Rear End Noise When Turning - Quick & Easy Fix on this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition. In this video you will see the popping and clicking was so bad that it made the wheels jump when turning in the driveway. In this case it was a simple fix but the customer had spent lots of money and time already in replacing parts thinking the brake calipers were sticking.

The 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am you see here is a rare 10th Anniversary Edition, just 7,500 of them were made and it’s unknown how many have survived to the modern day. The model was offered with two engine/transmission choices - either the Pontiac L78 400 cubic inch with the 4-speed manual transmission, or the Oldsmobile L80 403 cubic inch with an automatic transmission.
Each 10th Anniversary Edition came with the WS6 handling package as well as a special paint, interior, wheel badge package. They also had a special 5-color hood-bird whose wings extended over the hood and onto the fenders, the body of the car was outlined in a special black and red stripe package, plus front and rear spoilers. This would also be the first time that the “Turbo” styled wheel design was used, a feature that would make appearances far and wide throughout the 1980s. Later in 1979 a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition would find fame as the Daytona 500 pace car, and other second generation Trans Am's would appear in the 1979 movie Rocky II, and the 1980 movie Smokey and the Bandit II

My 79 trans am was doing this exact same thing. I thought I had major issues in the rear end. Found your video and did exactly what you did and it fixed it! Great video! Saved me a lot of headache and money!

Great informative video. Glad to see a car video without crappy music dumped over the top of it.

Thanks! I’m with you on that. “They” say music increases watch time but I can’t stand it either especially when I’m trying to learn something or get information

@@dhammiam Mine is a 2004/E46/M3 but exact scenario. I think the non-posi fluid was used along the way. Back driving!

In my case it took about 15 minutes of driving slow figure 8's in a parking lot. These seemed to get the LSD additive worked in, then nice and quiet!! My sound was more of a dragging sound.

I have a 1979 too and started doing that in reverse when turning after old brakes replaced with new and the rear axle bearings and seals were replaced and differential fluid changed and that additive. It stopped the clicking in reverse but now I notice clicking while slowing and turning going forward.
@dhammiam
@dhammiam Год назад
The clique was so bad on this Trans Am that used the additive and the special lube for positive traction rear ends. If it keeps doing it you may need to as well. You could try just adding some more additive Instead of draining

Nice car and video. I have a different issue. My car vibrates and makes a wobble sound until I get passed about 23 mph. Guessing bad U -joint. Always a hassle finding a garage I trust to work on my car here. I don't have the tools to do all that.

Did you figure out the issue? Sorry, I saw this but missed commenting back

@@dhammiam Waiting for snow to quit and melt so I can get it to a garage. I'll take it in and have them look at it. I'm hoping it's only U-joint and nothing more. I'll update in about a month. Thanks for your reply. 🙂

We have a 99 SS that is doing the exact same thing after some rear diff work that was done by local shop. So if im understanding your video, you needed to add more lubricant?
@dhammiam
@dhammiam Год назад
Yes basically so. I used the gear lube made for limited slip with it as well as the small bottle of Equa-torque additive just to make sure it corrected the problem

My car is making the same noise and i added lsd oil and lsd additive, still making noise. Is it possible my diff might not like synthetic?
@dhammiam
@dhammiam Год назад
This car was doing it bad enough that I used the posi-traction lube and the additive. Try adding a 8oz bottle of additive from a GM dealership, on top of what you’ve already added
