Hey guys, in this video I discuss reasons why you shouldn't become a physio.
Let me know what you thought by commenting down below!!
Reasons Why You Should Not Be A Physio
1) You only care about money
A lot of people come into physio thinking they’ll end up making a ton of money by the time they start working and in actual fact that’s not the case. As I’ve mentioned in the past physios are generally underpaid health professionals and especially when working within the NHS, the pay is not that great, its actually quite average (in my humble opinion).
This is something that I’m only now finding out and didn’t really do a lot of research into prior to coming onto the course. Of course everyone’s circumstances differ and a lot or little could mean a different thing to someone - one mans trash is another mans treasure as they say.
Nevertheless, don’t let this put you off as if you are in it for the dolla, then maybe working in private practice and establishing a brand for yourself in a niche area may make you a very wealthy physio (that’s just one idea).
2) You don’t like touching people
GASP*
Did he just say what I think he said?...YES I did. As a physio your job revolves around improving another person’s mobility and function. With more able patients this may mean moving their limbs in a particular way to show them an exercise or correct form, so if you feel uncomfortable touching other people, which everyone kind of does to an extent then maybe a position as a research physio may be more appropriate for you.
Research physios mainly carry out scientific trials to improve the practice of physio and this mainly involves a lot of hands- off work.
So, just something to consider.
3) The paperwork
As a physio working in a hospital or in private care, paperwork can quickly become one of the biggest headaches you have to face at work. Having to treat one patient usually involves you carrying out an assessment report and completing notes after every session they have with you detailing what actually happened and also when they have their last session with you.
I think this is something that won’t be changing anytime soon as in general healthcare you have to note down what happened for medical and insurance purposes. Who knows maybe we will see a new development that could digitally transcribe a series of notes whilst recording details from the physio? Could be an idea for anyone watching who wants to make some money.
That's it guys, thanks for reading!!
