in this video I talk about realistic graphic mods, like the ones made for Minecraft, GTA V, and Fallout 4. I spent $5 on a minecraft resource pack for a bit.

I'm surprised this didn't MELT my RTX 3090 Graphics card capable of outputting Minecraft Shaders with a 1024x, 2048x, and 4096x resolution texture pack all at 4k. I also have a AMD Ryzen 9 5950x CPU for this Minecraft, GTA V, and Fallout 4 graphics video. Some of the settings I talk about in this video are EXTREME. You could definitely say the combo of the Seus PTGI Ray Tracing Shaders and the Realistic Textures 1024x pack were really Pushing Minecraft to Its Limits
When it comes to playing games on a computer, one of the things most brought up is that you can mod your game to be whatever you want. And honestly I can understand why, if minecraft had an hour counter I’d probably have over 6000 hours put into it collectively, I currently have 500 in GTA V, and the last I played fallout 4 I didn’t exactly, uh, pay for it, but if I had to estimate I put about 30 hours into it before I got bored. The common denominator here is that all of these games are extremely customizable, you look up Minecraft mods, GTA V mods, or Fallout 4 mods, and you can find countless lists on websites dedicated to hosting them.
So if you’re a bit burnt out with a game, one of the easiest things you can do to add something to your experience to make it feel “fresh” again is installing a mod that “enhances” the graphics. These mods can cover a vast amount of possibilities, from something as simple as upscaling the textures, to something as in depth as upheaving the entire lighting engine to add things never thought possible for the game.
Originally I was going to transition to talking about minecraft here first, because you’d think adding insane to it would be impossible, but I want to talk about Fallout 4 first and it’s my channel anyway. See the whole idea with the fallout series is that it’s meant to look like, it’s a world irradiated from the fallout of nuclear bombs detonated all across the earth, I wouldn’t imagine it would look pretty. My personal issue with fallout 4’s style is that, well, it looks like. Again I completely understand why it looks like this, I’m just not a fan. Adding a bit of green, improving the lighting, honestly this looks pretty good, in the way that my eyes actually enjoy looking at what’s on screen, instead, of you know, this.
And I feel like there is an argument to be made here about distorting the message set up by the developers of the game. You’re supposed to feel bad looking at the terrain of fallout, it’s a depressing wasteland caused by humanity’s greed and unwillingness to cooperate with each other. At the same time, this isn’t actually a real issue, whoever is dedicated enough to take the time out of their day needed to set up fallout 4 to be modded already understands the message portrayed in the game. They get it, they’ve obviously played the game already, there’s no harm done in running around a wasteland that isn’t an eyesore instead.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, GTA V is a game that’s meant to parody the extreme parts of american society, and as far as I know the the artstyle of the game has nothing to do with any sort of message, not that it even matters anyway. I’m sick of staring at these models, and these same streets, and the same cars. I swear I know my way around Los Santos better than I do my own town. Like I can reasonably navigate to the airport from any place on the map. It’s been 8 years since this game came out, if people want to add some insane texture reshade rtx whatever it’s called pack to the game, why should I care. Honestly most of these seem pretty sick, my biggest issue is that most of these think streets that are wet as look really good. Like it’s unreasonably wet and shiny all of the time.
The trade off here, is that I get to drive around Los Santos in an actual lamborghini that has raytraced shadows and reflections. I can stare at roads that have 4k textures and look at a skybox that, uhh, looks like a sky idk man. I feel completely out of my depth installing these mods. I’ve done it once, but it was kinda broke and didn’t work correctly, and my caveman brain could never figure out why. Honestly I assume it was just because of a lack of experience.

They don't, tank that hard, actually. In the case of Skyrim there really is a pretty smooth transition from "vanilla" to "PC exploding", you just need to know what your machine can handle and what really causes the drops. Nearly everyone can grab *some* higher resolution textures, a weather mod if you want that, DynDoLOD most importantly to fix Skyrim's incredibly ugly pop-in problems (you can even make distant trees 3D rather than 2d sprites, and it isn't even *that* hard on your PC), literally everyone can install Static Mesh Improvement mod to make small objects have less than, like, two polygons, everyone can use Improved Closefaced Helmets so eyeholes are actually eyeholes and not just black textures. Hell, Cathedral Landscapes is a grass mod that seriously doesn't tank performance at all and includes land textures so everything still matches up and looks professional, it's great. You've got three or four options for fixing the lighting ranging from more / re-positioned light sources to just messing with in-engine light values so dungeons aren't awkwardly bright, and the ones that really have a performance hit are mods like ELFX. The only real performance killers at this point are general foliage mods (but again not always, depends on how they're going about it) and obviously ENBs which are more of a "use it if you have the overhead" thing.

I like """graphic enhancement""" mods, not neccesarily """realistic mods""" I think there's a difference between the two. Like adding extra details, visual effects, higher resolution textures, whatever, but only if it keeps within the boundaries of a game's art style and image. Shader packs are a good example, sure it may look a lot different, but it's still minecraft in its pixely, blocky form, just with pretty lighting. I like it. Most modded youtube videos I see are over the top, pc breaking, high-maintenance-required pedestals that can't be reached by the average pc user. "500+ mods", "300+mods", all basically flexing how beautiful their game is and how experienced they are at mods... But this guy seems very down to earth. Just do to the fact that he couldn't download a visual enhancement mod (just like I have failed to do in the past) And again, love for mods that rivals mine, Makes him seem somewhat relatable and makes me want to watch him more.

Realistic shading in Minecraft is extremely off putting to me
@willmungas8964
@willmungas8964 2 года назад
The only modifications I like to make to Minecraft preserve the base textures. I add shaders so it looks pretty, but I try to set the water to stay vanilla like and I don’t really go overboard with all the realistic lighting features, I just want directional shadows, emissive glowing textures and vibrant lights, plus some reflective surfaces. Most recently I’ve used complementary shaders with iris/sodium, which is super easy to set up, and comes with some built in PBR materials settings so that I don’t need to download other packs to play with reflective metals and slightly bumpier surfaces. I also use a feature that slightly roughs up the texture of blocks with basically some noise based on the texture itself, but it’s very subtle and I like it. I do all this so I can get “Minecraft, but with prettier lighting” in a way I can enjoy playing in survival, not “Minecraft, but every graphics feature ever imagined has been pumped into it and it’s using hyper-realistic lighting and textures”, because frankly, that’s ugly. I just want some bumpier stone and grass, shiny metals and water, and some shadows. Something that preserves the visual style of Minecraft, something that could be Minecraft vanilla if mojang upgraded the lighting a tiny bit. Nothing further. (The only real gameplay changing option I like is glowing ores, but I feel like that should be a vanilla feature for a few reasons. 1. It doesn’t include coal, and coal is still super essential for torches lighting up the deeper caves; 2. It makes the caves much prettier, with spots of metal in the distance; 3. It gives players a bit more of a goal to focus on when they see a massive cave and prevents them from missing valuable deposits because of a lack or torches or direction while exploring. It shifts cave exploration into being a little more purposeful and driven, kind of like terraria. Instead of “wander aimlessly until you find what you’re looking for” it turns into “check if this area has what you’re looking for and if it does figure out how to get to it”. But that’s the only shader feature that I like that really changes gameplay outside of the vanilla experience.) Edit: I want to add I don’t have a super high-end PC, it’s nice but not crazy, and this all runs fine with sodium/iris

fallout 4 shouldnt hide under the excuse of "it's supposed to look ugly". you can make a grungy environment still visually pleasing, tons and tons of games have done it perfectly well before. take portal 2 for an example, the environments are covered in rubble, plant life, and completely destroyed machinery after thousands of years of neglect. but even then the game looks beautiful. dark souls takes place in a dying world full of despair and tragedy, but the environments still have a visually pleasing style to them

Tip for running shaders faster: - Make sure minecraft is using the right graphics card! If it’s using the intergrated one, it’s never gonna look good. You can check this at the bottom of your shaders menu, it should list the card you’re using. - Optimise your computer: defragment RAM, clean up your storage, make sure it’s not clogged up. - Fiddle around with the shader settings, you can change options that don’t make a big cosmetic difference but boost your frame rate immensely! - Background programs! Remove them! Check your startup programs and cull the ones you don’t need!! I use these tricks a lot and I can run BSL at 140fps on an i7 laptop with a mid-teir gtx card, so they definitely work. Let me know if you have any other tips.

My favorite texture pack is UltimaCraft. It's not out to replace Minecraft's textures but it's a "vanilla enhancement" pack. When you install any or all of it's modular pieces it looks almost exactly the same. Add shaders and you get POM and normals. Use the UI pack and it's just little tweaks. It doesn't trample over the artstyle like other packs do, instead subtly building on it. And my favorite high res pack is torn between ultimacraft HR, which retains the blocky look on the textures but makes them high res. Hard to explain in words but when you see it you'll get it. And another pack that does the same thing, VanillaAccurate. Both excellent.

Since you covered Minecraft, I figure I’d showcase my own example, that being Beyond Skyrim: Bruma. If you haven’t tried it yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s a literal DLC-level mod for absolutely free, and it’s basically a proof of concept for an EVEN LARGER mod, Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil. Imagine if Fallout 4 had a DLC set entirely in New York City, only to then branch out to cover the entire state of New York. Yeah, it’s that big.

By the way, none of the gta 5 mods actually add water. The video creators just use a trainer to change the weather to rain/thunderstorm and then just change it back to clear weather.

so... you think buying a threadripper, for a game that only uses 1 core... is an intelligent purchase.

if you want a shader with vanilla looking water than grab complimentary and choose the RTX water, it looks like the default texture but reacts to light

gta has a specific art style because if it were realistic looking people would look down on it considering what you’re capable of doing within the game

I recommend Alex's Mobs for Minecraft. It adds over 50 new mobs, all which do something/have an utility, and look exactly like other vanilla creatures. Plus, it gets updated frequently.

java CAN use more than 1 core, the problem is opengl, because it binds the context to a thread, so you can only draw on the main thread which makes it impossible to draw asynchronously

For Minecraft I too don't like to change texture packs. Like yeah I can test them out, but I just keep running back to the vanilla textures. What I can get around though are vanilla tweaks. Basically tweaking some textures to look subjectively better while keeping the original "art direction" the same. It still geels like Minecraft, but with a little bit of fresh paint. Also I don't think the shader water looks off.

I like the funny water of sharders, because it does a nice contrast to the default block textures.

I really enjoy Minecraft texture packs that just add PBR and stuff to the default vanilla textures. They work really well with things like SEUS PTGI (ray tracing) or just something simple like complimentary shaders. I just adore the amazing lighting and the ability to really see the texture of well, the textures. I do hate the super high res realistic textures though.

me and my friend spoke about this about a week ago, yeah were default texture players, just looks more jarring when theres something in it thats super high res when everything else is default, and we use lots of mods usually too, so a lot of them dont have higher res models so they stand out even more

Personally I would mod games to make them look better if I can but not mid it to hell. I just want some good fucking non RTX based lighting, reflections and shadows (and textures that aren't 144p like in old games).

Somewhere out there there is a reality, a true gem in the mud. The reality where minecraft has been written in c++ and yet the mods are still as wild as they are on java. I am writing this with a tear in my eye knowing i will never expirience this wonder. And now you can be sad too.

My favorite texture pack that I would recommend looking into is called “Stay true” and it’s a pack that just slightly improves some textures(imo) and I also use like 8 others on top of that that add small things I personally just like. I use some that make weapons look better if enchanted, and just general stuff like that. Main thing for me is that optifine gives pack creators soo much freedom to do what they want. Anyway, I’d recommend checking out stay true, it really makes the game more enjoyable imo, but you do you.

Minecraft's Java problem lies not in the single-core-ness (latest Java versions do run multicore properly), but in the Java itself (JNI to be precise) - it's just not fast enough to talk to the GPU during some drawing operations (complain either to Mojang about using too many draw calls or complain to Oracle for making JNI so slow). Additionally, shaders are actually programs that run on the GPU directly, and no Minecraft, no Java could be at fault if the shader itself is slow (may complain to the shader's author).
