for a bit. When it hits a root you better be stronger than the root or paying attention because a big one will break arms, this one more than likely has the power to really hurt someone that doesn't know how to run it but they are nice and time savers that's forsure!
Mines still working pretty good, but I've only done like 50 posts. It's not professional grade but it's got me through a few jobs. I wish it had an 8 inch auger though.
