If I had a dollar for every time I bought a plugin just to find a js or reaper plugin that does what I wanted... Well let's just say I could buy another Reaper license lmao.
Same here man. I used to think that if a plugin didn't have a beautiful interface then it was a shitty plugin. How dumb I feel for having that mindset. Now,the js plugins are my go to.
I thought that the JS: Master Limiter was the only Reaper limiter. Never knew about ReaLimit, and finiding out that it even has a nice visual analyzer makes me feel dumb for using the other limiters i've been using.
The "Link" feature is very handy for chopping wild transients on acoustic guitar without changing the volume of the track (like most other limiters do).
There's also a requirement for tracks to be -1dB true peak limited. It's a good practice anyway because when you encode it in AAC or MP3 it will be louder than -1dB in peaks bcs of the way lossy encoding works.
I just started exploring Reaper as an alternative to Audition for editing a podcast that I co-host. I'm not an experienced audio engineer, so at first Reaper seemed OVERWHELMING. But your videos are so useful and well-structured, I'm just two days in and I'm starting to feel like I can do this! THANK YOU!
About time the boys finally made their own limiter. I would really expect this thing to be very competitive. I like transparent limiters. What are you thinking about the sound?
Love how these recent videos look like Kenny is coming from heaven or something it’s all so white at the beginning lol Aside from the weird colouring of the opening, nice video and keep up the good work! :)
Thank you once again! I would suggest that all videos have subtitles, that is very useful for those whose mother tongue is not English. It was not possible to activate the subtitles on this video.
Look at Kenny man... so sensational. I'm still waiting for the tutorial about customization when the different color lights come in the signal flow of recorded track.
I have to say, I'm mildly disappointed that the "true peak" toggle was just for metering and not for actual true peak limiting. This thing could've easily replaced my go-to limiter if it did
Okay... either I’ve been living in Patricks’ house (a rock) for 4 years or this is a new plug-in... I LIKE IT ! Thank you, KG. Seems great. Diggin the features. PS: cool song
Very useful thanks. I would say that when recording I never have any plugins on the Master track, it can colour what you are hearing, I suggest just turning them on for the final mix. A personal preference, not for everyone.
@@mjklein I'm curious about your statement if you would share your thoughts on it, I only set mine to -0.3 for rendering a 320kbps MP3 and when I import the file back into a new project it's still at -0.3 on playback. I have heard that reduced sample rates in MP3 cause a higher chance of overs and would set the limiter lower, but I personally never use those lower rates. I will set it for -0.5 when out putting a wav for SoundCloud though.
I often don't have any of these NEW? plugins in my Reaper. Do I need to reload or purchase them? Or are the names different in different countries? Pretty much everytime I watch one of his videos I don't have the JS plugin he shows.
Hi Kenny ! I just had one small question.... What would happen if I set the release to Inf dB/sec ??? And as usual, this too is an awesome video !!!!! ❤️
Does this have to be used on the master or can I use it for a drum track that has too much loudness variation because the drummer wanted to be “dynamic”?
@@REAPERMania okay are able to remove them after you record them or they are printed on the track and which one's do you use if I may ask ohhhhh yeah I left you a picture of my recording studio on your messenger inbox
Dear Kenny! This video helped me a lot, thank you for this. One question just rose in me: I checked with Loudness meter a professional mixed and mastered record in Reaper with this method, and I found a lot of clips at the Peak column during the song (and +0.5 peak sometimes!). Is it a mistake (we speak of a famous band here and the record is from 2013), or is it left intentionally during the mastering process? I'm uncertain it is right or wrong?
Is there any way to get ReaLimit as a standalone plugin itself without getting reaper, to be used like the VST Plugins package I really like what it offers
Some good stuff here; I learned some more about limiting! I am searching for the lowest latency limiters to use for streaming. I am sending audio via reaRoute to OBS which is receiving through an ASIO input. I realized it was all the limiters on my various drum inputs causing latency around 40ms, but it would vary causing a huge headache. Sorry if this is already answered! Maybe I should just learn to use reaComp as a limiter?
P.S. I tried to move from WIndows to Linux. Reaper, windows VSTs works flowlessly, except UAD plugins :) The audio interface does not even require the (additional) installation of drivers :)
I'm a little confused regarding the difference between the threshold and the brickwall ceiling. If the limiter starts working at the threshold, then how is it different from the ceiling, which determines the actual peaks? Thanks a lot in advance!
It just decides at what level the output will be. So think of the ceiling as just turning down the mix at the end (no more or less limiting) to hit a certain level.
Kenny, love your tutorials, but.. 1) limiter is not compressor. Compressor have "attack" parametr. Limiter dont have any, it is supposed to work instantly. If not - it is compressor 2) wouldnt agree that it not make sense to go above -14 for Spotify. Just check loudness of top 10 Spotify songs in any country. Mostly it is around - 10 - 8 lufs. Percived loudness still can be louder if just trimmed by few db, even with smaller TP Greetings from Poland :)
That might not happen ever unfortunately. Reaper's principle is always K.I.S.S. on everything they do. How do you suppose they made the installer below 20MB? Understandable that some people are repelled by Reaper's UI lackluster. I'm glad i got past that silly excuse.
