one of the most common problems with the DX-300 is the preselector getting stuck. The radio can't be tuned properly with out the preselector In working order . here is a vid showing how I fixed mine
What a simple and straight forward video! Very good! My DX-300 which I bought today has/had this exact issue among others. Tackled it tonight and now the pre-selector turns easily. Thanks very much. I'd also suggest that if the brass shaft is really stubborn it can be pressed out. I used my drill press ( not running) as a press and set the gear on a 1/4" drive, 1/4" hex socket. Drive end of the socket away from the gear. The socket is held by the presses vise. Chuck a small drill bit into the drill, flutes in the chuck, I used a 9/64 inch bit, and press the shaft out into the socket. The socket supports the gear yet lets you press the shaft out. No need to try grabbing the shaft with pliers, etc. Go slow. Don't break the gear.
This video is just what I needed for my DX-300, so many thanks! I used WD-40 on a q-tip to clean, and light machine oil to lube, because that's what I had. Was prepared to use steel wool but found I didn't need it. Two points for others: (1) use card stock or similar to help keep the PCB from being damaged as you move the preselector mechanism around, and (2) make sure you re-assemble so that the tuning scroll is in the right place relative to the capacitor (I recommend the capacitor fully closed for protection, and the scroll at the low frequency end). I missed that part, and ended up removing the gear between the two scroll gears to get things realigned with minimum effort (gotta also make sure the scroll is tight and not loose when reinstalling that gear!).
sorry bro,,,,,could be in the display it self or a chip.I would replace the display first and if that doesn't do it I would junk it before I would try to change out anything more and just buy another unit on eBay
