I miss being a DA; I'm in hygiene school after 10 LONG yrs. Remember, a Dr should never correct.... humiliate or yell @ you, especially in front of a patient. The first time confront him/her the 2nd time FIND ANOTHER JOB - don't stay in an abusive relationship... Lol
Congrats on hygiene school! But well everyone in the office and even in my school, made it seem like drs disrespecting you was like a right of passage. Like something that is unavoidable. So that’s why I just thought this is how things are until i stop making mistakes I guess 🤷🏻♀️ but thanks for the advice 💕
A doctor should never disrespect u , I have been a DA for 5 years and no doctor has ever be littled me , yes they have corrected me but not by yelling but communicating what I should’ve done, if they make a mistake it is on THEM not u honey , I watched this video just saying what the whole time , honey I would leave that dental office if they treated u like that. Yes it is part of working as a team and I have never felt as if I was at the bottom
Your suggestion on confrontation is spot on. Way to grow your self esteem. There are toxic office cultures big time, but letting external circumstances pigeon hole you, you ain’t gon grow!
I've been a dental assistant for 38 years and I love it! You can get treated like that in any field you just have to find the RIGHT office for you. Those people yelling at you making you feel bad, are not everywhere. Find the right office
awesome! i start my RDA program tomorrow and I am going from working as a CNA for 3 and studying pre nursing to going into dentistry you are absolutely right, finding the right work place! because every industry has this problem
Girl, I remember when i was a first time no experience dental assistant. I got hired on the spot because I wanted to know what the dental field looked like, since I transferred majors. That shit was tough. I cried in the bathroom almost everyday and cried to my parents and so. Had another dental assistant bully me and belittle me almost everyday for months and wouldn't try to teach me how to be a better DA or all of thing to know about dental assisting. That time I was also getting my prereqs. done for Dental Hygiene. This other DA kept telling me i'll never make it to dental hygiene school etc... Great video girl! I felt this.
Awe man that sounds like a STRESSFUL situation 😭 girl I would NOT have been able to handle that. Are you still dental assisting or in dental hygiene???
Melanie Luna-Diaz hey girl! Awh thank you for your reply! I’m currently trying to apply into Hygiene school. Still trying to practice into dental assistant while waiting. I don’t work at that office anymore. The dentist was super cool, but management sucked and there was favorites 😔
Oh okay well GOODLUCK! The hygiene program is super hard to get into ;-; But hopefully since you have experience already in the field, that can give you extra brownie points :P I’ll be applying to the program once I’m done with all my prerequisites ^.^
h3ll0ashl33 I’m sorry you had to go through that and I hope you get into Th e program! I’m applying for the dental hygiene program at my school next year and I as wondering if being good at math chemistry and physics is important? Also do you have to be really Extroverted and sociable to be a hygienist?
The Matrix, hi hello! Thank you and I appreciate it. It really opened my eyes to the outlook of some dental offices. But just because someone is bullying or discouraging your career, never ever listen to them. Never doubt yourself or what your capable of. Also that is very exciting that your applying your DH program! I wish you all the best! I would say math chemistry or physics you necessarily won’t need in DH, mainly focus on your sciences. Usually, you’ll need one accredited math course to still be qualified for DH, but that typically is a college algebra class. The higher the grades you get in your prerequisites in your sciences the better chance you’ll get accepted into a dental hygiene program. It just depends how competitive the school your applying to. Last thing, dental hygiene is in the healthcare field and you don’t have to be extroverted, but you’ll have to be sociable. Again, I wish you the best!
You just gotta find the right office. I’m an assistant and feel very important. I work in a place where we are all a team and treated with respect, and work together. No yelling or blaming, just teaching and learning opportunities. Hope you find your place!
Agree with you 100% I’ve been in the dental field for over 3 years and you really do have to have a tough shell to work in this field because what they say can really get to you. Luckily the doctor I’ve been with these last 2 years was always really patient with me and now we work really smoothly but in the beginning it was very nerve wracking. We definitely don’t get enough credit for everything we do so as on DA to another Thank you for everything you do! You got this! It’ll all start feeling like a 2nd nature really soon :)!
Yes preach it girl! 🙌🏽🙌🏽 THANK YOU for everything you do as well, 3 years in this field is very honorable 💕 I’m actually going back to school to be a hygienist so that I could get treated a little better .-. Cuz idk if I can take this for years ( I don’t have such a hard shell ;-;) but im glad to hear you work smoothly with your dentist now!!! 🥳
Just wait after a year dental assistant is EASY!!! I been a DA for 4 years and i can do it in my sleep. & idk what kinda of office. I never have to talk to patients about their insurance. That’s why we have a insurance person who deals with that. My first doctor was tough on me and after i learned he was more lay back & chill. He always wanted me to assist him. & now my current doc she’s amazing. Just keep your head up.
Hey girl! Love your page! I'm sorry that you've had some negative experiences! Prior to becoming a dentist I worked as a DA for ~10 years in a family practice and I do agree that it is difficult at first because every dentist has their own way of doing a procedure/ particular instruments they prefer. I have never had a dentist blame me/ yell at me and I really hope it gets better for you or you are able to find another practice with a kinder team! It should NOT be the dental assistant's fault if a procedure goes wrong/ the wrong tooth is extracted/wrong prescription given... it is 100% the responsibility of the dentist, it comes with the job! Looking forward to seeing more videos from you!
That’s good that your in a good place that treats you right!!!! :D but yes hopefully once I get more experience I can go look elsewhere/).(\ and RIGHT! They should be held accountable for what they do ;-; thanks girl 💕
@@cerealis_5432 the dentistry itself I don't think it difficult, but the job market can be tough especially during COVID. I don't own my own practice nor do I plan to, I was able to find a government position as a general dentist.
@@laurachoque6537 If you don't mind my asking, how long have you worked as a general dentist, and what kinds of procedures do you typically do? Also, would you mind sharing what your starting salary was? If the last question is too intrusive I completely understand if you don't want to answer it.
You have helped so much. I got hired about a month ago and I have been beating myself up so much for making mistakes and forgetting certain things. I am in sterile tech right now but it is taking awhile to get actual hands on and when that time comes to actually assist and deal with patients, it is intimidating. But watching your video has helped me understand that I’m not the only one who feels like a failure.
What I have found through my 9 year journey as a D.A is learn to know your purpose on a personal level and know that it’s a value. THIS is self esteem. High self esteem leads to confidence. If a provider has to berate you, this is low self esteem on their part. Take the high road, confront that for their benefit. If they can’t take that well, move on up to something better with the pain you purchase. 🙂
I think a major red flag that an office is toxic is when they ask you things like "can you handle constructive criticism?" I am new to DAing and that's tossed around like salad by Dentists and lead DA's. There is absolutely NO NEED to be rude to other people especially if they know you are learning. This field is stuck in the 1970's and definitely needs a cultural make-over.
Thanks for sharing that! I’m a dental student and this video shows me how important it is to promote a good work environment. It is ok to be learning and to make mistakes/be slow at the beginning. And btw, it is the doctor’s job to review the medical history. Yes, it is helpful that you remind them but it is their legal obligation at the end of the day.
Ohhh my your so honest I love it! I'm been in the dental field for 23 years and everything you put out here is so true, a lot of this didn't happen to me but I saw it happen to other assistants but, one in particular after 13 years in the practice she still taking from the doctor sad. You are in your way to greatness, one thing I will say to you always talk to the doctors about the way they make you feel when is wrong.
You remind me of when I was 18 working at my first office. Just keep your head up and take everything as constructive criticism, remember it’s just work.
I just got a job at an office literally last week. I’m coming in without ANY experience whatsoever, but they are willing to teach me the basics in order to be proficient in my job as months pass. I’m still very scared to get yelled at, because I’m timid, quiet, and kind of get stressed when everything is coming at me. I’m starting with cleaning instruments and rooms first, but I’m scared to work with patients! I’m so scared to make mistakes and maybe jeopardize the patient from not coming back to the office/ losing a patient. I wish I had this video last week 😭😭😭
Awe don’t worry! You just have to tell yourself that you will make mistakes and it’s okay. And also think to yourself that sometimes the doctors will say stuff out of pressure. But just take note of all the dental Assistants who are assisting so that when it’s your turn to be with a patient, you’ll know what to do ☺️
Yes curious how you're doing now?! I was in same position and I'm doing pretty good and have earned respect from my co workers only issue is my schedule and this damn pandemic lmao
@@Langlangsland I’ve been doing good! I still stay in the back because we are incredibly understaffed, but I’m comfortable with patients and working with them. I got X-ray certified and started to practice more and more in both general and pedo.
I was a DA for 1 year. I found it so stressful being the one to open the office, flush the lines all that, basically the one running around making shit goes smooth all day with the least amount of compensation.
New subscriber here!!🙋🏼♀️ really considering becoming a dental assistant and soon a hygienist:) thanks for all of your videos.. believe it or not, you’re actually helping so many people out with the “behind the scenes” aspect of the job!
Wow thank you!! I’m really glad I can help xD and That’s what I’m currently doing as well, going to school for hygiene :D being a dental assistant first really helps you during hygiene school
Im an assistant for 25 years and i been through all the stuff mentioned here! But listen up YOU DO NOT NEED TO STAY THERE! Abuse is abuse! And its unprofessional for a dr to treat staff this way! I say leave, dental assistants do not get paid alot And to deal with people talking down to them like this is RIDICULOUS! You will find another job! Nothing is worth this! And I still make mistakes. Nobody treats me like this! NOBODY
I agree with all of this! Most I never went through, but basically you just have to be mindful of which office you choose during your journey. I also made 2 videos about my journey in this field 😊.
It all just depends on the office! I say if you really want to be in the dental assistant field, give it a try. Its a short not too expensive course and you might find an office that really suits you :)
She is right it's not every office, the office I'm at now I've been at for 2 years and the doctors have never been mean to me even after making 1 or 2 mistakes.
Also you will get respected more if you stand up for yourself by showing the dr you know what you are doing for what you can confidently do and things you are not confident at just ask and have them show you... if they take the time to show you be teach they are probably a dr worth working for if not then find somewhere you will keep growing 🙌🏼
I made soooo many mistakes! I’m shocked my office even kept me. I’ve been yelled at in front of patients before too which is UNACCEPTABLE! Now I’m on furlough, and have been taking advantage of the time I have off. I’m interviewing at another office tomorrow and maybe another one after that. Been in the field for over a year.
Awe man. I really hope you find a new office that treats you better :/ offices need to remember how they were when they were new, maybe then they would be more patient and less aggressive;-; good luck though 🤗
Melanie Luna-Diaz I’m almost at the minimum hours I need to take my RDA exam. I hope I get called back to work soon. You think it’s okay to look for other jobs in the meantime?
I am so disappointed I didn't get to watch this video before being hired back in June. I started as an intern and after completing my 45 hours, the doctor liked how I did and hired me. But sadly everything went wrong. The dentist yelled at me for not doing things right, how I "wasn't using my brain",not using common sense. I was treated like shit and I felt stupid. She told me that I am working with her for a month now and that I can't do anything right. I wanted to cry and had a mental breakdown a week later. I wanted to leave the job and do something else, but I wanna keep trying. I know how you feel and being a dental assistant is really, really tough.
Sigh, unfortunately alot of doctors say that “ use your common sence” like I’m sorry we didn’t study this for YEARS like they did. But fr though it takes time to get things right, and even then you will mess up here and there. My coeworker has been A DA for 4 yrs now I think and she still messes up here and there. But even though there alot of mean doctors, there are some really nice down to earth ones ( especially the dentist fresh out of school xD ) so don’t get discouraged! If you are not happy in that job, find another one with a nicer dentist!! Keep your head up girl 💕 I’ll be praying for you!!!! 🙏🏽
There are better offices girl. I’m a DA and let me tell you, the first time a dentist ever pops off on me, I am gone. Not even in the military was I treated the way y’all are being treated and that’s one thing you should not tolerate. Without YOU the dentist is nothing. Remember that. Know your worth. Leave that place girl! The dentist should be treating their assistants with so much love because you are the foundation of their work!
This is why I quit being a DA I went to school for it and succeeded and I got hired at my externship site. It was hell! I was belittled, under-minded, and humiliated. Not worth the mental anxiety 😥
I went to school for dental assisting. And I learned that full responsibility is on the dentist to make sure he/she is doing the job right. Good luck on finding a new job. I think you should. That office should be ashamed.
Luckily the atmosphere in my office has drastically changed now!! We even have a new dentist who is super nice and down to earth now 🤗🤗 Thank you for the support though :,) ❤️
Ive been in the dental field for 7 yrs honestly i think my job has been super easy because ive been lucky enough to have the sweetest dentist. I have learn so much from them and make me feel part lf the team. Dont worry it will get better with time enjoy and learn as much as you can ❤
Don’t feel discouraged I am a dental assistant and I love my doctors they never yell at us or anything I forgot a instrument during a procedure and the doctor asked me for it and he grabbed it by himself and at the end of the procedure we both just laughed it off
You really have to have thick skin to become a DA I have been in the business for 2 years the first year was so tough but i have gained so much confidence people don’t settle find a office that will treat you good
Ana that’s good advice. I would try to find another except for the fact that besides the doctors, this place is really laid back and fun xD also it gives me a great schedule to wear I can still go to school for hygiene and do my work while I work xD
Melanie Luna-Diaz even in the office that I am in rn it was tough at the beginning but I put up for experience but as time went by it started become more chill I guess it will be hard everywhere but it’s where you want to put up with of course they shouldn’t take advantage but nothing will be easy at first
I’m going into the dental field! These have been all of my worries! And I really want to stand up for myself if a doctor does yell or belittle me I mean likeeee I’ll probably just say “if you disrespect me, I will walk out and never come back!” 🙏🏼🙏🏼 I do want to find an office that understands how to train new people with patience though for sure ❤️❤️
I’m a high school student and have one more year left. During my senior year I will take a dental assistant course. I work part time as a cashier/ to go in a Mexican restaurant so I’m used to having people sass me but I agree with you I stay because it’s a part time thing for the moment but if I want to go into dental and get treated that way for helping out then it’s a no for me but like everyone says you just have to find the right one. Also do you have any tips I know this was made a year ago.
Girl I love assisting! I been an assistant for 10 years! I love it! Maybe it’s just not for everyone, I am a multitasker so I am not only sitting with doctor there is too much to do! Listen when the doctor is doing an emergency exam the assistant can leave an sterilize, stock the rooms, look over schedule see what’s happening, being an assistant is wonderful!! I love it but I don’t play with anyone who tries to be bossy to me or disrespect me!!!! So watch it!
I decided to take this route during the covid because I wanted something different! I'm a pre school teacher that has been teaching for 10 years. I got stressed tf out teaching those damn kids.......Im 32 and decided to go this route and I hope it works out best. Thank you for your video
Oh wow! XD I was going to college to be a teacher too, but my mom has been teaching 2nd grade for 20 years and she finally quit last summer bc of the same reason! 😂😂 (the stress of dealing with the kids xD) so that scared me off and that’s why I went this route too! I hope it works out for you too! It’s definitely a different pace than teaching 🙃
I am working as a teachers aide for prek and just finished my schooling and I’m already looking into dental assisting career because teaching is not my speciality it’s too stressful especially for the minimum pay
I work part time as a dental nurse and I work part time as a data analyst. I hate my dental nurse job with a passion because they are so rude, but love my data analyst job so I might switch to doing that full time instead 😅
This was so good! Thank you I'm about to take my lab final which is a crown procedure and I'm very nervous haha. Thankfully the Dr. seems nice and knows I'm still a student. This was really helpful
No problem! Thanks for watching ^.^ and man, nice doctors are the best and make learning so much easier when they understand you are new and don’t pressure you. Good luck 🥳🙌🏽💕
I am a dental assistant since 2006 and I love my job.... I should say that everything that You said was true...we dental assistant gotta have thick skin...but when You found the right person (dentist) its awesome
I totally agree "WHY NOT BE A DENTAL ASSISTANT " this is 10th year of my dental assistant. I like the dental procedure itself . not all of it like you said. has to be very strong heart and strong soul. I am looking for a chance to be a hygienist. but I feel kind of boring, but they got more respect. hygienist is much more simple job than dental assistant. so, good luck!
I'm a da1 and I decided to go into sales instead and I work on my own and make so much more than I would in an office. I've heard so many horror stories 😭
I’m going to school to become a da and I’m so scared about everything! I enjoy it but I know once I’m in the actual environment and in a office everything is gonna change and I feel like I won’t enjoy it how I thought I would . I don’t want them making me do something I don’t wanna do and then yell at me for making a mistake, i don’t know I’m very anxious about everything I get anxiety thinking about it
I was a dental assistant for 8 years before nursing school, everything your saying is valid but remember.. if stuff does go wrong the dentist might fault you, but they’re the ones who are liable and are gunna get sued.. not the assistant. Remember that.
Damn, sorry girl. In almost every job you have mean people that make you feel like you aren’t doing a good job, in that case switch jobs, go to another one. So, you need to learn tooth number? Is that hard girl?
A CA yes that’s why I’m going to school for hygiene now :) and no tooth numbers aren’t hard, once you get the quadrants down, individual teeth are easy to get down ^.^ what I had trouble with was remembering the steps to procedures. And handing the doctor the wrong instrument at the wrong time . Stuff in that nature
Melanie Luna-Diaz So what was hard about the dental assistant program? How many more months do you need in order to be done with the hygienist program? Btw, I subscribed to your channel 🥰
I’m sorry you are going through a hard time at your job, but I wish you took a different approach with this video. You are really discouraging to a lot of new DA’s... I am fortunate enough to work for a dental practice with 5 incredible, patient doctors who are extremely involved in treatment plans and patient relationships (as they should be). Keep in mind that anyone and everyone should do a working interview to get to know the doctors and work environment. I shadowed at a bunch of practices that felt very toxic and unwelcoming before finding my office. Research for practices with good reputations and low turn-over rates. Current and future DAs- this can be a wonderful & rewarding career if you find the right environment to work in... don’t get discouraged!
I mean people do have to know the real truth about what actually happens. And maybe not in every office but it's possible. So I would rather have an honest opinion, than sugar coat it. And I understand people will get discouraged because everyone is different, but its good to know so that they can prepare ahead.
I thought I had found my calling... After watching this video I am highly doubting it. >.< Sorry you went through all of that, hope all is well for you now!
Wow yes ! I honestly thought I was the problem . I was so nice , willing to learn and good at my job . The girls are so mean and make you do everything, the dentists do be little you . For the pay , do something else ! . I’ve been so beat down by them I have bad anxiety . I decided to go back to school and do something else .
YUP!! But honestly I just found another office that seems like my dream office! The dentist is super nice and patient. I am still going to ship to be a Hygienist but I am in no rush now that I have a good atmosphere. What did you go back to school for?? :o
this is true it can happen, ive experienced some of it myself also however it is possible to find a clinic that you wont get mistreated. once you realise it is about the dr and not about yourself it gets easier, in australia doctors are definitely accountable not the nurses. its definitely is not as easy as it looks.
Any job in the healthcare field, nursing, dental assistant you need very very tough skin, you come across toxic environments toxic dentists, horrible management, and bad co workers
I just started my first day was today obviously I have no experience nor I went to school but I’m so grateful I’m having the opportunity this week as a work interview I’m hoping to really really get good at it and they keep me 🥺
Personality has alot to do with it too! Just keep up a great attitude and even if you make lil mistakes here and there they will def keep you 💕 good luck 🤗🤗
Omg girl me too I’m in a work interview and they have me doing hands on with no experience in the dental field I was a preschool teacher before tell me how it’s going for you
Wendy C hiii i just saw this and since I posted this it’s been good they have me suctioning and learning to assist the dentists it’s a small office I work with only two doctors and 3 rooms but overall the staff is very nice and helpful they even gave me a book of info about the instrument names and what they are used for I just have so much trouble memorizing tray setups and also knowing when to go assist which room to seat the patient in and with speed because it’s fast especially on a booked day:(
I’m a dental assistant and i 100% agree with every single point but nevertheless I love my job and wouldn’t have it any other way! Just focus on doing your job and forget about the rest. I’m sorry you had such a terrible experience 😭 your office sounds really terrible.
all those reasons is why I decided to quit my last job as a dental assistant and come back to puerto rico and focus on studying so I don't have to handle that from anyone... In my case the other assistant wanted me to be her slave just because she was a doctor in her country and she's been an assistant in the US for only 4 months and the doctor also was doing what she wanted. I worked 11 hour shifts and did not even eat anything because everyone would go to lunch and leave me with 3 patients at the same time alone. Not for me.
Hey people I remember one story that mark my life for ever, i was doing my internship in an office where i made a mistake and the doctor told me that i was lucky to be there, because he knew doctors that throw stuff to the assistant( like the mouth mirror, or any instrument close )when they made mistakes , real story I said well would be an instrument fight because I would do the same thing to him 🤔🤔🤔
I'm a dental assisting graduate with my RDA as of two years ago but I couldn't ever find a job until February of this year but it was a horrible place to work for because the doc made me administer nitrous without a certification and it was to the point where I quit on the spot and went back to my retail job and now my chances of finding another office are below zero so I think I need to do something else but I don't know what.
I’m sorry this happened to you. Dental offices are toxic- especially chains. Full of narcissists, gossips, trouble makers, con artists, manipulators, aggressive bully behavior, people trying to gain popularity- disrespectful, petty, immature, unprofessional behavior. People like us went into the healthcare profession to be part of team to serve and help other humans- the right reasons. You are not responsible for reviewing the med history, taking out the wrong tooth, etc. it’s the dentist. Sorry that they made you the scapegoat for their errors. There is NO excuse for treating a team member like that. I am a dentist- and believe me, even we get treated very poorly when we are working with toxic office owner/ chain or even by nasty unappreciative patients. We get mistreated in SO many ways. People like me cannot even talk about it to anyone- it’s abuse and if discussed, you are considered weak. Believe me, it has greatly affected me. I have experienced horrible treatment by fellow narcissistic colleagues and horrible “office managers” who are nothing but aggressive manipulators. They are not there for true service to others and/ or looking out for others or being a leader/ team member. For them, it’s either all about power trips and/ or producing even if that means at the expense of the patient. Healthcare cannot be a “business” and we shouldn’t treat patients nor fellow team members like a number. We shouldn’t be treating patients like numbers, behaving like a car dealership, be only seeing $ signs. I am good at what I do- better than average. But I don’t lord it over others- I know I put on my pants just like everyone else. Anyway, I’m glad you were able to find a better office with much better values. My health was affected by working in places like this. I still have fear/anxiety/ ptsd from my experience. But I pray all the time and ask God to be with me as I do every procedure for each person I work on and to protect me from evil. He protects me always. And He will protect you.
This crazy I’m reading everyone comments now I’m worried I pray I find good clinic offices to work with who will be patient with me so I will work like a pro and get the hang of it
The law actually does not prohibit your boss from yelling at or insulting you. Before anything else, talk to them and explain to them that what they are doing makes you feel uncomfortable and you want them to stop. If they don’t stop and are making discriminatory comments or are bullying you or threatening you then I suggest talking to HR because that is not okay whatsoever. Also read over the company/office policy thoroughly so that you can protect yourself at all times.
This was a bit traumatizing. I hope everything works out well for you. But now I’m unsure if this is the field for me. Anyway, overall informative video. Thanks for sharing 🙂🙃
I just accepted a job as a dental assistant today. And now I wish I hadn't fr lmao I mean it's pediatric dentistry so it's a little simpler (I've been a teacher for 5 years and have some dental knowledge but not experience), but if an EQUAL tries to come for me, idk man 😂 I'm very professional but I'm bound to find somebody in the parking lot
Iss okay!! It is overwhelming at first, but I am now 6 months in and am barely starting to get the hang of everything 😅 give it some time and hopefully it’ll get better 💕
Im on my last week of my 3rd module of dental assisting school and despite having my CPR, HIPAA,and infection control certifications I’m ready to quit because of all the pressure and responsibility put on dental assistants. It’s too much stuff to remember. The multiple repercussions for a mistake isn’t worth the anxiety to me.
True , even under receptionist they can yelled at you anytime . And the dentist wont pay over time and still saying it like it legal . I am gone quit soon got my resign letter ready . Shitty job ever in my life spend my 5 years on it . I will do cashier job paying minimum wage no more dental assistant for me . Good job girl .
I had a bad experience with the people I worked with. One particular girl was so evil. And they were doing free jobs for people without my boss knowing. And when I told my boss about it she went back and told them. What an idiot. When u think you're doing the right thing.
Omg you’re so right, right right, i don’t get why this field have to be so fuck up , nooooooooooooo why?????, we are so important in the office, why we have to be treated like this!!!!
Everything you said is 100% true, not all of the Dentist are Jerks ( sorry to say this), but most of them are!!! just because most of them are not satisfied with their career, they take all of their anger out on the poor Dental Assistants. I had an experience working with a dentist that he was feeling jealous of me why I’m always being positive about dentistry! And why I always spreading positive vibes about being a dental assistant! 🙄🙄🙄 just because he was regretting why did he choose to become a dentist in the first place.🤷🏻♀️ As a dental assistant I loved my job and I still do, but if you choose to work with the wrong people, you have to regret waisting your time some years later.
you don't need to put up with people's shit, or belittling, let's respect everyone no matter what job position you are in, they have soo much ego. I hate this field so much, I come home crying saying I hate my job, I won't be renewing my DA license, I'm not happy, I hate this field, its a cutthroat, they hire you and three days later fire you, they are so full of themselves, driving in nice cars, buying a house and the DA get treated like shit, not training, just two days of training, then you have to know everything right after that, versus Dentist go to school for 8 years practice constantly, but DA gets two-two weeks training then get thrown out into the wolves, they expect you to know everything, you're pretty much a Dentist but get paid a DA salary, it sucks. We have to do everybody's job, the patient will make the appointment 1 hour before closing, let's say you work 9-5, they will schedule at 4, then you will get out at 6 because you have to clean the instruments, the patient doesn't care if you have school, another job to go, they don't care about your life, they know that we close at 5 but they don't care, they have no consideration for the DA's, we are the scapegoats, I can see why a lot of DA quitting, Dentist having the highest suicide, patients are not happy coming into the field. I will never work in Dentistry ever again. I F Hate this field, and I am so glad I quit
My dentist was kinda rude, not to me but behind patients back. She was just very Divaish and I was walking on eggshells around her. Sometimes I just went on autopilot. My office manager was not so great. There were hygienist and 2 were kind but one treated me like her secretary/pet THE FRONT OFFICE INSURANCE WAS SCARY TO ME. I was like say whatttt i dont know what your talking aboutttttt. I paid 4 thousand for my schooling and worked 2 months for free and then started off making 9 dollars 😯🤨 I was running around like a chicken on a treadmill. And I just felt pressured and under schooled. I had a patient on my first day call me a bitchhhhh bc I left the lead vest on him to long trying to find the right x ray tool. Ouuchhhh. I was like this is my first hour on the job. JESUS HELP MEEEEEEE. AND FELT LIKE Drowning into my tears. My first week was horrible bc there was no other dental assistant besides me and I was just doing a free externship trying to learn. I stayed at that job for 5 months. Then left later. I learned alot. But it just was not a good environment and the pay was so low. I honesty rather work at Walmart🤭 and make 12. I know every dentist is different and sometimes people have much better experiences but I do agree with this video 100 percent. Eventually I did get the hang of everything but it just felt like.. now what... am I happy?. I dont want to be here. I dont feel appreciated at all. The patients were the only thing I do miss. I helped alot of nervous people deal with getting there teeth worked on and tried to comfort them. So that was a good memory.
What ended up happening? This is exactly how I feel except I am only two days in and I already know I don't want to be there! Even before finding a job I would go to interviews and think to myself wtf am I doing here? Do I really want to be in an office with minimal sunlight, the same 3-5 miserable people EVERY DAY for 8+ hours a day? 😂 I've held others jobs in the past and I know every job has its ups and downs but something about being the DA in the dental field screams toxicity and full-on hierarchical.
I just finished doing my Prácticals at a clinic as a Dental Assistant and it's like I am the one doing this video.... everything you are sayin is right 🤦
Thank you so much for sharing and being honest I’m still on the fence about going to school for dental assisting . I love your channel you have another new sub ‼️💕
THANKS GIRL ^.^!! And no problem :) I hope I didn’t scare you off completely though xD being a DA still has its perks xD I’ll make another video about it later :P
I just started training with no previous experience. The thing that annoys me is Dentists have had 5 plus years at uni and many years working professionally. I’ve had two months. I think there is just an unrealistic expectation that your knowledge and skill should be at a certain level. It’s kind of shit.
I'm a dental student. And I've worked as a dental assistant, and most of what she's saying is one person's opinion and experience. She had a bad boss. Being a dental assistant is fun.
I agree with you girl... but after years of experience I learned put my foot down ... once I got blamed for burning a patient's lip during a Root canal treatment and I was not even holding a heat instrument. And I have been blame of alot of stuff. Also, for treatment diagnosis... lol 😆. The only thing I do if I am no longer happy I move on.... We assistants are like Gipsy
I’m a boss assistant! When I just started my job at a dental office the team tried me especially the manager, he was rude!!! Disrespectful I took a lot at first but then I had had enough! I blasted the manager like he tore my cheque after I confronted him about not adding my last name also to cheque he wrote, when he did that to me instead of rewriting it nicely I lost it on him!! I put up my fist to knock him out like literally!!! An that look of fear he had in his eyes for the first time stuck with him every time he sees me now! Plus I was an very very experienced assistant that his office had needed smh! Listen when people try you don’t take no disrespect from no one they will crush you to the ground! Stand firm an make the kno if they try you at work? You ain’t scared to cuss them out!!
