I highly recommend watching the previous videos in this series of Safecracking for Everyone in order to fully understand what I am doing here. • Safecracking for Everyone
You can easily get a faster time just by getting faster and more precise at dialing, I just haven't practiced in a while and took my first good take of the day.
Here the technique I use is isolating the 3rd wheel, then when I find a gate signature, isolate the 2nd wheel with the 3rd wheel on it's correct number, then brute force the 3rd wheel. Kinda risky as the 3rd wheel isn't guaranteed to read first but does lead to the fastest opening times. Also, I don't check for the center of each gate I find because I trust my precision in dialing.

Thanks for sharing!!! I do locksmith work, but I don’t have much safe experience. With the help of you videos, I was able to open a safe for a customer today. I was not able to get it in less than 8 minutes like you did, but I feel much better about my abilities now and I think with more practice I’ll get it down to a respectable time one day…. Thanks again!

I have a GSA container filing cabinet with a Sargent & Greenleaf lock. It’s my mother’s who died a year ago. Are you near Monterey California? How much would you charge to crack it?
@lockmanipulator
@lockmanipulator Год назад
That's a 5 hour drive for me unfortunately. If it's a GSA container with an s&g lock on it, it's most likely a group 1 safe lock. Usually an s&g 8500 series or depending on the age, the older 8400 series. These are considered high security and in most cases it would be faster and cheaper to find a local locksmith to drill it (still not cheap since they have hardened steel plates to resist drilling) as the vast majority do not know how to crack even the simple group 2 safe locks I have my video tutorials on. I can manipulate the lock open with no drilling or damage but the cost for travel, accomodations, and the job itself would be several thousand dollars minimum. If you would still like to get an accurate quote, my business email is lockmanipulator@gmail.com.

I watched your videos for safecracking. You explaning things extreamly clearly, great videos indeed! I am planning to give a try for 6741 using your concepts (have not received it thou). Only addition will be that I will attach an absolute encoder into the wheel to get those readings. Do you have experience if it helps any in the detection of those left/right edge position differences? If that functions well then going to add an tension sensor and try to see if able to detect those left/right edge positions seen as tension steps in the sensor measurement. If that functions well then going to add an servo motor to do the disk turning task.

I've been working on creating a safecracking robot, but I have no experience in electronics. That sounds like a good way to do it though, let me know how it works! I've been looking for the proper components for a while so I'm super interested in seeing how it turns out for you.

@@lockmanipulator I have experience in electronics and servo drives & motors and position/speed/tension sensors and embedded programming. But I am still missing the lock. Need to wait for the delivery before can start playing with it. Challenge is that I have not done so far anything that should detect so small tensions. Normally in industrial machinery applications needed tension is relative to used motor tensions. I am not sure if able to find suitable components for this case. That will know after play with it some
@idanhurja
@idanhurja 3 года назад
Proper alignment of the absolute encoder is the first challenge. To do it I might need to modify a bit that wheel that is used to set dials. Or then put the encoder next to turning wheel using some gear, but then the backlash in gear will result some noise to measurements

Your series left me with two questions and they were both anwered in your book: 1) How is a group 1 lock different? 2) How did you get into lock manipulation - hobby or professional? Thank you again for placing your book online. You should put the title and your name on the first page and for clarity maybe say that it is copyright. If you choose to allow sharing then creativecommons has some options. If you want to add another video to this series you might talk about the alternatives to lock manipulation when trying to open a safe (e.g. looking for the combination written nearby) or how the movies get it wrong - only if that interests you.

I won't be using the correct terminology but hopefully you will understand the question. If a lock was assembled with the drive cam deliberately out of phase with the number wheel would it pose any significant problem for a safecracker? If they were to assume "0" was the starting point when in actuality it was "25" would that be much of a stumbling block?
@lockmanipulator

Not sure what you mean by out of phase but I assume you mean the placement of the spline key so that the contact area is in a different spot? If so, that's ok. As long as the drive cam and wheels interact with each other to produce normal operation then you can have your starting point be anywhere!

If the dial doesn't lock up when the handle is turned and you can feel 2 contact points then it should be a group 2! You can see how many numbers are in the combination by spinning a bunch of times in one direction the turn the other way and feel for the number of wheels that pick up.

@@lockmanipulator I can just touch the point then if I release my finger the dial moves back very slightly, 1/8 to 1/4. I think it may just be the weight of the dial lock seeking to center itself.
