Great video thanks for taking the time to make it! 👍👍 About to do this to my newly purchased 2006 v6 at 107k, original shocks are overdue.
@DIYJeff

@Tim H, if you follow the steps in the video you shouldn't have any problem. The one caveat is if you don't have an impact gun then tightening the nut down onto the stud of the shock in the trunk will take considerably longer.

@@DIYJeff where can I find some rear air shocks?
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff Год назад
@@needfortruth534, places like Americanmuscle.com and other specialized muscle car companies. But I warn you they aren’t cheap. You’re looking at $1,100 for a set of rear air shocks.

Never ever place the tire aside, always place the tire under the vehicle to use incase of stand/jack failure

@terryrideout7457, possibly. If they were bad enough that they weren’t holding the weight of the rear end.

Yo Jeff thanks for making this video I didn’t have to watch the whole thing but you saved my ass !!!! I was almost done installing the new Rear Struts until I couldn’t figure out what to use on it before Jeff told me which one to use the very small 5/16 mini wrench 🔧 coupled with the 15mm wrench to tighten the Rear Struts back up

Jeff my mustang needs new shocks , my car moves left and right when I slow down? Feels like as if I have a flat but I don't ? U think it's my shocks??
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff 2 года назад
@Jerry Rivera, shocks wouldn't affect side-to-side, just ride quality up and down. Sounds like possibly uneven tire wear, tire pressure too low, or you have a rear control arm issue. Could be other more major issues, but those are the one's I'd check first.

I have a clunk when I let off the gas, and I’m thinking it’s the top bolt being loose of my aftermarket shocks. So the top bolt is in the trunk?!
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff Год назад
Yes, correct. It’s pretty easy to access. Just have to pull back the carpet. But it’s highly unlikely the bolt is loose unless it’s a freak think. All shocks and struts are designed for the shaft to spin such that the bolt can’t come loose without holding the shaft notch with a wrench.

Just did my 2010 GT. No wheel removal. Keep shock compressed. Do bottom first loosely then release the shock and do top lug. Easy.

Great video Jeff but keep things straight for the Newby's as I noticed several times you referred to The Shock as The Strut and then back to the shock again. I knew what you meant but others, oh well. Thanks again...

@TJFT1234, good catch, I've worked with suspension on all my vehicles so much, I use the wrong descriptor sometimes.
@Michael-fw5ef

I dont understand how to determine if the shock I removed and the shock I am installing has the same distance during install so it doesnt change my ride performance/settings. I hear people talk about it but I have never seen anyone show it on video.
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff 5 лет назад
Michael, if the one's you are taking off are original equipment, then you would need to look for a replacement that says it an original equipment replacement. If you're not sure, you would need to take the shock off and measure it in the fully open position and the fully compressed position and then compare it to the replacement. Not sure of any other way to figure it out.

I watched this thru twice. At 5:18 before you put wheels back on, don't forget to swing the sway bar up and retighten the upper links. Jeff, you skipped this in your video.

Awesome video i happen to be installing the exact same shocks as you i was wondering if you could give me a feed back on them how did they feel? Still holding up?
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff 4 года назад
@Norlin E. Casas, I have had zero issues and they've been on the car almost a year and a half. They are a medium-stiff ride but that's what you would expect on a sports car. Stiffer suspension means less power loss. I highly recommend. them.

Is a 4 wheel alignment necessary after replacing both rear shocks?
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff 3 года назад
@Daniel Bartelson. No, just the rear. If you didn't touch anything at the front an alignment is not needed, unless the front is out of alignment from hitting a pot hole or a curb or something like that.
@davidstegne2044
@davidstegne2044 2 года назад
There's no adjustment with a solid rear axle so alignment would not be necessary.
@winkawak
@winkawak 4 года назад
can this be done on a ramp without using jack stand?
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff 4 года назад
winkawak , no because you have to take the load off the suspension and if it’s on a ramp you can’t take the tire off and the suspension will be loaded.
@winkawak
@winkawak 4 года назад
@@DIYJeff Thanks Jeff last question, will it be okay to jack up one corner at a time to replace shock or strut? or do i need to rise both both wheel up at the same time for shock or strut?
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff 4 года назад
winkawak , you can certainly just do one side at a time.
@winkawak
@winkawak 4 года назад
@@DIYJeff I see that you put the jack stand with c surface on the end of the frame rail, wouldnt it slip? Can i place the jack stand below the rock panel where the jack points are?
@DIYJeff
@DIYJeff 4 года назад
winkawak, yes you can, as long as you place it under the structural support of the car, you can place a jack stand under any support.
