Hey Matt! This is the first tutorial from you i've watched and.......... What a joy to finally come across a video that is made with focus and preparation. That is worlds apart from the rest i've seen, even those from Propellerheads can, way too often, make a grown man fall asleep within 2 minutes. So your contribution is highly appreciated, thought you'd needed to know.

He is simply showing one of the many many features in Reason. The amount that you are personally willing to explore into the program will be the determining factor in your ability to "splice it up like Kanye". If you want something, you have got to work for it, and working for it is exactly what Kanye does. Without understanding the core premises of the program though, you will never be able to actually master the sounds of Kanye, or whomever it is that you chose to emulate.

Yes it does this to try and make sure you don't lose your music. As far as your computer as long as you have a recommended one, not the lowest/slowest one, you should be fine. I use a Mac Mini 2.4 Core Duo with 8GB Ram

Thats actually what I do, quite a bit. Also, I have disable stretch on the imported file, then tap tempo, too. Combine that with a time stretch to the nearest grid line (snap enabled) and its pretty easy. Not as easy as say, Acid Pro or Ableton, but still quite easy

Recycle is the only program I know off that can help figure out tempo. But there is another way, listen to a loop or a song say on your ipad, smart phone...ect Open up Reason and tap to the tempo on the transport and I bet you can get dam close to the tempo if you have half good timing ;-) For a 6 min file you would just quantize it like you would anything else.

If you hold down alt while dragging the end of an audio clip where the triangle is, you can stretch it to the size you want, to make it fit with the bpm. Thats what i do :)

Song are saved to any location you choose. If you have an audio file you want to save and use in other Projects save it as a REX loop.

The .REX files are saved automatically with the Song file and you can find them in the tool window any time you need them or you can export them from the tool window if you want to use them in another project. Allows try to use the original Tempo if you can when importing loops.

You need to make sure your loop you cut out is just 2 bar long and that there is no unwanted silence at the end because it will get played. This should be very easy. Cut out the 1,2,3,4..ect bars of a loop, quantize and import into Dr. REX...done. Then you can play it at any tempo.

Yo, nice video! I have a question though! Do you need the Balance to record into Reason 7, or can I use the interface I already have (m box mini)? Thnx!!
@LearnReason
@LearnReason 11 лет назад
They are a indication that there are comped tracks or that you recorded in "Loop" mode which for audio is comping. If you record in loop mode and only record one track you will see these which means the track is in a comping state so press record again and it will comp. Try to record a take with "Loop" off and you will see the marks are gone because you are not comping the recording.

Yes you are right about stretching the clip but this has nothing to do with finding out the tempo of a clip.

Okay, I tried it again tonight. I opened reason 7 and before importing the audio file that I wanted to chop up, I set the tempo to 103bpm in the sequencer. Because I new the audio file was some where at 103, 104. or 105 bpm. so then I imported the audio file and chopped up a 1 bar loop of the audio file that I wanted to work with. then I double clicked on the chopped audio file and quantized it to 1/16 of a note and played it back with the click and sounded in time. so i bounced it to a rex loop
@LearnReason
@LearnReason 10 лет назад
You just need to setup you audio interface in Preferences and then click record. You will only be able to record the number of tracks at the same time that your audio interface is capable of. In reason you can record up to 64 tracks at the same time.
@LearnReason
@LearnReason 11 лет назад
You need to check with the AVID site to see if they have ASIO/Core Audio drivers for your M Box and OS.
@cptfatjack
@cptfatjack 11 лет назад
Or do I have to bounce the audio file once I find out the correct tempo of the audio file first, and go back to that audio file and use it in other projects?
@cptfatjack
@cptfatjack 11 лет назад
and I also imported the rex loop into a created dr octo rex player and played it back and it sounded like I did a nice 1bar loop cut. so the sequencer is set to 103bpm which is where i want to work in. at first I was having a problem quantizing the audio file when the audio is not originally 120bpm while the default bpm 0f 120 when reason is launched at first. Or is it possible to quantize a piece of audio file even though the project you are working on is set at a bpm that is lower or higher

what are those 3 blocks/lines at the bottom right of the audio file after you edit it. everytime I edit an audio file in R7 they appear. for example at 7.10 in the bottom right they look like -.-
@cptfatjack
@cptfatjack 11 лет назад
alright I tried cutting a 2bar loop of an audio file and double clicked on the 2bar loop and bounced the file to a rex loop and on the tool window I double clicked on the bounced rex file and it opened a dr octo rex player with the 2bar loop in it. I clicked on the run button but it sounded like it played to the end of the loop and a gap before returning to beginning of the loop. I also noticed that the slices weren't following when the run button was on. I'm getting a bit frustrated here?
@cptfatjack
@cptfatjack 11 лет назад
I also want to ask, should I store my projects with my rex loops in a folder?
@cptfatjack
@cptfatjack 11 лет назад
ok i'm a bit confused here. How do I find out the correct temp of an audio file? a piece of audio file from from a club track. because I just imported the audio and cut a 2 bar loop and tried to get the correct tempo of the 2 bar loop using the time stretch method and it is not working for me. what am I doing wrong?
@LearnReason

You must have made some edits to the audio, if when you click on the audio clip it opens in the comp editor click the "Bounce" button and then the next time you click on the audio it will have the grid markers.

Buy Protools and be done with it. Beatz is on crack. Pro-tools is black hole for your money. I know, I had it. I was less than impressed. Video guy: Great video, would have liked to see the quantize first, not at the 6 min mark and then the breakdown of all that can be achieved. Very interesting stuff. I love to see a tutorial on making a an epic lead guitar sound. Think dream theatre. I'd also love to learn to make a great metal guitar sound. Think Soilwork.

thanks for these lessons. when I am bouncing down a track I am trying to bounce to new samples to open up in nnxt but I cant locate the sample. I created a new folder to save them in and they are getting saved but when searching using nnxt they are not showing up. any tips?
@LearnReason
@LearnReason 10 лет назад
Jacob Myers I do not understand your question?
@jm213213
@jm213213 10 лет назад
when you right click on a sample and it lets you bounce clips to new samples, bounce to disk, or bounce clip to REX loop, I am able to open dr rex and play back the chopped sample but I want to try to open the sample in NNXT. how do I do that?
@jm213213
@jm213213 10 лет назад
to be a little more specific and hopefully make more sense: I previously would use Recycle and reason 4. I'd chop up my sample in recycle and then save as a rex file and then open up the sample in NNXT as a rex file. It is similar what I can do with Dr. octo Rex in reason 7 now but I prefer playing the chopped up samples in NNXT as opposed to dr octo rex.. to be able to do this do I need to go back to using recycle and create rex files? I like the ease of just dropping a file into reason 7 and being able to chop it but I'm not getting the desired outcome thank you!
@LearnReason
@LearnReason 10 лет назад
Jacob Myers It works fine for me. I split audio at markers, right click on my sample, bounce it to new samples in song, open up an NNXT, reset it, then browse samples and select Song Samples and I find my sample, and then it is imported into the NNXT and I can play it and edit it.

@LearnReason
@LearnReason 10 лет назад
You record the sound from the video and then import it into Reason. remember there are copywrite laws.
@Marauder623
@Marauder623 10 лет назад
ok, thanks, what do i record with, because my sound effects are mainly archive stuff more than anything
@LearnReason
@LearnReason 10 лет назад
You have to be able to record the output of the youtube video sound. So then you would have to be able to route that signal into another sound recording device that Reason is using to record from. You will need 2 sound Devices and a mixer or virtual cabling software which is a pain.
