Ok, so it's a review about... a bike bell - the Timber 3.0 Quick Release Mountain Bike Bell to be precise. But hear me out; it's definitely the best product on the market for promoting trail awareness and it's great because you can switch it to silent mode when you don't need it.
Bike bells are either manually actuated (not safe to operate while bombing single track) or automatically actuated (annoying if always ringing). The Timber bell solves this problem by incorporating a switch for automatic action when on, and silence when off.

Would have loved to see/hear the product being used on various trail/terrain types and cycle thru the different modes. You mentioned that it's hard to hear when a biker is coming from behind, so perhaps you could include footage from a fellow trail user's perspective when using this product. Looks like you had a bunch of video of you using it, but didn't include any with sound. I liked your commentary, but I came to your video with intent to see it in action and all I got was you jingling it for a couple seconds.

Yea makes sense, but the clips showing the sound of the bell is very representative of how it sounds on the trail. Loud enough for anyone to hear within 50-100ft (likely more). I'm a one-man operation, so 3rd person perspectives are often challenging.

Omg thank you . I am a avid horse camper. And it is so respectful to hear bikers coming down the mountain so we can get away 😂 I’m talking my son to the beach and I’m looking for the best bells . So he can warn people that they got a 7yr old who will cut you off ! So they can look and see! Ok get the F out of the way ! Just like us horse people do when respectful riders do ❤️ when they are hauling ass down the mountain! I really don’t blame them 😃

I'm a novice rider, and I had to pull off the trail after eating shit hard last weekend. A few guys went by and they had these bells (they were ripping) and it was FANTASTIC knowing when they were coming so that I didn't re-enter the trail at the worst time possible. At that moment I knew I had to have one of these bells. I don't exactly rip, but I wanted to have SOME way to notify other riders when my dumb ass is coming down the trail.

I've encountered these bells on bike paths and trails and it is beyond quiet. It's like hearing a fairy world in a distant land but instead it's someone trying to pass you and they're less than a yard away.

Great review and just in time as I was on a night ride in the forest and at some times so scared of wild life that I sang a lot. A bell like this would've been super usefull for that. You are doin great - thanks and keep it up! Big like from another family man and avid cyclist out of Germany!😄✌️

I successfully tested my Timber! bell at 6am this morning. I had the bell on and was chugging up a hill, pinging away, when a black bear jumped out of the brush onto the logging road about 6m/20ft away. It turned towards the noise/ me and then ran up the hill and off into the forest on the other side of the road. I had bear spray on my top tube but I doubt I could have put my hand down in time if the bear had moved towards me than away. Do I recommend this bell? Hell Yeah!

When in Cali 4 years ago I heard others Mtn bikes behind me and this bell. I purchased one when I returned to Massachusetts. This bell is well know in Cali. I hope your video gives this great bell a wider exposure. Funny though when coming up to elderly walker, It's the woman who hears the bell. The men hardly do.

Yes... I can confirm, absolutely a great friendly sound for people you may found on the trail.....only.. after a few ride on the mountain I lost the small striker inside the bell and I don't know how to replace it and what could be a similar and most appropriate solution...can you help me?

How long have you used it for? My timber! Is coming up to 2 years old now and the plunger/lever to release the striker has failed. It no longer locks in place and any small bump will force the lever down to the 1st notch allowing the bell to activate. Pretty frustrating. I can't say I could recommend the bell. But I'm interested in seeing if that flaw was fixed in the v3 or even the v4. (The bell isn't that loud irl use either)

Interesting to know. I’ve had line over a year, but not yet 2 yrs. No issues so far and I switch it back an forth between bikes a lot. I pretty much use it on every ride, gravel or mtb. Will report back if it starts to fail. As long as I’m not bombing at an unreasonable speed, people hear me coming and are usually appreciative of the advanced notice.

I’ve hard mine for +3 years so I must have had one of the first models. It’s perfect for solo mtb rides in the dark (early morning/ night) and its still working well. So far, no bears or cougars and only deer. (Vancouver Island has more cougars per arc/ha than anywhere in North America so they are a hazard). I definitely recommend this product.

Viewers can observe your expertise as a professor... you are a pro at teasing out information on a bell. Does the incessant ringing get to you over time? I like to wear one wireless earbud and listen to books on tape or podcasts during my long mountain bike rides.

It always rings when switched on, but you can switch it off, which pulls the striker taught so it stops ringing when you don’t want to hear it

I used to run it on my stock hover bars. Fine as long as you don’t have a ton of other bar accessories

@@TheBikeSauce great! I have the Future stem accessory mount with the hover bars so both my computer and headlight are out front and out of the way. Should be plenty of room for this. Also thanks for responding - as a fellow Diverge Sport Carbon owner (same colorway, even) your channel has been an essential resource for me. Great videos - keep it up!

Great bell, doesn't work if you have a handle bar bag on your gravel bike. The bag muffles it.

Why did you show video examples of riding the bike on a bumpy trail with halfway open and flicking the bars to activate the bell, but talk over the footage so we couldn't hear the bell ring. In fact your review of a cycle bell didn't include cycling and a bell operating.
