You should have taken 120 up to Tioga Pass and beyond. Tuolumne Meadows is some of the most beautiful high country in the park. It's just a 30 minute drive from Lee Vining. They have a restaurant, general store, burger joint, fuel, RV dump, campground (though your rig is probably too big), horses, tent cabins, showers and many, many trailheads. You can easily go above tree-line on day hikes. Utterly gorgeous lakes, meadows, streams, granite. It is VERY different from the East Side of the Sierra where you were (which is beautiful too). Paradise. AND there are even soda springs!

Condensation is caused by cold air meeting warm air . You likely have a problem with your door seals or alignment /fit of the door. Check for good seal all around. In norcold side by side doors a common problem with condensation is the seal flaps between the doors not seating properly when doors are closed. It’s an alignment issue in that case.

This area was the jump off point for many long backpack trips in the area. Most were 50 miles two weeks either on the John Muir or PCT. Very fond memories. From way above the timberline you can see forever.

Unlike some, I think the pinstriping is cool. It means you are using your rig to its fullest potential and not just living in it. Living! vs just living. And air fried skin on bone in thighs chopped up make for some great 2-layer oven baked nachos... Chips, chicken, pico, shredded cheese, more chips, more chicken, more pico, more cheese then bake until cheese melts and tips of the chips brown. Top with sour cream and guac. Yum.

It's always the first scratches that hurt the most. If you fix them, the next scratches will again be the "first" scratches. So I always try to "welcome" the first scratches as "pre-disastering" the rig. Then I can just enjoy the rig and not worry about keeping it "perfect."

As a resident of the Mono Lake area, heres a little tip: Mono, the way you're pronouncing it, is short for a disease (mononucleosis); the lake, the county, the area of Mono is named after the Mono Indian tribe, pronounced Mo-no. Not everyone knows that. Love the video, though. Glad you enjoyed this beautiful area and its history.

Not sure if you are aware. But walk through the thrushes is prime habitat for mr low belly (rattlers). There are two types in that area the Mohave Green and the Western Diamond back. Both have bad attitudes. While in the area check out some of the old gold mines. That have been preserved. Also if Tioga Pass is open take a cruise up the mountain. It's the back way into Yosemite. So, needless to say, we have accumulated some pinstripes. I have been able to buff a few of them out, but there are a couple that were just a bit to deep to buff out. You know what that say, rubbing is racing and boondocking is a contact sport😂. I’m guessing as you 2 are ambassodors for Alliance, when you make it back to the Elkhart area in the future, they can easily fix the ones that you can’t. I contacted our manufacturer and when we make it back to that area of the country, they said they could fix our pinstripes for us. Nice episode! When I still lived in so California, I skied frequently at Mammoth. In the summer months, I needed my high altitude fix and would take a long weekend once or twice a month to drive up and hike. Winter is actually the busier time because of the thousands of so California people who go up for skiing! Yes, you are correct about the real distance to Yosemite. Coming in on the Tioga Rd, you would arrive in Tuolomne Meadows where there is incredible hiking and scenery. Clouds Rest is one of the 2 greatest hikes I've done in my life. From there, it's a good 45 minute or more drive down to the valley.

Thanks for this fun video! We be in Yosemite Valley in a couple of days. We just missed you. We love "northern" 395, although we have not been south of Bristlecone Pine. Here are my favorite places: Bodie, Tioga Pass, Saddlebag Lake, Mammoth Lakes (including Devil's Postpile), and of course Bristlecone Pine. The east-west drive over Tioga Pass is stunning. The only problem with Yosemite is they only allow dogs on the Valley trails. For instance, the Pacific Crest trail crosses Yosemite at Tuolumne Meadows, but the dogs have to stay on asphalt. Tuolumne Meadows is stunning, and most people don't visit it because they tend to stay close to Yosemite Valley. Sonora Pass is also stunning but I am not sure your 5th wheel could handle it. My fantasy is to rent a convertible to make that drive. Saddlebag Lake is fantastically beautiful It is halfway up Tioga Pass to the Yosemite east entrance. I assume Saddlebag Lake allows dogs, because we saw a few on the trail. The Twenty Lakes trail takes you around the Saddlebag Lake and into a basin of alpine lakes. You can go as far as you want. It gives you the same feel of hiking in the Yosemite back country - but it allows dogs. My husband liked Mono Lake, but I did not like the smell. The view of the Sierra Escarpment is stunning from Mono Lake.

Quick response! I want to try your chicken recipe. Thank you! My wife and I spent 46 years boondocking around the West. We had jobs that allowed us to spend more than half a year living in our many RVs. When we were in our RV's, we were on vacation. We had solar panels on our roofs over 40 years ago when panels were very expensive and all we had were lead acid batteries. We could easily stay places for about two weeks at a time. 640 million acres of beautiful 'Public Lands' mostly in the West owned my me and you. BLM does not own our 'Public Lands', they just manage it for us. There are some folks who want our 'Public Lands' sold off to the highest bidder. Can you imagine? Just Google: privatization of our 'Public Lands'. My wife and I have done everything we can as voters to stop these people! We're done with RVing (age) but we want what we've had to be passed down to future generations of Americans. Best wishes! +

Can you explain for me, cause I'm confused. Your two inverters were each pulling 24+ amps yet you were only running one AC and inside you mentioned multiple times that you were only pulling less than 1200w. Why would each inverter be drawing so much? You're not on shore power, so your inverter/charging isn't actively charging (besides your MPPT). Main reason I ask is you can max pull 2400w continuous out of these inverters/each. And in my experience, condensation in the fridge means it's not properly sealed around the edges. Just my two cents.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Год назад
Yeah for sure. So the system was drawing roughly 1200 watts from the air conditioner. 1200 watts divided by the 24 volt battery system is roughly 50 amps. Because the inverters are wired and programmed in parallel they should split the load equally. Although in my case it was a bit off on 24 amps on one and 26 amps on the other. I’ll check the fridge seals more closely. 👍

You know, I'm embarrassed now. I kept thinking it would be 120v and not 24ishv coming from the battery bank. Glad it's working as expected! Do you think you could have managed with the regular MultiPlus II (the one's without 2x120v)? Those can still be hooked up in parallel which should achieve the same result. I've seen both setups and didn't understand why you'd need to use 2x of the 120v*2x models.@@IreneIronTravels

OMG! Did you donate the unfinished portions of that breakfast to a Third World country? I didn't notice doggie bags... Holy smokes, I could have eaten both of those I'm sure, but you need to be able to walk after a meal and that probably wouldn't have happened any time soon. "TIE-oga" pass. Yes! Yosemite is right there! DO IT!!! Yosemite is beautiful. 120 is beautiful. You can't go wrong unless you head into the heart of the park with the trailer; then you may be stuck in traffic forever. You dinner looks amazing! Happy Trails!!! (DO YOSEMITE! Even if you only head up to the gate.)

No. From what we've found over the years...it is pretty safe out in areas like this. The other people are there for the same recreational reasons. ( just make sure you are away from the big cites!) Also, side note.... our 2 neighbors at an RV park just got their bikes stolen. One was worth 5 grand! 😳

Does 2 A difference really make any difference. They’re both pulling through your same battery bank and really what difference does it make it one inverter is drawn to amps more than the other? I also love my air fryer, but to make my cleanup easier I use precut parchment paper. That is the same size as my air fryer.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Год назад
Not 100% sure yet. The Victron manual is very clear about the DC cables being the exact same size in parallel operation. If that’s 10% difference … it would be 20 amp difference at full power of 200amps. But still testing….. Good idea on the parchment paper👍

You may have already covered this, but how usable is your floor plan with the slides in? Am curious what the impact is of being somewhere with tight space.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Год назад
The dual opposing slides in a 5th wheel with a kitchen island like ours really forces you to open the slides when parked. It is a down side for sure when traveling or in tight spots. But on the flip side the area is huge when opened up!

Just a question, have y’all had any issues with any crime while your out camping or boondocking?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels Год назад
Not really out in the boondocking areas we have been. But defiantly in campgrounds. We just had both neighbors in an RV park get their bikes stolen. With boondocking... if you stay away from the big cites you will be fine. So most spots we go to everyone is out there just recreating and camping. If you go to an area (boondocking or campground) by a big city you might run more into petty theft and what not.
