On this second episode of the sound system, I install rear speakers, adapters, and speaker dodges on the Jeep YJ. There is a variety of ways to add speakers to your jeep but for me these speakers fit the best.

Question, why didn't you use 6x9 speakers? Looks like that's what the speaker housing is designed for? And why doesn't the speaker housing fit all the way back to the tub? Thanks

Hi Doug Harlow, yes the speaker pods are meant to house a 6x9, but for personal preference I went with a different speaker that complimented the power output of the stereo. Unfortunately, I would have also preferred the speaker to fit all the way against the tub to eliminate any gap but these pods weren't designed that way. I’ve got these speaker pods on my list for install very soon as well! They’re a great design. Q: did you wire your pod speakers in series or parallel from your soundbar speakers? How’s the volume running them without an amp (just using your new head unit?) …or if you don’t have the soundbar (which I can’t tell from the video), I guess you simply wired them directly to the head unit?

Hey there Jason Tomljanovic🤙yes its a great way to make use of an empty space in the Jeep. Unfortunately my Jeep doesn't have a sound bar, so I wired the speakers directly to the head unit. Simple plug and play. Now as for the volume, I definitely need an Amp and a Subwoofer to get the full potential of the sound system. For now it does the job 👍👍

@@revenantjeep ok, good to know, thanks! I have a soundbar in our ‘93 so the pods will be adding an additional 2 speakers (for a total of 6). The plan is to install a small 400w class d amp (tucked away behind the dash somewhere) so I can run all 6 speakers with decent power (but not overkill). Want to keep the setup clean and simple. @@revenantjeep I finally got around to finishing the install. I replaced all 4 factory speakers and it made a **HUGE** difference. The factory speakers were disintegrated... the cardboard had rotted away completely from years of exposure. Then I installed the 2 extra speakers in the pods. I was originally going to install a traditional AMP as well, but due to the fact that our YJ's don't have a lot of areas to hide it from thieves, I discovered this unit: Sony DSX-GS80 It's a 400W class d integrated amp / head unit. Even with running my rear (5th and 6th) speakers in parallel (in the speaker pods), there is so much power that I don't get any clipping or distortion unless I crank the volume above 45 (max 50). The whole setup sounds amazing. I would highly recommend the Sony DSX-GS80 (has bluetooth too). It's also all black and looks really natural in the YJ dash in my opinion. Not the lowest cost head unit, but considering it has a built-in amp + the head unit with all the latest features (bluetooth, lots of EQ configuration, you can control it via the Sony iOS/Android app, small black external microphone for calls that you can mount anywhere you want etc), I think it's actually very high value for the price. I also really value the simplicity of only having a head unit and not a separate amp to wire and hide somewhere. This way I simply used all my factory wiring (to the front and sound bar speakers, then ran the speaker pods in parallel from the existing sound bar wiring). www.crutchfield.ca/S-2raH9edhcj3/p_158DSXGS80/Sony-DSX-GS80.html

Wow that's great. I agree with the lack of room in the jeep. I been been hesitant to add an Amp/subwoofer because of the amount of space it would take. I like the unit you provided. I may end up switching over. I just have to address other little problems on the jeep first

Hi @jayscott1616, I believe the product may not be offered on Amazon for the moment I purchased these back in 2021. I searched but the company only offers them for Jeep TJ on Amazon.
