Honestly, for 1/16th RC tanks in particular, I would suggest building them 'clean' and just running them in a muddy garden a few times. The most natural mud effects you'll ever get will come from the actual running gear throwing actual mud around. Techniques like this are great for static tanks, though!

TestECull true, but I leave them on display in my house so it is very dirty if all natural. With this technique it looks dirty but doesn't come off

If I want to do this on my Tiger 1, what do I have to worry about if I want to give it a rusted look? And what color scheme would you recommend?

It's a very good technique, thank you for sharing. Would you recommend first painting the armor with camo finish first?

New tanker.. checked a few vids on weathering.. yours is by far the easiest, most effective, and seems to require the least amount of skill or training in model painting. Perfect for an older guy like me. Awesome vid. Thanks!

I pretty much used the same technique on my last 1/35 tank build except I didn't add paint colour or pigment. I'm building a 1/35 Ural 4320 truck at the moment and will remember to add paint and pigment when it comes time. I will be going for a well used look.

Hello John and thanks for watching it dries fairly hard but has a slight flex to it so it is not super brittle. I have never broken any off

Excellent idea! I am a newbie and botched up my first weathering job on my tank. I used powders via dry brushing and they did not come out well. I am going to remove, repaint, and then try your method here. Thanks very much for making this video. Please let me know of other tutorials you may have posted up!

I didn't have pigment so I mixed baking soda with burnt umber OIL paint Ann it also worked, but you have to mix them good cause baking soda is white

Great tip! Maybe natural earth is too big for a smaller scale such as 1/35 . You might want to try cooking soda for smaller scale

I just used modelling grass and enamel brown paint there’s definitely better methods but it works Gives a muddy texture

ScipionLaurentiend yes but it's a static model probably. Maybe move it around while it dries? The mud would dry more realistic like that too.

Id just dig a small pit and use the hole to fill it with water, mix it up a bit with a shovel, and drive the tank through it then i will let the tank dry
