I am a mountain biker and avid trial runner. Bike bells have saved me from collisions during both activities many times. Yes, they can be a bit annoying but its worth it. Thanks for the great review, I am going to test this one. I like the hands off option.

Cool bell. I just got a mountain bike again after about 25ish years of not having one and wow!! I can't believe how many more trail users there are now days!! Back in the 90's I rarely would ride and have to yield or be careful passing someone but now it's crazy so yeah, this bell is a must. BTW. Back in the day Mount Falcon was my favorite trail! I'd bike or run up and down it 3 to 4 days a week from the Morrison trail head. I can't wait to make it back there; however, I know I'm going to be a lot slower LOL!!

I have a cheap bear bell from REI which I strap to my saddle rails, it's not easy to mute, so that's the big disadvantage. If it's annoying and I'm in a less popular area, I'll keep it in my bag or mute it with the magnetic strap I've definitely found it to be helpful at busy city / county parks with lots of hikers and dog walkers. I tend to be less surprising. The Timber bell seems like a great upgrade, I'll probably consider it. Thanks for the review / demo.

Bought one a few years ago when they were at the Sedona bike festival. Mounting system goes soft if you leave it mounted for a long time. Makes it hard to turn on and off easily. I found that putting several twists in the rubber strap makes it stay put.

+Kelly Brooks that's good to know, I have also noticed the mount doesn't stay consistent

Probably the best use for this bell is for warning hikers. I've got one but we have very few hikers on my trails. I've heard it called the dinner bell for bears.

+Brian Vaughn Hikers are my main concern. The whole idea behind bear bells is that they don't get startled which this would do as well.

"I may be old and fat but at least I'm slow." - Me I always ride with a bell, a "bear bell". Not because I'm fast, just to let other trail users I'm on the trail. Good content!

Not sure, but I believe the bell is still posed to be mounted facing forward rather than down. Hen you do this, the different switch positions give different sounds.

If the bell was mounted facing forward, the clapper (part that strikes the waist) would be laying down, limiting any sound. The bell needs to be hung vertically so the clapper is hanging centered and can freely strike any side of the waist. Mount the bell vertically then look under and adjust the angle so the clapper is hanging freely in the center.

Got the Timber Bell recently after watching your review. Have u encounter bigger dogs chasing you when you rode past them? My wife was riding right behind me and saw a leashed dog trying to run after me.

I initially watched for the review on the bell. However I was quickly enamored with your sweatshirt. Is that a national brand sweatshirt? As a CU grad I have a thing for buffaloes.

Yea, but it looks like they are running out. You can find them at tasco-mtb.com ( www.tasco-mtb.com/collections/mens-hoodies/products/roa-bison-hoodie-adult?variant=41217365450 ). They also appear to have tshirts with the design.

Make sure your handlebars can turn and it completely clears the top tube. Got a good scratch from a crash. And I’ve found hikers do here me before I can get close enough to tell them. They have time to pull the dog in close.

Keeping it on while riding is super irritating. Wish it was easier to turn on off with your thumb. Good review
