My wife doesn’t care😞. We’ve been to countless seminars and pastors and read books, listened to podcasts, marriage counseling that have all said the exact same things. Our marriage counselor says my wife and father in law have an enmeshed relationship with narcissistic tendencies. Her dad has made her his surrogate wife and tells me flat out “she’s MY daughter” and “she’s my best friend” and tells me this isn’t how marriage works (he’s divorced and 3 times at that). I recorded one of his verbal beat downs when I confronted him about a boundary he crossed and let our pastor hear it. He shook his head say it that’s not acceptable, but then said he isn’t a marriage counselor and walked away. My father in law does everything he can to remain her provider and make sure she constantly looks to him for her needs. It’s so bad I’ve actually had people ask if they could be having sex. Because of this relationship dynamic she can’t leave and cleave and has intimacy issues. Getting close to me makes her feel guilty for not giving that to her daddy. So we have no intimacy on any level. I’m here to meet her needs only. She says sex isn’t important and flirting is only for young couples. She tells me her daddy will always be her number one man. I live in a marriage with a one sided covenant. When I look in the mirror all I see is a tool for her needs. We don’t have sex for many months at a time. There is no kissing or hugging or holding hands or saying I love you, but I watch her do those things with everyone else. I don’t remember what it feels like to place my lips on hers. The second I let her know that this is hurting me she starts bullying me down (counselor’s words). Everything is fine with her as long as I don’t say anything. We haven’t had sex in almost a year this go around and the lack of Intimacy and oneness in our marriage with her dad as a third wheel is wrecking our family on all levels. It’s been 14 years of this so far. Where is the end of the tunnel? I can’t take much more, but she’s my wife. She’s done listening to everyone else so she stopped going to counseling, but whatever her dad says trumps everyone else anyway.
