Hello and welcome back to another exciting instalment of "Adventure Woods" - the Planet Coaster series in which I build a theme park called "Adventure Woods"! Today is going to be epic, we build a massive B&M Flying Coaster through the forest, themed around a medievel castle and some pesky dragons. I really like how it came out, and I hope you do, too!

just a little tip for b&m flying (and not flying) coasters. generally, b&m dont like steep. their 0g rolls in particular are often very flat. id say some of the elements felt a little steep for what b&m would do, but i love the aesthetic!

Yes, Trip Advisor is a international phenomenon, or something. Aka, yes, people use Trip Advisor in the US. Also, according to the “great” source Wikipedia, there are 9 Kmarts left with only three in the continental US, but I seem to have found Australia and NZ still have Kmarts. I believe in the same vain how Toys R Us went out in the US but the Canadian ones were owned by a different company.

I believe the sand is going in the rails, if a park wants sound proofing from the get go the track can be manufactured with sand in the rails, but if its desired post install they have to fill the spine because they cant open up the rails after install. Much more efficient to do it the rail way, much less sand required so alot lighter and dampens vibrations just as well as filling the spine does.

Dang, next park you definitely need to export your fast forwarded video and do the commentary over that and it probably won't be so laggy. And then to avoid double compression you can do it all in the same project file and export the original with the audio :) I know this series is probably mostly if not all filmed but hopefully this can help in the future!

I remembered the Bude tunnel slightly before you mentioned it. I don't remember why I knew about the Bude tunnel, as an American, but I must have seen it at some point in some RU-vid video, but it's one of those bits of trivia that my mind has just decided to file away under "critical information" instead of "useless trivia I can just forget." Didn't know Bude was in Cornwall specifically, but I did know about it.

Hey Matt, I love your Planet Coaster videos I enjoy watching them a lot. But today i have to coment because the coaster you built with its theme and colours reminds me a lot of Dragon Khan a coaster built in Port Aventura Park, Spain, in 1995. Also a very old coaster as you see. It is also a B&M coaster and also themed arround dragons. The difference are that this one is sitted coaster and that it is based arround China insted of medieval times. A fun fact regarding this coaster is that, as you mention, the roaring of this type of coaster is very significant so a common legend arround here says that they decided to themed it about a fierce dragon because of the agresive and dragon roar like sound that produced, audible almost arround the entire park. I don't know if this legend is true but it is so cool me inner child wants it to be true. What i can tell you is that your heart rating intensifies even before mounting on it, just by standing in line and hearing the sound of the coaster roaring like hell.

True story, the technology to make the large scale formed perspex like that tunnel you mentioned came from experimental physics. There was a large detector that needed a transparent volume to hold pure fluid and they worked with the perspex manufacturers to develop the technology. I think it was the Kamiokande detector, but I don't recall for sure.

Definitely going to add Bude tunnel on my bucket list. Thanks Matt for introducing such a magnificent place! + That gantry support looks just fine - it's gonna be enough to support workers and their tools, with a few hundred percent of margin. One thing I want to point out is, you have horizontal support beams under the gantry floor, and having one longitudinal beam along the center, and having that connected to main columns with diagonal beams (like between horizontal beams and the columns) should make it even more realistic! In its current state, there doesn't seem to be enough parts that prevent the support from 'falling over'. Also note that I'm just a student learning engineering rn - I'm no professional, I might be wrong. Anyone correct me if so!

Love a good upbeat "WEDNESDAY" ramble! Great to listen to your positive commentary of randomness, I'm from Britain and had no idea that Sainsbury's tunnel existed, thank you for opening my eyes! On the subject of eyes, I had a thought and I know Matt is the person to ask - Does the Iris in your eye work the same as a camera lens aperture in respect to - When my human iris closes down, does my depth perception get wider? Just like a Camera lens' Depth of field widens when you close the aperture? I could Google it, but I just had a random thought as I was writing.
@LMixir
@LMixir Год назад
While I can't answer in regards to what happens when your iris narrows, you'll need Matt (or someone else who knows what they're on about when it comes to eyes) to answer that one, I can answer when it comes to actual depth perception: short answer - no, long answer: Your depth perception comes from your brain comparing the images from your eyes, and working out the difference. Essentially, your left eye will see whatever you are looking at appearing slightly off to the right, while your right eye sees it slightly off to the left. Your brain combines them and goes "it is probably right in the middle" it also cleverly looks at just * how * much off to each side it is, and works out how far away it is. In much the same way that when you are driving or walking things closer to you appear to be moving faster than those further away, your eyes see things closer to you as much more different (compared to each other) than things further away. A tree in the foreground appears to be moving much faster than a hill in the background because it is closer, and you can think of your eyes as two cars, one slightly behind the other, getting two different ideas of where that tree is. This is because, much like those two cars, your eyes are in two different places on your head. A fun little experiment you can try is to place something down, walk a step or two away (ideally with your back turned to the thing you placed down), close one of your eyes, and turn around to look at it. Stretch your arm out towards it, and you can tell that it is further away if your hand covers it up, but you can't tell if it is simply a miniature version of whatever it is and just out of reach, or a normal-sized one further away (or, for that matter, some kind of giant thing that is * very * far off). If, however you open your other eye, you'll almost immediately figure out that it is well out of your reach, as your brain begins comparing the two images. So, in short, what matters to your depth perception is how good your brain is at "seeing" tiny differences between the images from your eyes, and how far apart your eyes are. (this is why hammerhead sharks look the way they do: to accurately determine the distance to prey at very long ranges.)

@@LMixir fantastic stuff, I hadn't considered that in terms of 'depth perception' I was more thinking 'per eye' depth of field, but a really confusing experiment to play with depth perception. I suppose that's a similar principle to the way 3D cameras trick the brain

Did you ever correct the alignment on one of the earlier coaster's transfer tracks? (I don't remember which one exactly - maybe the wooden one?)
