Make no mistake, Livyatan was the ancestor of modern day Killer Whales - Orcas. The very same animals that torture biggest and most aggressive great white sharks for hours by drowning them and devouring their livers laughing like psychopaths of the sea. There is a huge chance that Livyatan used the same shark-destroying tactics over Megalodon. Especially if it hunted in PODS like Orcas.

Lots of parallel with big mammals of the time. Bigger doesn't equal better. It often hinders the animal instead. Small mammals thrives while big went extinct. Short birth cycles, less need for food and more accessible food sources all play a part. Pretty much same story with megalodon. Smaller sharks even ancestors of the great white outcompeted it out of the food chain. The temperature change also played a part.

I refuse to believe the Megalodon doesn't exist anymore.. the ocean so vastly unexplored that anything can hide from us in it..
@Matthew-Anthony
@Matthew-Anthony 2 года назад
There could be many animals that are thought to be extinct which could still exist in the world. However, the megalodon is not one of them. It is simply too large for it to have not been discovered. Its appetite requires that it eat a lot of food, most notably whales. There is no way that it could have not been noticed by now.
@bushdidharambe4219
@bushdidharambe4219 2 года назад
As has already been stated, animals being thought to have been extinct and then showing up is possible and has happened; however those animals were small or extremely elusive, a megalodon is just too large to hide for so long. Simply put it eats so much that there would be mostly eaten whale carcasses washing up in beaches daily in large numbers. While whale carcasses do pop up on shore or in the ocean and have teeth marks/bites taken out you can see the bites are much smaller than the megalodon’s bite. A megalodon would bite whales in half, simply unseen today. Sorry man.
@the_gaming_hyena

@Matthew-Anthony
@Matthew-Anthony 2 года назад
@@Jules279The great white shark is actually, ridiculously fragile. It🦈 can not survive being in captivity in the same way that other marine animals do. The world record for the longest time a great white shark has survived after being caught is SIX WEEKS. That record is also far longer than the second place record. In other words, the most fearsome ocean predator (not including orcas) in the entire world, can not manage to remain alive, even when humans do everything they can to try to keep it from dying. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

@johnshields6852
@johnshields6852 2 года назад
Megalodon's size was probably part of the extinction factors, I mean this creature couldn't just eat an average size fish or mammal to survive, it needed high fat content animals in the same way great whites need them, I live near cape cod mass. and in my youth back in the 60's and 70's there were very few great whites because there were no seals, now the seals are back and the great whites have made a huge comeback, I think that's exactly what happened to meg, for whatever reasons, probably many reasons the Meg couldn't sustain itself. I also believe Meg was very close to a great white, nearly identical to great whites, only likely 3 times it's size, one of the most amazing creatures ever to live.

There have been many reports and findings that tell of Meg's being food for many other creatures including the Ictyosour family, (Yes I can't spell.) some ancient whales, and even other marine creatures. I do not have the exact information on hand, But I do know that it DID get hunted by other creatures through out the time of its estimated existence.

@vCLOWNSHOESv
@vCLOWNSHOESv 2 года назад
@Fire truck 23 We have explored a lot more than 5% of the ocean, so when you hear that, you have to understand they're talking about the ocean floor. Great white sharks and other large predatory sharks hunt near the surface because that's where all the large prey is. If a giant version of a great white existed, it would be known because it would be hunting large prey at the surface, which means boats would be affected as well as swimmers. There would have to be a lot of megalodons out there to support a breeding population, so there's no way they wouldn't be well documented by now. Just think about all of the deep sea life we have on video, then try to imagine a 60-foot great white species remaining hidden? It's almost impossible.
