REAL or FAKE Van Cleef Diamond Necklace? 

Imagine basically finding 10k on the ground

If someone tries to claim it...ask for proof, the original purchase receipt, photos wearing it, insurance appraisal...

Yeah, retail is $10,000, but there's no way you could sell it back or resell it for $10,000. Diamond jewellery doesn't work that way

I have the same necklace but in yellow gold. If he really wanted to find the owner, he only needs to bring it to Van Cleef and they can look up the serial number, as every piece of jewelry they sell has a serial number and is registered to the original buyer. The guy just wanted to see if the diamonds were real to resell it. I doubt he intended to look for the owner to return it… 😏

When I was in high school, I found an expensive gold bangle bracelet at a local Kmart. Left my contact info after I had turned it in. Policy was that if no one claimed it, they would give it to whomever found it after a period of time. I called and checked and was told that the owners had claimed it. I was honestly happy that they had. My boyfriend worked at that store, so I would go there often. Lo and behold, one of the managers had on the bracelet. I asked about it, and she said she bought it in an auction of lost and unclaimed items that the store does periodically. I’ve wondered ever since if they lied to the owners too and said no one ever turned the item in so they could get it on the cheap. If you for sure want items returned to their owners, my suggestion is to leave basic information with the store but hold onto the item until the owners can reach out and verify the details.

My husband works a trade outdoors, and he found a necklace on the ground in a commercial parking lot. It was all dirty and gross looking; he reported it to the property management but no one claimed it so after a few months he brought it home to me and threw it on the table, saying it’s probably worth nothing but I found this. So I slowly started cleaning it and noticed it was actually rose gold colored, then I cleaned it some more and realized it had all the markings of a Tiffany 18k gold necklace. I found the necklace style still listed on their shopping website. Holy crap! It was my best Christmas present, I wear it all the time 😅 it’s a pretty basic style, but the rose gold is just stunning.

He was obviously gonna sell it because you don’t go and get someone stuff priced if you wanna give it back to them.

Take it to the boutiques. I think they have serial numbers and can find through that

I am starting my jewelry collection but I don't own anything from luxury brands. I saw a real Van Cleef once it was owned by jeweler where I bought my gold necklace. She let me try it and I'm telling you it was really something. It was a large size pendant with mother of pearl. The mother of pearl is beautiful but I prefer pure gold jewelry. Gold is still more valuable than MOP but I can really see why Van Cleef is so popular. Their craftsmanship is top notch. She said it was not brand new but still a Van Cleef is a Van Cleef.

The person who bought it may not have been the last owner. Could have changed hands multiple times, lost, found, sold, bought.

When I was about 8 I found a necklace on the ground. It was a cross, one layer of like some kind of gold colored stuff next layer was the same but with diamonds in it and in the middle of that layer was a white pearl. I lost it and I still don't know of it was real or fake. There were holes in the back which my grandma told me was for cleaning it. And I remember seeing something like 23 or 24 or 28 karat. I would really like to find it someday, which I think is just about impossible 😅

Most high-end jewelers have registries for their work. You might try looking for a serial number, call the company, they may be able to trace the owner/purchaser.

Based on the serial number, VCA should be able to track the owner, even if it went on the resale market

The serial number and owner info is listed with Van Cleef, they would be able to track the owner.. even if bought second hand, there may be a paper trail.

Oh man some woman out there was screaming 😂 My mom dropped a solid gold natural sapphire and Diamond ring bc she had it on her lap while putting on lotion in her car and forgot about the ring, didn’t remember until way later that day so she assumes it ended up in a parking lot somewhere bc it had to have fallen out of her lap when she got out of the car, I suppose this a a common unfortunate way valuable jewelry ends up dropped out in parking lots 😭

Plenty of people make expensive fakes with real diamonds. The diamonds are real but is the quality of the workmanship Van Cleef?

How much would it really end up reselling for? Im curious. I know diamond jewerly doesn't have great resale.

I work with jewelry every day. I work with stuff that cost a thousand to hundreds of thousands of dollars, if you were to pay 10k for that, you straight up got scammed. The only possible way that thing could cost 10k is if the stones are at an impeccable quality.

My mom and I were pulled over at a parking spot very close to a Marina and when my mom got out of the car, she found a Ziploc bag with some things in it, and when she pulled it into the car, we looked at it and it was full of diamond rings and a 24 karat gold necklace. My mom, being the good Christian lady that she is posted it in the local newspaper as lost , this was before the Internet. Sadly, nobody responded to the ad.😢 We then had the jewelry appraised after two months in the newspaper and it was appraised at $25,000 .

Due to the item havin serial numbers the person who lost it has either an appraisal signed in their name or and a GIA report so you delling it would snowball into something

Guarantee he found the best price and never bothered to find the owner of the jewelry. He has a “honeymoon to pay for.” 100 to 1 odds he didn’t try to find the owner for 2 months.

Even if is diamonds doesn’t means is VCA .. there’s a lot of fakes with real gold and diamonds.

The fact that the diamonds are real does not mean this is a real VC necklace. There are plenty of fakes made from real gold and diamonds.
