They needed to prove Alan was the problem because his wife seemed like she could be the entire problem…. To keep the show on track, bringing her in full time for all remaining seasons would have screwed up the “Alan is a total putz” dynamic….

@@Rick_Sanchez_C137_ Yeah the real comedy was that Alan tried to do things right, and made a total mess of everything. While Charlie did everything wrong, and everything worked out well. It was a mature comedy from a time when the gender pendulum was pretty much hanging straight down. It poked fun at women and men fairly equally. You can almost see where things went off the rails, by this and other comedy shows like "The Big Bang Theory".
