I can’t watch Simon and Marcy without crying my eyes out. Watching my grandparents slowly become someone different. Somewhere lost in an ether, with only fleeting glimpses of reality available to them as the labyrinth of their minds decay and wither. That episode shook me and still does.

You know, when this show was still new and there wasn't any back story, I really didn't like Ice King. He was annoying, stupid, and attached to the wrong people. But then I met Simon. Gosh he's such a lovable personality. He's smart and depressed, but still sees beauty in this little girl he risks his life for. This random little girl he had no idea existed, and he treats her like a daughter. That's when I started to see why Ice King is how he is. He's crazy but he's still in there. You can hear Simon calling whenever he's friendly with Finn and Jake. When he just wants attention of love. He misses himself. You can still see who he was shining through this persona, this mask, of hatred and jealousy. His design is amazing. My favorite characters in this show were always Jake and Gunter, but Ice King has gained a renewed respect to me. It's honestly kind of amazing. And who would've thought, it's another Rebecca Sugar show. Ugh Steven Universe

I like how Marceline understands why ice king is crazy at the present time and she is patient with him, she's aware what the crown has done to him and she knows that he did it to protect her during the war times

Rebecca Sugar grew up in Silver Spring Maryland, the city I am growing up in right now. When I cry to this song I think of Rebecca growing up the same kind of person just a mile away

Sounds like a song on the downward effects of alcoholism, very sad and eye-opening.

Dimentia and Alzheimer's is the crown symbolically. "Please forgive me for whatever I do when I don't remember you." That line is so heartbreaking because I have a grandma going through this exact thing right now and it's hard to have her sometimes forget who I am but I love her and even though she forgets things I will always forgive her and never hold it against her. The illness is evil and I hope there is a cure within our lifetimes because it doesn't only effect the elderly, it effects children and even people in their 20s too.

Its a great song about dementia, and in scene when they sing it u can see a Marceline tear when she realized she lost a father figure and a friend

This song but a character is singing to their past self, and, "Please forgive me for whatever I do when I don't remember you," is them doing things that their past self would've hated.

The first time I heard this song, I almost cried.

I think so. It's just a theory for now, but I think he did. Also, the Ice King might save the world in the future for all we know

the one key feature to understand about Adventure is the meaning of sacrifice and understanding, for example Ice King made the ultimate sacrifice of giving his sanity away to keep safe, Finn and Jake give everything up constantly for the betterment and safety of the world, and even after that they were all forgotten, this one key feature is what makes ne dislike Adventure Time, our hero’s forgotten in their own world. Although Ive King is understandable Finn and Jake did so much anf were easily forgotten

I just...I really get this song. When I was little, my Dad was my hero. He and and my Mom never married, so I would always go to his house every other weekend. We would play with his ferrets, hunt crabs and we would eat mini weats together. He always seemed like a happy guy, but would often disappear for weeks at a time, I was little, so I never knew where to. Until one day my Mom came up to me to tell me that he had passed away because he never took his medicine, and I believed her at the time. As I grew up, there was always the thought that that's not what happened. When I was twelve, I sat Mom down and asked her what really happened. She told me that in those weeks he would vanish, my Dad would be sent to a mental ward for schizophrenia, and on his last visit there, he took his life, and that he didn't want me to know because he was ashamed. I still don't know how he did it to this day. I still don't know if I want to know. I miss him terribly.

I heard she was going through a rough time when she wrote this song, which probably made the episode more melancholy than expected.

That final line in the chorus really seals it for me. "WHEN" I don't remember you You realize the impact that there isn't anything Simon can do about it and so his only option left is to apologize to Marceline ahead of time for what he's becoming.

I love how well they actually went into the story in adventure time , you can tell its not just for kids. But as for Rebecca sugar she is amazing. Her music is so inspiring and she puts so much feeling into this show and Steven universe. By far two of the best shows out , hats off miss sugar

Isnt it funny? How people hate someone without knowing what that person went through. Why that person acts a certain way.. Til some bit of information comes around and now every one suddenly feels for them. I think people should have compassion for all living things regardless. Who are you to judge? Who are you? Who? And why?

My Father has COPD and for the last few years his memory has been getting worse because of a decrease of oxygen to his brain. On Thanksgiving he had to be rushed to the Hospital because he couldn't breath and none of his medications were helping him. They had to resuscitate him on the way there, and for two days they had him sedated with a tube in his throat to help him breath. Over the last few days he's been heavily medicated, but they've been slowly bringing him out of it. Today was the 3rd day in a row I've been able to talk to him, but it was the first day he was able to coherently talk back to me. We were about 15 minutes into a conversation about how he was holding up, when he started talking about how upset he was that I hadn't been there to see him yet... I was confused at first, because I thought he meant he was upset about me not coming earlier in the day. I told him I'd been busy all morning, but I would try to get there a little earlier tomorrow, and he told me, "No, no. You're fine. I mean my son hasn't come to see me yet." ... I'm his only child. I squeezed his hand and said, "Dad, I'm right here. I am your son." And he looked at me like I had two heads, before saying, "Oh, that's right... You are, aren't you?" I stuck around for another 10~ minutes afterwards, but to be honest I had to leave... I was going to break down. I just spent the entire drive home wiping tears out of my eyes so I didn't crash... I don't know what to do.

The part where the second voice comes in could be interpreted as Marceline expressing the same feelings as Simon. She is reaching out to him saying she is sorry for whatever might happen if/when she forgets Simon. This hits home for me because my grandpa suffered TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) that left a once great man with the mind of a 6 year old and a decrepit body; sometimes it is hard to remember how he used to be.

I think the crown is a metaphor for alcohol or some drug that helps treat a terminal illness, but has horrible side effects.

When I was a kid my grandma died of cancer. By the very end of her life, my siblings weren't allowed to see her. She wasn't herself anymore. She kept thinking she was a child, and that her daughter (my mother) was her mother (my great grandma). It hurt my mom so badly... it's every child's worst nightmare to have a parent look at you like a stranger. To my future children: Please forgive me for whatever I do when i don't remember you.
