I think what you are calling "mistakes" in the first clip are actually scripted. Not scripted in the way that it was made on purpose to look exactly like that, but scripted in the sense that that's what they were going for in general, a clamsy performance of cheap magic tricks, something that matches the character. So, obviously Carrell didn't get any sort of instruction on how to use those gimmicks correctly, nor was the intention at any point.

Those tricks DID take rehearsal to do... sure he was playing the clumsy magician but as someone who’s been in magic for close to 30 years. I stand by my review. You're wrong

In the first clip: Yes, there's a lot of pressure on Steve Carrell to perform all those tricks in a row-but also, I imagine Michael Scott is not that great a magician, so it makes sense to me that he would expose the trick and such. Also, I just want to say, Eric, that I love you so so much! I watch your show Tricked all the time, and I just love your energy and enthusiasm and your devious pranking mind. I wish you lived down the street from me, cuz I think we'd be great friends! :D Thanks for being AWESOME!!!

I'm surprised you missed the thumb gimmick, maybe I saw it straight away cos I was looking for it. The actor does a good job of hiding the edge of it from the camera angle, so maybe he has a casual interest in magic performance himself (I wonder if he was playing a joke on the rest of the cast that didn't get filmed.... 'I forgot my lines, oh hang on (grabs at the air above his head ...whilst dumping the gimmick in to pocket with other hand... 'oh here they are' revealing slip of curled up paper from the top of his head -or out from his ear)

Fantastic video Eric! I love it! When I started watching your video I was ready to leave a comment about TT, I wasn't sure if you knew it. What's crazy is, I noticed it the first time I watched it, but I thought Steve would do a magic trick with it. I think what happened is he did the trick but they removed it when editing the show. “Cult hit show”. The Office got extremely high ratings most the years it was in and was Thursday night appointment TV. Not sure why people are calling it a cult classic these days. It’s a fun show but it’s mainstream as hell.

I think Steve's scene was meant to be sloppy. I remember him talking to the loathsome Steve colbert at some time and he had some experience with rudimentary tricks i guess if the point was to perform it well he could handle it.

Well I think with some of the tricks that he did there was kind of it didn't really matter if there was a mistakes because it's Michael doing the trick so if he makes a mistake it's kind of it's funnier that way
