Yeah, you always just know when that VA is voicing a character in an abridged series. Whether it's Deku in this MHAA, or the Bio Warriors in DBZA World's Strongest movie you know who's voicing him as soon as you hear it.
For you see, long ago, this pebble was forged in the fiery pits of Tartarus, by the grand blacksmith of Lucifer himself. In a time before the world began...
No you won't. SWE Kirito can play all kinds of emotions very well and SWE Deku may even sound closer to original Deku that to original Kirito, but that's abridge performance is just too good and impression too lasting. Both SAO and SAOA are just much closer to my heart.
As someone who dislikes the in-universe reactions to Bakugo’s… _Bakugo-ness,_ I absolutely *_LIVE_* for a character actually passively referring to him with anything resembling disdain. I don’t even care whether it makes me a hater; this is nice!
"Was looking at a really cool bird" **cuts to Tokoyami** She has good taste and opinions when it comes to birds. She'd get along great with Android #16 and Bastion.
For all you fucking nerds out there: Izuku (出久) can also be read as Deku in Japanese (more specifically it's the "出" (Izu), since "久" was already reading as "ku"), which sounds the same as "木偶" (Deku) which in turn means "useless person".
Going to be honest I essentially got onto mha via cultural osmosis and for 7 years the who conundrum of that naming scheme confused the heck out of me until I saw this short and comment
So "basically" it's just some dumb Japanese pun where instead of it sounding like a word, it's just read as something similar... Somehow knowing this made it a lot less funny. I prefer to just interpret it as, he's a jerk so he calls him useless much like Vegeta calls Goku Kakarot.
@@W0lfbaneShikaisc00lVegeta calls Goku Kakorot because that's Goku's Saiyan birth name. It's actually the complete reverse of an insult. In fact, Vegeta legitimately believes Goku should be calling himself that instead because of his heritage. That's also the in-universe reason as to why Vegito uses the "to" kana from Kakarot as spelled in Japanese: Vegito has Vegeta's saiyan pride. It's not even close to the same thing.
@@mattwo7 Yeah, I Agree what @W0lfbaneShikaisc00l misses is that with "Deku" its not a pun, a pun is like when Barbara married Mal Dwyer... and became "Barbed wire" and actual story from my home town, you might think it was a-fence-ive but it was all just fun (yes another pun... they don't work so well in text though). "Deku" is a malicious and deliberate... I guess misreading isn't technically correct, but its reading the alternate meaning of the characters to form an insult, and as its actually the spelling of his name, branding him with it. Its not supposed to be funny, its just straight bullying. You summed up Goku and Vegeta pretty well and I need to re-watch DBZ with the subs as I only saw the Dub as a kid... And we know how well THAT translates... so I don't want to speculate on the intricacies of that one
My brain, man. My brain wants to read that as Lemony Snicket...if nobody knows who that is, that's cool. I'm showing my age, you're cheating if you use Google to look him up.
She wasn’t an empty character, necessarily. She was less full than the other characters, and then the story decided to change what her character was being filled with partway through, and to be honest, what it’s being filled with isn’t that interesting since it comes off as basically what Deku is doing but phrased differently and from the perspective of a literal supporting character.
@@davidtucker9498 I watched 3 seasons. She was cute, bubbly, and supportive and all, but that was it. She never felt like a person. (To be fair though, none of the girls in the show did)
@@n0dash18 Imo, you just described an empty character. Lacking purpose, meaningful motivation, their own journey. So much so that you can change the core of their character without impacting the story much at all. In a show with so many supporting characters, it makes me ask why Uraraka, one of the most frontal characters in the franchise, takes a backseat to background characters on a regular basis? That said, I was just appreciating how refreshing it was to see her have a real identity for once.
Izu (出) from "Izuku" (出久) can also be read as "De" in Japanese and "木偶" (Deku) means "useless person". (sorry about the edits, I was copy pasting this from another comment I left, and didn't proofread enough)
YamatoSFX is iconic now. It’s like Steve Downes (voice of master chief) playing star lord. Yeah it’s a different character but it’s still Master Chief!
