This has been my favourite piano plug in for many years. It is so playable and the pedal/key noises freaked me out, took me back to my dodgy first upright.

You should check the back of the unit it has a resonance input that "uses" the strings modelling to resonate with any you throw in, is particularly good with voices...

Radical piano is My go to piano. I rate it above any of Native Instruments and Arturias vst. Haven’t checked out Keyscape yet.

I like the kind of wonky sound, the slight detuning makes it just a touch honky tonk and bright sounding. The mixing of different sound characters is interresting.

I own a lot of different piano libraries and vsts but I often find myself using radical piano for almost all of my music containing piano melodies. That may change once ai get Noire. Your playing is quite enjoyable.

The first one you played at the beginning sounds like a nice upright sound for ragtime (which I play), though the higher notes are missing some resolution unfortunately. Not bad at all.

You can set up your sustain pedal to be continuous in the controller editor for komplete kontrol

What is it with the "Model D" "magic"? I mean the "good version" you see for Minimoogs, pianos (Steinway apparently here for Radical Pianos), Behringer which in itself named their module "Model D" (from the good GOD Moog). Also some mouses and motors etc. Seems like when a company is up to the fourth iteration of a device then it has gathered THAT level of "fairy dust" to make some people think "Mmmm ," Model D"! (which probably was just slightly better than the C before it in most cases! ) ;:>)

Good plugin if you want a particular upright slightly unpolished sound. There are so many piano plugins. I like the Alicia keys plugin. The Hans Zimmer plug-in is supposed to be amazing but haven’t seen many demos of that.

Hi Woody, I have an issue with the sustain pedal on my digital piano in combination with the Radical Piano instrument. When I fully press the pedal it only goes halfway not fully up in the instrument. Any idea how I might fix this? It's also not as responsive as yours, meaning it either goes halfway or completely down, nothing inbetween.

hi, sustain pedals can be continuous, or just on off, or just on, half, off. don't know what you have but it's weird that it only goes halfway. might be interesting to try some other software pianos (like pianoteq demo) to see how it behaves.

that will have no effect, perhaps you're just used to hearing it on some other audio chain, speakers or headphones etc.

It’s a good alternative but it can’t be the best unless you only go for detuned pianos. It fills a category. Keyscape fills another and pianotec yet another. You may just be speaking from the excitement of hearing such a well presentation...and that’s understandable.

Ha! The premise of your video is flawed, I already rated Radical Piano as a flexible go-to that can sound great in many situations and use frequently. I am a fan. Though, right enough I accumulated very many piano plugins/libraries before eventually uncovering this truth :-)

Hey Woody, thanks for the video. Always interesting. I had the same issue as you had with the sustain pedal not being continuous. Woody, I got this with Reason 12 and it sounds like trash. Default gain is very low and the pianos are not convincing. I wonder if they changed it?

nothing changed in 12, just have to work with the sound a bit, you can see in the vid what I did. it's how you play it of course, and the feel of your midi-controller to some extent.

Hated it when it came out. Hate it less now after a few years. It’s good when you want a particular character rather than something pristine. I find it falls apart in the higher notes and with any chord based music
