I have this exact model. Midnight edition 2019 I get a ton of compliments on the look of it. It gets really sharp by adding window tint. And Installing a halo wire harness to make the halo head lights come on with the daytime running lights. It’s a razor sharp looking car it does turn heads. I have children and man do they find it extremely comfortable and enjoy it.
This car was a gem when it came out 5+ years ago....exterior/interior were tops in many reviews. What a shame that GM/Chevrolet does not market this car! They should take this car and put it on a RWD caddy chassis if they decide to refresh it. Of course, they have it on the chopping block with the dive in car sales....but there are still people out there that don't want suvs.
We're one of those who don't want to buy an SUV! We'd definitely consider the Impala if Chevrolet moved it to truly compete with the Chrysler 300 and Ford Taurus, it needs a longer wheelbase and RWD.
Rob yes I am. Been a great car for the first 4000 miles. 0 problems. Lots of room for leg and cargo. The v6 is nice and smooth and powerful. Would recommend.
One of our personal vehicles is a 2001 BMW 740iL which was the original car we started filming these videos on. It's only a 282 horsepower V8 in comparison to the Chevy's 305.
I freaking love the style of the Impala Premier. The aggressive look to it and the fact that its in all black draws my total attention. I love the aggressive look of my '11 Cruze as well but the impala was always my first choice.
I really liked this vehicle a lot more than I thought I would, I'm sad GM is killing it off after this year. Would have been nice if they had a 2019 Impala on the fleet this year to give it a proper send-off.
This is such a good looking car especially this blacked out version, shame that its being discontinued, but they never even tried to advertise it at all, when I have the money i hope I can get one just like this one
I agree with you, we mentioned it when we featured the Dodge Charger a few weeks ago. I personally never paid any attention to the Impala before, but after driving it I really liked it.
I own a 2016 fully loaded/midnight edition LTZ2 version of this car and I absolutely love it!!!! I get so many compliments on it being a 'sharp looking' car. I will have this car for a very long time! :) Thanks for the review.
I am the original owner of a 1987 Buick Grand National 39000 original miles and some performance bolt ons,Those SS Impalas were nice and they run! My brother is a sheriff officer and he said those 94-96 police impalas were faster than the newer Crown Vics, LT1 power!
I’ll explain GM as my neighbor explained to me years ago. When the doctor used to visit people’s homes. If the doctor pulled up in a Cadillac. You knew that you was going to pay. If he pulled up in a Buick. You felt good. You knew he was a good doctor and was going to not overcharge you. If he owned a Chevy, well… At least you had several other brothers and sisters.
We're glad they haven't either! While we certainly prefer something with AWD during our winters, cars like this are what really excite us. Nothing drives the same way like a sedan.
Nice! We were asked very politely by GM not to take their cars on the track/drag after our Buick Regal video, but I'm sure the Chevrolet did nicely. It's a nice car, and impressive power for something that isn't performance-oriented.
Love the look and feel of this car. But if you do buy this car be aware of the 3.6l timing chain issues. Oil changes being done on time or early are a must for this car.
The gloss wood inside should have been matt wood. Shiny center consoles reflect the sun and blind a person while driving. When are manufacturers going to learn this?
We've had a few cars where this has been a problem on very sunny days. Only a handful of manufacturers are using a matte wood finish, or materials that aren't shiny in general.
One of the biggest myths is that you need AWD for winter driving. I’ve driven the mountains of BC for 25 winters and almost all of it has been with FWD or RWD.. when I was a poor student with cheap and worn all-seasons.. and now with the most expensive set of winter tires available. ...and who’s in the ditch, 90% of the time? A AWD or 4WD vehicle.. typically on the first straight stretch after they broke all four loose trying to pass a line of slower cars. Overconfidence in Motion.
Lots of people feel they are invincible with AWD when they really aren't. Winter tires make a huge difference, and are required here in Quebec both from a legal perspective but also from the amount of ice and snow we ultimately get each year.
Chevy dropped the ball by discontinuing this model. With the smoothe ride but high end and rugged look of this vehicle they could have put a turbo V8 in a limited edition model and made a killing. They made an almost perfect car and then discontinued it.
GM has been pretty good with making awesome vehicles and killing them off, this was definitely one of them. I really enjoyed the time I had with this, and would buy one if a good deal came up. AWD would have been killer for it. It's too bad GM is focusing solely on crossovers, SUVs, and trucks.
why no one mentions the best most stylish cadillac...the xts is beyond me... theres like no videos of the refreshed 2018-2019 cadillac xts and thats disappointing its a really amazing car
This is a great car. Have had the Premier over 8 months now. If you don't like the car it's probably because you have your nose in the air. I had a Cadillac before this one, and this is a dollar for dollar wonder car. Thanks for the video.
Agreed! It sits about $6,000 higher than the top-end mid-size sedans we've featured, but misses out on things like a 360º camera, auto-opening trunk, premium leather seating, and other small features. Once you add those in, the $6k doesn't seem like an appropriate difference in price for a few extra inches of legroom.
I have a 12' Impala LTZ and it rips, it certainly has a very dated interior for a 12' but it has all the necessities i need such as heated seats, remote start, and a good sounding bose surround sound. My channel shows my car.
unsafe. 3 young adults local to me were killed as they were t boned by an acadia in the middle of the night. if you have children I suggest you get them into a safer and more modern vehicle.
@@JakeDrives1 nah bro, i had an accident in my pala with a honda crv and his car was totalled few thousand later my impala is back on the road doing fine, not sure why you care dad how fast i be pullin bitches i got no kids and if i did they would be rollin in a murdered out boat bruh
I don't see how a 2012 Impala could be considered unsafe. The NHTSA gave the 2012 Impala a 4 star overall safety rating, mostly losing points for no active safety tech, that wouldn't really do anything in a side impact.
a weaker structure than a more modernly designed vehicle. I find the star rating to not hold up to it's initial rating after years gone by and vehicles twice as strong in the same size/weight class entering the field. I guess that's the way things go when we're looking at over ten years ago now since the design and build of the first Impala of that body.
Looking at a 2018 Premier in the pearl white. Really wish they had an SS version of these. I have a supercharged Grand prix I'm trying to replace and it's not as punchy as that despite the higher horses. My GP was my first car and really wish Pontiac was still around to make a sporty version.
I think the closest you could get to a big sport sedan would be the Chevy SS, although it's different enough from this. I wish I had spent more time in the Impala, I was impressed with it. Too bad GM killed it off.
@@PRNTestDrive I want an SS but inflation has put that WAY out of my price range. They are selling for more used with 50k miles on them than when they were new sadly.
Hi Nile, I find the Impala has great presence on the road being such a large car. The steering wheel styling generally resembles that of the 2006-2013 W221 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. I was curious whether you found rearward visibility in the Impala to be problematic. The Impala has a sloping parcel shelf that rises from the backseat towards the rear window. Some reviewers have commented that it impairs rearward visbility, while some owners say they get used to it pretty quickly and it isn't a problem with the rear view camera.
When it comes to reversing, the camera is definitely a must. We found that the sloped parcel shelf did reduce rear visibility, especially on the highway where it was harder to see traffic behind that was close because of it. It isn't the first car we've had this issue with, a simple solution for GM could be to offer their video rearview camera which is exclusive on Cadillac right now, but with Nissan rolling a similar system out on their vehicles, maybe GM will too.
That’s fair. I felt it was a little bulky and not very pleasant to look at. Most manufacturers are making them slimmer while this was on the chunky side of the spectrum. All comes down to personal opinion though.
I think FWD is the only thing that would really keep us from buying one. It's a really nice car, and priced well. But FWD only in a winter climate isn't going to be fun. It's not the worst experience, but it's certainly a feature we want when the snow starts coming.
I had a 14' Cruze and now have a 17' Malibu.. I live in Syracuse NY, one of the snowiest cities in the country.. unless you're trying to overland in the snow, a FWD sedan (especially one as heavy as the impala) will get you through literally anything you need it to with the right set of snow tires. I've ran both of my Chevy's with and without snow tires, without they're intimidating in the winter but with snows I wouldn't hesitate to drive anywhere anytime (on road) even in the worst of blizzard conditions. it's not a NEED it's a peace of mind thing. Happy Motoring!
Solid car, I wish Chevy had been more pro-active with refreshing it and keeping it up to date. the interior sucks. the exterior has some awkward angles.. I'm really hoping they'll give us a next generation. who knows with the way sedans are going. Thank you Nile for going out of your way to make this review.
It was our pleasure! I'm really glad I picked it up, it had a lot more to surprise me than I expected. The interior design does need a change though, but we're still impressed by the fit and finish.
Only a thorough refresh away from another five years of sales success.. GM has kind of let this one wither on the vine. truly a shame! Keep up the great work. Thanks again :)
It definitely is. We're in a disappointing time in American/North American automotive history as manufacturers are abandoning sedans in droves. This Impala was really enjoyable to drive, I wish I had more time with it.
The RWD might be hard to do for a final year, as they'd have to develop a new chassis, however they should be able to stick a V8 in this without much issue. Call it a special edition Impala SS with something the enthusiasts will appreciate as a farewell to the nameplate if they do retire it after 2019.
Ok way better than the Taurus, smoother & more roomy than the maxima & more handsome to me, younger looking than the 300 & Avalon & well it'll definitely last longer than a dodge charger but the charger is a beautiful car.
The Charger does have a very aggressive look, plus FCA really gives you a lot of choice with that car. We were pretty happy with the Impala though, doesn't stand out or show off, but it does a good job of being a big car.
I reached out to our Lexus dealer, we're waiting on the 2019 Lexus ES to arrive, hoping to be able to film that. Once we get rolling on that we'll be able to ask them about their used inventory to see if there's anything fun sitting around!
You always surprised do you not look at other reviews the impala has had good reviews since the new redesign its handsom and all but not my style I would get the caddy just saying good review as always
Often we try not to agree with what others think! There's only one case where I've pre-researched a vehicle on RU-vid before we filmed it, it was the 2018 M760Li and I watched the Doug Demuro video on it. Without that I wouldn't have know about the 3D 360º camera system, so that was a benefit. But I want our experience and expectations for a car to be as natural as possible, and outside influence can often be bad.
I just asked I been into cars since I can remember I always got motor trend, automobile magazine, car and driver any magazine about cars and I look at the RU-vid folk not all but I keeps my subscriptions 2 Motor Trend Car and Driver and Automobile Magazine. I love the automobile so where ever something is popping new or old I get into it see what I can see and what they working with
@@PRNTestDrive no, Impala SS. The bubbly looking Impala. I want to say 06 through 09 had a Impala SS version with the 5.3 LS4 v8. 00 through 05 had an Impala SS, with the supercharged 3800 v6. In 06, the 3.5, 3.9, along with the 5.3 was available in the Impala. After 09 I believe that the 3.5 and 3.9 was all available, with the 3.9 having the 300 hp. Thus the v6 having the same power as the v8. The difference is in power delivery. Obviously the difference in technology and finishing, is going to be vastly different, between an 2006 and 2018, but the driving experience (if the older car is maintained).
Different breed of vehicle. the Taurus is big power while the Impala is merely adequate. the Taurus is so out of date, besides the powertrain I hardly consider it competitive anymore against anything but itself. if that's what you really want I suggest you go and drive one. you will be astonished by the powertrain but the interior and up to date features are sorely lacking. I wouldn't hash out my money for anything but a pre owned one or MAYBE a lease depending on how the deal worked out.
I was stuck between a new impala and taurus sho myself.. I used to town a 2013 taurus limited but i never drove a sho.. Anyway i went with the new impala and love it.. As to the power of the impala, 305hp is a tad bit more than the previous impala SS at 303Hp... Also since ford is dropping the taurus they def wont be upgrading them ever now..
I'm not a big fan of to many smooth camera shots tho lol. seems to take the realness of the review away. I'm a reviewer myself and I like making my viewers sea sick while watching my videos lol
We're working to figure out a better way to film while maintaining the production time. Our older videos used a DSLR on a tripod & slider, now we're using motorized stabilizers with software stabilizing to try to reduce some of the hand shake.
Thats great. Well nothing wrong with having some steady shots in your videos. I guess its something you have to practice at with using those 3 axis gimbal systems. If I had one I'd probably be running everywhere with it saying HEY LOOK AT ME I HAVE A Cool Stabilizer everyone lol. Still the most important part of the video is the product and person on camera. Always remember your here to teach and entertain your viewers so they will come back.
I think their decision to kill off the Impala was one of my biggest disappointments last year. I really enjoyed driving this car and hoped to get into a 2019 before they discontinued it.
@@PRNTestDrive the exterior grew on me since when it first came out I thought it was an ugly ford taurus wannabe but that dash will never grow on me I would never buy a 300 because I dont like the drivetrain configuration
That is the question, right? The Chrysler 300 has a proper full-size sedan wheelbase, I believe it's 120.1 inches. It would have been nice if Chrysler had kept the SRT model though, really can't go wrong with a big power V8 sedan!
@@PRNTestDrive yes it's sad to see Chrysler only has 2 vehicles at the moment. I drive a 2003 Chrysler 300m special. It's put up with the Canadian winters and is my ol reliable
@@PRNTestDrive Okay, i was just going by what i recall when considering this car. I don't like the wheels and front end of the car. Looks cheap. Inside of car still looks amazing. Thanks
The SS didn't do very well in sales unfortunately. It wouldn't surprise is if GM axed this from their fleet, but then again GM does like to keep a heavy inventory to appeal to as many buyers as possible.
Interior style and luxury features are all over the place...Who approved that steering wheel??? Final sign off was done in the dark!! Our 2 generations of Optimas (2012EX Premium and 2017 SXL) give so much more and for so much less $! Just sayin'.
There's no doubt, it's the first thing we noted when we picked it up, it's missing some of the features that fully-loaded mid-size sedans are offering now, but that's the way GM does things. Want that 360º camera system on the Optima? Gotta get the Buick. Want those rear window sunshades? Gotta go up to the Cadillac.
I'm sorry but I owned a 2011 Sonata turbo limited (platform mate of the optima).. it's not even close or similar to the Impala. The Impala is a much more substantial and robustly powered vehicle compared to the inconsistent power of the optima 2.0t. the Kia's/Hyundai's are great in their own right but don't compare to the solidity and outright V6 consistent power of the impala or anything carrying the GM 3.6 for that matter. Just a different type and feel of vehicle.
What an overpriced pig, I bought the cheapest 4 cylinder model, no options, paid less than 22 k. Live in Chicago, no snow tires, performing just great thank you very much.
You don't know what you're talking about there Buckwheat. I've had Chevy farm-trucks (C60's), Pickups, etc. Had an '08 LTZ, & traded it for a CPO 2015 loaded LTZ, with the optional 20" wheels. The ones shown here are 19's, on this Midnight-Edition Impala. What do you drive....a Schwinn?
