Nice to hear Ray mention Onstar has a 10% renewal rate after the free trial period. That's about what it was when I was selling Chevys twenty years ago, and with the advent of smartphones why hasn't GM stopped selling Onstar. On a non-auto-related channel there was a mention that auto manufacturers are also looking at charging subscriptions for AM and FM radio service in new cars. Its been free for decades and now they think they can charge for it on a subscription basis; do they realize a consumer can get either band on their smartphone? Who comes up with these silly ideas?
Sadly, television airwaves also used to be "free" before the onset of cable, satellite, streaming, etc. Now you have to pay for the service & still watch the commercials that used to pay for the air time. What you are describing sounds like the same thing. Nobody's bank account is safe when greed is involved.
@MartinezbarbaraHonestly, I’m surprised that this Expert Valerie Jo collier is mentioned here, came across the testimonies of some of her clients last week on CNBC news, she seems to be doing extremely well….
The offensive thing is that they still build the cost of these paywalled services into the OTD price. And it isn't just an issue with heated seats where all the components of those heated seats are still built into the price of the car so that even if you never subscribe to the feature, they're still making a profit on that car, including the heated seats that will never be used. More so, the manufacturers are investing a lot of money into the computer programming that allows a tiered acceleration feature so that those willing to pay monthly get more acceleration than those who don't. If you don't subscribe to that acceleration service, the OTD price still reflects all the R&D that went into developing that tiered acceleration feature. I wouldn't mind so much if they offered a barebones trim package that didn't include any of that at a lower price but I doubt that will be the case.
Isn't it funny that Congress can immediately block a proposal from agencies that affect Lobbyist's constituents. But does nothing when agencies are making proposals that hurtfully affect average Joe.
@@huemann7637 Congress terms are every two years and am hopeful that perhaps one day maybe one new member may run with the ability to make changes to the current and perhaps that member can make a difference to the whole.
Sirius satellite Radio is the biggest scam in subscriptions. They used to be good, but they added so many channels to the same amount of bandwidth that the sound quality has become unlistenable. HD FM radio (free) blows it away in quality.
I agree!!! The only way that a subscription service could ever make sense is if the manufacturer covers the cost of the hardware. If I’m paying a subscription towards heated seats, but the manufacturer doesn’t charge me $1200 for the feature, that could possibly work.
@@michaelmcmurray804I’ve always maintained they cannot put their dealership name on my car unless they wanted to pay me for advertising for me. I started that when they were actually damaging the car applying the logo. Now they use decals and I still don’t want to have to remove it! Applying it is so rote I can check the car over let them wash it and suddenly it’s there again because someone thinks it was an oversight.
Years ago california enforced an advertised price. The dealership offered a car for a truckload of bananas. The buyer brought them in and the courts said they had to sell it to him!
@@michaelmcmurray804 Problem is, there's no such thing as a free lunch. The manufacturer is either going to itemize the price of the heated seats on the sticker, or just include it as part of the "base" sticker price. Either way, you're going to pay for them.
I hope they don’t confuse this idea with ACTUAL CAR FEATURES that auto makers can control remotely. I ponied up and bought a lifetime subscription to XM early on. They got rid of that when they realized that everyone was signing up for it instead of monthly subs. Thanks to a class action lawsuit over the fact that the sub expired when you sold your car, I can now forward my sub to a new car for a one time fee of $65. Anyway, the bottom line is, a car, and all its features should be sold as a complete unit! Want to charge monthly for access to a car and all the features you want? Simple - RENT/LEASE the car out and charge accordingly for whatever “features” the renter wants… But keep selling complete cars! Oh, and I live in Miami - as far as Toyota dealers are concerned, Kendall Toyota/ Lexus of Kendall is THE LAST dealership I would consider going to to buy a car. I’ve heard so many horror stories over the years.
Regarding the Kendall Toyota dealership scam, I thought bait and switch was illegal. Am I wrong on that? In any case, how could they expect anyone to walk into their dealership and be okay with paying several thousand over their advertised price? I'd tell them to pound salt, and walk out.
I love my Sirius XM, BUT I stream it on my phone and on my Fire TV and on my Roku tvs. Most subscriptions in cars are not useful for anything outside of the vehicle.
Very BS on that survey. They want people who are refusing to subscribe to anything to think that all their friends are doing it so they have to do it too! I was a subscriber to XM Radio since 2001 and in through the merger with Sirius. I kept it even with my last two Hyundai products. I got sick of constantly changing compact disc magazines in the trunk to different music and listening to terrestrial radio with nothing but ads. And I found it great on road trips. But in recent times as I found myself streaming more from my phone then listening to satellite radio, I recently terminated it. They convinced me, or I allowed them to convince me, to keep it online and on the app for $5 per month for 12 months rather than paying $25 per month having it in the car and online. I'm more than certain I won't renew it come next year. As I said I am on my second Hyundai product and my 3 years of the Blue Link app will expire in March of 24. That one I will subscribe to. With my previous car it was only a 3-month subscription. But I renewed and kept it going until I got rid of the car. I like that I can start the car from 10 minutes away let alone having to be within a line of sight to use the key fob. I like that I can set the temperatures according to the weather. That I will subscribe to. I will not subscribe to heated seats. I will not subscribe to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. If I can no longer connect my phone to the car, I'll do what most people do and buy a $10 phone holder and stick it on a vent. If with my next vehicle or vehicles, my only choice is to subscribe to features, my next new vehicle will be an old Mercedes diesel from the '80s that has absolutely nothing to subscribe to. I will install an aftermarket radio that has Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. I lived the majority of my life without heated and cooled seats. I'm sure I can ride out the rest of my ears without them as well.
It might be that the demographic surveyed have enough money not to care about the cost of a subscription. I doubt the survey was truly random for average priced cars pre pandemic 25-40k.
Car manufacturers spent the time and money to develop these new technologies like power windows, power steering, heated seats, gas pedals and brake pads, and should be allowed to profit from the R&D costs of researching how tires and gasoline work. To prohibit them from profiting from their work through subscription based models is unAmerican and a Socialist idea to expect them to share the fruits of their labor just because you paid the driving fee once.
Recommend a subscription "to a friend"?!? With friends like that, who needs enemies! We can barely afford the cars now as they are. I have a perfectly good radio and CD player in my 2006 Subaru, and they work just fine. For FREE. I'll save my hard-earned money for things that actually matter - like food and a roof over my head.
A dealership advertised a car online, I wanted. When I went there the price was same on sticker, when I inquired to buy, they tracked on 8k. I complained about bait n switch, called my AG, and left. The next day they offered that car at the advertised price, but they already lost my business.
That is totally B.S. ONSTAR, Blue Link and those high priced renewal, does not pay for what you want. The price for calling in a crash, getting help if you are broke down, can be had by AAA. Big rip off!😊
I pay for Sirius on my Jeep but they have their own app that allows you to do a remote start from anywhere you have internet, allows you to unlock the doors, and locate the vehicle…..but I wont pay nearly $400 a year for that service. Screw that.
XM radio....you pay to listen to a handful of songs over and over again. At my job the play the Highway. We hear the same songs at least 3 times a day. My employer pays for it what a waste of money!
Congress blocking the FTC rules? Can you go more in details? Zack and Ray, I was not aware there was a vote in Congress regarding dealership and OEMs. Would you share that information?
found an article about the possible bill with a simple Google search " The U.S. House Appropriations Committee backed a $70.28 billion government spending bill containing language blocking the Federal Trade Commission from initiating its proposed new rules for auto dealerships."
Humans are inherently stupid.. Why would anyone pay a subscription service for something that should be STANDARD on a vehicle? The same reason people are paying for 10 different subscription services on their televisions.. We're stupid.
I had 3 free months of Sirius on my 22 Rav4, but never used it once. Now I get emails and snail mail nearly every day. Screw them and screw Toyota for making it a mandatory install. It should be an optional software install at the dealership. Even better, the hardware should have been part of their scammy audio plus option. $1100 for a 2 inch larger screen is all it is. It would still be a scam with sirius, but slightly less of one. I don't use streaming music services either, they are just as worthless. I have a 64mb thumb drive filled with music. Anyone who buys a F150 gets what they deserve. Anyone paying $158k deserves worse than a F150.
My F150has it in the truck, the Sat Radio. I accidently put it on that once. I dont listen to it. Why? FM radio is fine. and when I want to listen to something different I have a USB drive and my phone to listen to Hawaii radio station in Hawaii via their webpage.. If I could order manual adjust seats in leather I would. Do we really need memory seats, heated seats etc.. NO.. How about just make stuff that dont break.. Like window regulators and 4x4 shift linkages..
I will never buy a car that makes you subscribe to a feature such as engine performance or heated seats or whatever else they can think of.. On Star or Sirrus/XM are different, those are services, and no I wouldn't pay for those either since I have smart phone.
At 63, I am old school and would like to order a car with radio delete and no carpet padding etc to reduce weight but those days are long gone and it is too bad. I understand why dealers have cars on the lots that have the most desirable options, but for me, I'd like to have just the basics and nothing more. Maybe I'm living too much on the past??????
I think the only way to fix these problems with car dealers is to do away with them and deal directly with the MFG. Tesla does it so everyone could do it. But the MFG's don't car what their dealers do because once the car is at the dealership the MFG counts that unit sold and the money is in their pocket.
When sirius satalite would ask me to re-subscribe at a low annual fee I would tell them to send me an invoice and would pay it by check. Now they only offer the deals if you give them a credit card number and I have not used it since then since they can always use that number if I forget to cancel!!
Let's try to see from the greedy perspective of car dealerships, especially new ones, let's say FORD. What I want as a dealer is, you as the customer consumer, come over, get excited over a certain vehicle, new, or preowned, etc. I want you excited enough not to notice how overpriced expensive over msrp by 1000s or even 10 K. of dollars your favorite car is. Also I want you to finance the purchase of it, even high interest rate, 10% and up, and I want you to go some 8 years to pay up the loan, perhaps even more. I want you to sign papers you have no clue what you are signing. I want you to have copies of your signature documents, while I keep the originals, to forge fraud your signature. I want you to buy dozens of warranties on your excitement new vehicle. I want you to think by your emotions and not your mind. I want you to buy key and other similar monthly membership. For example if you don't pay your $50/monthly key monthly membership, then your car will not ignition start. And other memberships, such as wheel membership, if you don't pay, they'll be locked. So, I as the dealer will get 100% of all my monies IN ADVANCE, for example my entire $75,000 from the get-go and still monthly scam you, with warranties, guarantees, memberships, fake overpriced repairs, etc. Now you as the loser consumer will find out that the car is a lemon very soon, so you abandon the loan. The car is repossessed. The victims are you, the customer consumer, the loan giver, the USA nation and TAXPAYER. While the dealership is laughing scamming all the way to the bank. And this clockwork cycle rotation will repeat again and again. PLEASE LET'S FIGHT SCAMMERS CAR DEALERS. LET'S PRESSURE DETROIT MANUFACTURERS TO FIRE THESE THIEVES DEALERSHIPS. LET'S CONACT CONGRESS, VOTE, ADVOCATE, CHANGE CAR DEALERSHIPS LAWS. LET'S MAKE THESE BAS#ARDS REDUNDANT AND FIRE THEM! CAR DEALERSHIPS ARE THIEVES.
Andy Mohr Ford also has a 2023 Ford Ford Expedition Max Platinum for $825,206. How did you miss that? That is more a of a "Really, you got to be kidding me" than the Raptor.
Hell ... buy two ( for parts silly) because they sure as hell are not going to be selling that 'fun machine'10 years down the road. Or any other battery-operated vehicle. Toy or bicycle. The range on the Lightning: with a small load: oh, a solid 50 miles.Maybe ... who the F would be so stupid as to buy one of them? Not I says me. Nay nay nay II is like at the home improvement store. All power tools are battery-operated. ( the corded ones are under the counter & never talked about in public) And non are the same battery/ and that one extra battery costs more than the dam drill did in the first place. Are you getting the idea here? I still have all my corded tools/ and they work well ( the older the better) and no one is buying their battery-operated ones. They are in the stores on commission anyways/ so the stores don't give a dam! When my Milwaukee battery drill goes bye-bye/ so do I. Handy/ but not necessary. Oh. And they use a different battery now/ and the old ones are as scarce as hen's teeth! And super expensive if you could find one. All are made in China/ most likely in the same factory. So all you loyal brand buyers out there be forewarned. They haven't made these tools in America since WWII. lol Anybody buying a battery-operated vehicle of ANY type or brand is buying a beautiful lawn ornament just a short walk down that path to Nervana that you are on. Just one good EMP bomb dropped in the middle of the USA and goodbye to even your battery-operated 'pleasuring tool' the wife has in the top drawer by the bed. Wink Wink. All these electric anything items will just be so much landfill. Period. Be forewarned/ you will regret it for the rest of your life. Amen.
Sadly your airline didn't buy that particular option. Hey ... you wanted a cheap flight. You got it! ( Ryan Air out of Ireland) comes to mind. They would charge you for the toilet paper you used/ or the water to wash your hands. I am being facetious here, but you get the idea? But these days just about all airlines pull the same 'money-generating' ideas too. Do you want a seat cover for your seat? Hmmm, that will be $10 bucks please plus tax & GST. Thank you. The mass funeral will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Sorry for your loss read the note on page 30 of the local newspaper. ( do they still make newspapers?) I first heard about this 'nonsense when reading about BMW/ Mercedes Benz/ Porsche/ AUDI/ when you can get an upgrade 'app' on the fly as your driving along at 80 MPH! What sick fool came up with this idea? The same one who figured no one would notice if VW did some minor 're-rigging of the fuel and pollution numbers on their vehicles worldwide. I have NEVER forgotten that scam. Do you want the 100% brake system or the more economical 50% brake option? Will you be needing it for 1 day/ 1 week/1 month/ or 1 year? The choice and savings are all up to you. The apps are not transferable if you sell your vehicle, and there is no refund for partial use. Just so you know that. Schmuck! WTF? At that point, I will revert to my bicycle or my walker. Whichever mobility device I happen to be using at that time! lol
Last time I purchased a GM vehicle (2020) I told them not to even turn OnStar on because I didn’t want to go through the hassle of later on canceling. It doesn’t offer any functionality I don’t already have on my phone.
They are nice. I've had heated seats in all the cars I've owned for the past 23 years. My last car also had cooled seats for summer. But if any company made me pay a subscription to use them.. No thanks.
I kept ignoring my Sirius offers until they came down to $5/month. At that price, I am willing to pay just for the convenience. Anything above that, I'll just listen to the radio or use a music service on my phone.
I did that for awhile. I had to call to cancel and they would “convince” me to renew for $5/month for 6 months, and I’d then agree. 😆. But now I work from home so I canceled it.
Hey, that's the same as going to the grocery store after looking at the weekly sales paper, shop, go to the checkout & everything rings up at the shelf price instead of a sales price. That would be bait & switch to just get you in the store & they would expect you to pay the higher price. Luckily my local grocery store sells everything at the sales paper price but if the register rings up a higher price or if the shelf price is different than what rings up on non sale items, then if you have completed the transaction by paying, then just go to the customer service desk & they will refund what you paid plus you get the item free. It's their 100% Price is correct guarantee or it's Free slogan they have hanging on signs from the ceiling. Let's see a car dealer do that.
Ray/Zach I'm a subscriber love your videos BUT STOP 🛑 new cars are a waste of our TIME 🤬 in one word 📢 USED USED USED USED USED who the hell can afford a new car - your followers are WORKING Ppl.
My mom and I bought a Toyota Corolla from a well known dealership in Bucks County. The interest rate that was agreed to was 2.9%. We did not go over the paperwork properly we trusted the dealer and the salesman 😅. Turns out it was a bait and switch… we were actually being charged 6%.
Read every line of every contract they put in front of your face before you sign any of them. If they complain you are taking too long, walk out the door.
@@jammer2.036once a rate is locked in, it can't change. The dealership did a different contract where the 1st year or something similar was one rate and then the rate goes up. It's sneaky but it's legal and the customer should have sat there and read the whole thing. It's annoying but a purchase this big is very important.
The trick is to stop having tricks that "increase" your comfort, usability and removing features. Why would my wireless apple car software all of a sudden no longer work? Because I don't pay for a subscription? You GOT to be KIDDING me!!
Never, never, never give XM your credit card number....did you get the NEVER part of that sentence? if you want to renew they will bill you and you can demand the lowest 6 month plan and pay by check. When you give them your CC info, they'll AUTOMATICLY renew you at their highest rate and it's almost impossible to get it changed after they renew!
Ha. Andy Mohr is my hometown (Indianapolis). What a shame! And what the hell. If you sort by highest price, they have a Ford Expedition for $825k. That must be a typo.
I'll never understand truck people. I daily drive a 2009 Tacoma. It's fine gets the job done. 155k for a raptor!? You could get a new lotus emira and still have 60 thousand left to buy a nice truck
When I first bought my 2020 RAV4 LE (base model) I had a 1 year subscription to connected services. The only thing I used was the reading from the tire pressure monitoring system which I didn’t know at the time was considered parted of “connected services” so essentially they were trying to sell me data that my car was emitting already. It’s a shame… but I’m sure American consumers are too stupid and will fall for it.
That lady talking about the Toyota and bait and switch then went to Mercedes likely got ripped off even worse at the Mercedes dealer in fact I know she did because she bought an electric Mercedes. Sorry but that lady was still not very bright.
Automakers, listen up. Bring back the original VW Beetle. Make it safer with modern technology and an updated radio with a screen, but keep it basic, including the price. Allow for numerous upgrades and add-ons and body modifications to customize it. No brainer money maker.
Cricut users had a strong enough reaction against suddenly charging to use machines we already bought and we shut that down. It’s not happening. They took it back. Get angrier, yall.
Also, what is the study design, who paid for it, how is it surveyed, who are the constituents? And drug companies do clinical research. They have all of this published with well defined data. This sounds like a puff piece designed by people that were looking for a specific answer
Another money maker. Not for me but some will. Hey I have ford pass if it goes away if I don't pay then oh well. My car has sirus xm I let it run out. Safety feature should be illegal. I think safety feature they are talking is like on star after a crash.
They been doing this for years. I went and looked at a car that was in an ad for the dealership in the local newspaper, had pictures and all , cost was $5000 ( used car in the 90s) , dealer told me it was $8000 , I told him the price in the paper was less, he told me it was a different car ( which was a fat lie) so he went and “ talked to his manger” ,, who then in turn said he would sell it to me for the $5000 price,, I walked.. and let him know that i knew good and hell he was lying to me…
Easy signing up for the crap, hard as hell to cancel, something new and free for a while lots of of sheep will recommend it. They haven't been sheared yet!
i hate you have to pay for remote start on a subaru, and i never use Sirius even if included and they are the most annoying calling and emailing after it expires
