Thank You for being HONEST and SENSIBLE! You are the 1st person I have ever seen to admit that Genetics is foremost. No one else has ever said that. You are correct, they are misleading!!! I do see that the others RU-vidrs are really bragging and just wanting to be seen, have others say how pretty they are when doing their hair and makeup and have their egos stroked. No one says" if your Texture is like mine this will work". If not dont waste your time. They know deep down that everyone's hair will not look like theirs from the statements you have voiced and the TRUTH is they are Conceited. May YOU have continued success in all your endeavors!!!!!

Do research... the average hair growth rate for humans is 6 inches per year. It all comes down to care no matter what, genetic isn't a big factor concerning growth maybe texture, density, shrinkage, porosity but not growth

So true on genetics. I get lots of questions about my hair. How long has it been natural? how did I get it so thick? I've always had a lot of hair. I don't have to do anything special for this to be true. I don't have to follow all of these "rules" that people swear by to have my hair.

I LOVE this video. You are so authentic and give realistic maintainable and wise advice. Your video is so concise, informative and well-delivered. I'm sure it will be not only be particularly useful to newbies who are just starting on their own natural hair journey, but all us naturals would benefit from your sound advice. When I first went natural (after being inspired by my sister), I made the mistake of comparing my own hair to my sister's natural hair. She has 4c extremely thich hair and uses a sponge to make beautiful curly coils on her short hair. I wanted the same look and tried in vain over and over to use the same method to achieve the same look. I have much thinner 4b type hair. Needless to say, it was a complete disaster for me and I often got disheartened. One day my sister simply said to me what you have echoed in this video, work with and love the hair God gave you, not the hair you see on someone else's head. Now my mantra is 'comparison is the grim reaper of joy' - and this is for all aspects of my life (not just my wonderful hair). I've been natural for around two years but have kept my hair in a fairly short style as I find it suits me better and is easier to work with and look after. It has been a trial and error journey but now I know and love my hair. Peace and love x

Thanks so much for your video and perspective! Yes, our genes indeed determine what our hair looks like. It just seems like since so many of us are "first generation" naturals and/or there are FINALLY products available that support the growth and retention of kinky textured hair, many of us don't really know what our best hair looks like so I explore RU-vid for inspiration. I've been natural for over a decade, and my hair has evolved with increased moisture. It's possible there are others who experienced this too...not an actual change from say 4c to 3b hair with certain products but just a better version of the 4c that we just didn't know how to care for. Personally, I have only recently discovered just how important it is for me to NOT manipulate my hair so much so washing (manipulating) my hair LESS has SIGNIFICANTLY helped me retain more length while moisturizing with water, as you mentioned, and aloe vera juice (inner fillet). In addition, I TOTALLY agree with you and believe if we put good stuff into our bodies (healthy foods/sufficient water), this allows our genes to be expressed in the best form...so I like to think that what you have inherited may be a little tricky to figure out, but ultimately the expression of our genes is based on nutrient availability and once maximized will result in the most significant growth and best hair ever!

BRAVA! I just found your channel and immediately subscribed after watching this video. You are BEAUTIFUL and delivered straight forward information. I do not use shampoo or any form of chemicals in My hair and keep it simple by cleansing with apple cider vinegar and water, and after, I keep moisture retention with castor oil and horsetail tea as required. My hair is growing into a thick strong healthy luscious bush and My scalp is healthy and flake free (first time in forever 🎉) My philosophy is: find what works and keep it simple.

1st of all, beautiful complexion! I just big chopped 3 weeks ago. All the way down to a fade. My hair grows quickly so I already have growth. Genetics is key. But I also think that hair growth is determined by what you put into your body so I agree with you there. If you eat a lot of junk food and drink a lot of caffeinated beverages your hair will not be healthy and grow fast. Drinking plenty of water, eating right and having a good daily vitamin regimine is key as well. I stay away from McDonalds and anything that is precooked and goes in the microwave. Fast food kills you inside and out. From your heart to the hair growing out of your scalp. I eat home cooked meals, drink water, green tea and water. I'm also old school so your tip on moisturizing is how I grew up taking care of my hair. Grease your scalps ladies. Again, genetics plays a part but it's about so much more. My moms hair is very fine and thin, and grows slowly. But my grandmother had thick 4c hair that grew quickly. So this skipped over my mom and hit me. I do think you're absolutely correct. What works for some may not work for yours. People swear by olive oil but olive oil dries my hair out. Great video.

Love how honest you where in this video, even though it's been a while I thought I share my experience with products. Before I transitioned to natural my hair was thin and pale so weak and decolorized. Even when I was not using heat or relaxing it, it looked so. I thought that's how I was only until I learnt of the natural hair movement, I will say the product that changed my thought on my hair was the Jamaica black castor oil and my hair is thick and darker than before. It's true genetics have a major role to play when it comes to our hair growth and once this fact is accepted you won't have to expect too much or too less with your hair, so not only understanding that genetics has the main role but also understanding the science of your is better and reduces the cost at which we place just for hair growth. So if you're going to invest in your hair make sure you understand every detail before you regret ever making the decision. ❤
