Your energy is literally a breath of fresh air in the RU-vid space. Pleaseeee do more of these BTS/vlog type videos. I just found your channel and can’t wait to see more
I like you and your style Caroline! My 2 cents... I wanted very much for you to slide the alarm clock over by the candles. The flooffy flower chair is probably long gone, but I could picture it as your bedroom chair and the flower pillow on your bed. I'll have to check in again to see how things have progress. Thanks for taking us around for the tour :)
Congratulations on the super fab and charming apartment! I felt so validated when you were obsessing over the mantel arrangement…….me to the tee! I obsess and fidget with styling my space to the point of madness but once I’ve got it just right…. it’s glorious! As I go through my space throughout my day, I’ll notice a spot I love and randomly smile and gush. Weird maybe? Life giving? Oh yeah! I’m looking forward to seeing how you layer and transform every nook and cranny. Your Facebook marketplace finds are epic. The marble pedestal…♥️♥️♥️♥️
You and I share the exact same style. (Im a vintage junkie.) So when I saw that first apartment I immediately connected with it. And when I saw the other places you toured, I was immediately turned off by them for the same reasons you were turned off. Sometimes you just gotta follow your heart. Your home is your sanctuary and it needs feel 100% comfortable. So Im glad you made the right choice. I love it!
So the first video I watched of yours was the organization one and oh have I been on a journey bingeing your content since then. And I have been laughing the whole time but let me tell you nothing made me laugh more than the bit with the old guy drawing/painting. I don't know why! I laughed until I cried. So, thank you for the laughs, the honesty and bluntness, the inspiration, ideas and the overall good time you allow us to have with your videos!
Hi Caroline! I love learning more about design and city living from you. Would it be possible for you to do a Q & A talking more about yourself and your design experience?
The plant in your living room fireplace is a calathea lancifolia or “rattlesnake calathea“. They like humidity and bright indirect light. Direct light will burn the leaves.
1. Where are you mantel candlesticks from? 2. I love your tall marble night stand. Gorgeous 3. I love the idea of a sweater display over your fireplace. It would bring in so much texture. 4. Raise your bed so you can place your bedding. 5. The linen closet you found is stunning and goes so well with your apartment. 6. I wish the shelves in your bathroom were dark wood, not glass. You have such pretty wood throughout your place with you table, chairs, linen cabinet. I think dark wood shelves would go a long way to helping your bathroom be styled. The dark wood would compliment the beige, where currently all the silver and glass fights the beige (warm vs cool tones). And you should add a third shelf placed at the same height as the bottom of the medicine cabinet.
it's a prayer plant. They generally like their soil to be moist. It looks like you have it in the right lighting situation. I put "glass frosting" on my bathroom window, it comes in lots of fun varieties.
Are you having fun decorating your home? Just don't get why people place vases of flowers on top of books. Don't you worry about the books getting wet? Also seems overplayed just like draping strings of wooden beads all over. Do love your new home. Super wooden table and that you are leaving it in its worn appearance is a a nice thought. Gives charm, comfort and personality. And what a great window. The chairs go great with it too. Having a chair in bedroom is nice. Easier to sit on than the bed when putting shoes and boots on. Your home has so many great nooks and crannies. Enjoy painting them and filling your rooms with family photos, paintings and all that will make it feel like home.
Your channel just popped up on my feed! I’m so glad it did! You have the best personality! The apartment is so beautiful and welcoming! Can’t wait to see everything you do with it!
Hi, Caroline. I just recently found your channel and I already love it! I haven't watched all your videos yet, but I'm intrigued by your bay window treatment. Do you have a link specifically for how you did the curtains? I have a similar bay in my kitchen nook and would like some guidance. I love the practicality of your content (about how your design HAS TO work for your lifestyle, etc.) and also how you sprinkle the interior design tips/rules in between your lovely ramble. Keep up the good work!
I LOVE! I am seriously so excited to see everything you do. I never knew i could love traditional so much until I saw your videos. I love how you mix such fun design with vintage and don't shy away from colors. Sending love from Canada ❤️❤️❤️
I recently purchased a plain white column stand, looks similar to your marble one which looks amazing with the cream marble colouring ( so in love with it) I am going to change mine by painting a faux cream marble finish. Thank you for your inspiration. Thoroughly enjoyed your video.SUBSCRIBED. 🥰
I just discovered your channel. So far I like it! That flowery chair is crewel embroidery. If you like the shape get a slip cover made or get it recovered. Or just get a new one. Ha. Love your ideas.
As someone who also lives in a rowhouse-floor-apartment in DC, I'd love a video about how to DIY/do projects when you have limited interior space and absoutely NO outdoor space. That's a big question mark to me!
If a rail door is hard to open and close it might just be one loose screw... screwing with you. Anyways, puns aside, check all the places that are mecanically attached and a screwdriver might make your door an 11/10
Be careful with makeup products in the bathroom! I read once that makeup is more susceptible to mold in the bathroom being that it’s a humid environment 😬 I switched all my makeup/brushes to a vanity setup on top of my dresser once I found that out!
I just found your channel Loving your sense of humor and design. I live in CA in suburbs so I’m not city savvy. When you buy a large item on FB Marketplace how do you get it to your apartment?
They’re American eagle! Although since painting in them I obviously ruined them and have been trying to buy a new pair but AE isn’t carrying those exact ones any more. But I think their other sweatpants are similar!
How do you feel about painting wood window and door trims with the same white as the wall but perhaps with a different finish? We are wondering this at our own place!
I like it! I probably won’t be doing it here just bc it’s soooooo much work and the ceilings are so high, it was extremely hard to get it all done. And it’s not killing me as is lol. But if it were the home I owned, yes would totally go for that!
"Yes, this is aesthetically pleasing nearly as much as it's a cry for help." Never heard pantry storage described that way, but I love it. There are hidden gems like this in all Caroline's videos. Her use of language is so entertaining.
When the RU-vid algorithm actually gets it right! Love your personality. Looking forward to any lifestyle, updates, and vlog content you’re willing to share!!
YEP! This is one of the few it’s gotten right for me-they give me some of the weirdest freaking videos and I’m out here paying premium!! Hahaha but LOVE THIS CHANNEL. Just discovered and binging
I'm not sure how we decided to put a chair in our kitchen when we moved in, but now it's so important to me - we call it the sous chef's chair because our cat will come hang out on it whenever someone's cooking - and it's cute, and it doubles as a step ladder!
23:08 It's a Calathea Lancifolia, also known as the rattlesnake plant. The pot is from Bergs which is a Danish brand that designs Italian terracotta pots, that are handmade in Tuscany. I know because I have five of their pots myself! I imagine the Italian design is why your sister gave it to you, to remind you of Parma.
I randomly found your channel while trying to fill time feeding my baby during the day. I am obsessed. You are so talented and bring so much fun to interior design! I’d love to see a video about choosing accessories in your room, yours are always spot on. Or just videos about your life…or anything really.
Thank you for your honesty. Thank you for your bravery in being imperfect. It’s really helpful to see other people working to make their space a home, and your honest is refreshing and encouraging for my own imperfection.
ahh i didnt think of this! people keep suggesting it and i WISHHH i could - but it literally wont fit in the bedroom. i wouldnt be able to walk around the bed :( idk should i push teh bed agains the wall to make room???
@@Caroline_Winkler if you put the head of the bed on the other wall to the left you could push it closer to the wall without being all the way flush which would make it feel bigger
Two things: 1) YES to the chair in the kitchen. So many kitchens are too tiny to do "eat in" or "breakfast bar" areas, but a chair is great for friends, and, well, me. I do like to cook and bake, and sometimes I just want to sit in a chair in my kitchen and read. 2) I get great Rachel Green vibes from you... like, "Rachel Green but make her modern and relatable and unscripted and much more grounded." I appreciate what you're putting out.
Ugh, I just love your channel so much!! Your personality is perfect and your story telling is great. I used to live in DC and watching your videos brings me so much joy!
LOVE this and it's such a smart use of the bay window area for a dining space. It makes the space feel complete to have an actual dining space. And as a DCer, love seeing more spaces/YTers in our city!
thank you! yeah i think its kind of unconventional to have the table there and i do wish i could have an armchair there at times, but it just feels right to have a separate dining area!
I love your apt. such a Victorian vibe, old world charm. You made the right choice. Anybody can live in a cold box, you chose a warm lived in environment that screams YOU, and I don't even know you. Well done. Looking forward to the next installment of updates you put you signature too. Happy New Year!!!
I can't wait to see what you are going to do with this apartment because you seem to approach it the right way by saying " it takes time... the layering... the pantry that is a cry for help" etc. I'll be watching.
This is great- I love how thoughtful you have been with everything, that dining table is AMAZING. Would love a “exploring the neighborhood” type thing, if you’re taking suggestions- I feel like that’s always my favorite part of moving. I really feel so much more settled once I’ve found my ~places~
Loving the vlogs. So you're a front-end web dev? After the apartment series, they're so many topics you could vlog about. e.g. getting started in tech (did you go to a bootcamp?), working in tech, day in the life and just random adventures in DC - liked and subscribed!
Thanks Michael! I’m so glad you liked it - and yes I am! I would definitely be interested in talking more about tech, that’s a great idea! Lmk what would sound interesting to get into, in your opinion!
You're so fun to watch, your apartment is beautiful now but I can't wait to see it evolve. The plant your sister bought you is a Calathea Lacifolia or Rattlesnake Calathea. They like lower light and higher humidity but this calathea is one of the easier ones to keep happy.
Thanks for explaining the grouping of threes. I’ve been staring at the mantle in my new home wondering why it looked trash. I paused the video to reattange my stuff in groups of three and it already looks better!
Love your linen cabinet. Do a pretty peel and stick wallpaper for your bathroom, its renter friendly! Ooh, definitely paint the alcove a dramatic color!! Can't wait to see how your new place evolves. Also your chairs make a nice counterpoint to the more masculine chunky table.
Yes to the chair in the bedroom!!! I remember my Great Grandmother telling me that chairs in the bedroom in her day were for robing or disrobing and putting those clothes on it like a dressing chair, so if its true then you're using the chair in its meant for manner. Another great video!PS are those Pottery Barn Slippers?!
I was randomly suggested your apartment hunting video this week and loved it. I just bought a condo in Adams Morgan after a breakup as well and am having to figure out how to decorate it as well. Loving going back and watching all your old videos for inspiration!
I just moved and am in the middle of that not-quite-settled-in feeling, so this is a balm to watch and relate to. It's good to be reminded that it doesn't have to be perfect right away.
Your space has so much personality! Very refreshing to see decor that's not white and beige and neutral toned and drab. I feel like so much interior design content I come across is all about what's currently trendy which is the absence of all color and joy. 😬 Your place is spectacular so far, can't wait to see more! I would have so much fun with that bathroom. Some wallpaper and adhesive flooring maybe? So much potential! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
I just found your channel and binged every single episode and it motivated me to clean and reorganize my apartment. I love your content especially the guest bedroom makeover at your parents - *NEED* part 2. You are so talented and relatbale. love love love. Telling all my friends about your channel.
PS: Have you heard of the term "Grand Millenial" I feel like that is very much your vibe and I'm here for it! So nice not to see everything beige and white and from a box store.
MARIA! How dare u hype me so sweetly! 🥺❤️ I know I know I need the part 2 for my moms place! We’re stilllll waiting on pieces to be delivered. It’s frustrating 🥴 I totally relate to grand Millenial, spot on! Makes me so happy that you’re enjoying the channel. If u have opinions of what you’d like to see more of, I would loveeeee to hear
@@Caroline_Winkler Yeah keep it up your vids are so fun. I love the category of updates you can make to a standard rental - though not sure how motivated i'd be to paint and change back hardware before leaving. But if do more ideas like removeable wallpaper i'd be down to experiment. Styling hacks for each season could be fun - even like what if you offered to virtually help a subscirber redo a small room over zoom? that would be fun / cant tell you how many times ive wanted your input on what to do w my bedroom decor to just make it that extra notch put together. Anyhow ill stop talking now! Bascially anything that can teach us interior design and how to implement it ourselves.
Hey! Great apartment! I’m an aspiring designer about to finish high school! I had an idea for your kitchen, I’ve seen some amazing photos of people who put a lamp on their countertop, it makes a basic kitchen look and feel so cozy and not as utilitarian! 😀
“yes this is aesthetically pleasing, nearly as much as it is a cry for help” im gonna start commenting this on those annoying tiktok organizing videos lol also love your taste in interiors 💕
ahh kathy! a woman after my own heart, the chair is so special right??? i wish i could keep it but i dont think it fits in teh bedroom cuz its so tiny 😭
Put your cream, cozy throw over most of your floral chair for now,it may not clash as much as you think.( it looks like a classic Waverly fabric stitched in crewel work)
I felt personally attacked when you called out the aesthetically pleasing pantries 🤣🤣 love the space so far! And I think the wall color is perfect with your decor, it’s the trim color I’d change! Can’t wait to see what you do over time 🕰 🏠
Honestly so many amazing pieces here; the marble pedestal, the amber glass, the flower bowl with the gold rim etc. The place already look super cute. How old is your building/apartment?
oo all some of my favorites! and all thrifted or found! the bowl was given by an older german relative who passed this year. such a beautiful and meaningful piece, im glad that you noticed it
Hi, just found your chanel (seems like many others recently did too, congrats!). I love all the interior design you‘re doing, keep on going with this! You‘re totally hiting my taste and you have such a fun personality. If I had met you in real life I‘d love to be your friend. Sooo if ever in Munich, Germany let me know 😁
Such a great tour. And I love your content so, so much. Just one thing: The founder of Thonet was not french (I thought that myself for many years), but german. So it's not like "Thonéééé" but "Thonetttt". A lot of people, even in the interior design world, a getting this wrong. 😊 But that's just me, nerding around.
