I'm at the opposite end of my riding career. After 45 years of riding everything from a 175cc dirt bike to a 1600cc cruiser raher than giving up riding altogether (arthritis in knees and shoulders) I've downsized to a Rebel 300 which is a lot easier to handle and less painful. Enjoy your climb up the ladder and stay safe.

My wife got her motorcycle license last year for the first time. She is over 60 and she learned on a Honda Monkey. We both have Monkeys. We also have Honda Rebels. My wife likes her Rebel better than the Monkey because of the lower seat height. I think it's great that women ride bikes.

Not sure why or how i ended here watching your interesting review. It reminded me when i first started riding motorcycle. I started with small 125cc second hand yamaha which i only kept a month. As days went by i became more confident so i outgrown the 125cc and moved up to a suzuki savage 650 which i paid cash…I had a very big smile, it was so comfortable to ride it.. and finaly i was able to ride on the highway.. i started hanging with new biker friends but after several weeks (few months) same thing happened.. i outgrown the suzuki savage.. i then realized that what i like about motorcycle is not juste to ride it but also being cool.. it is silly and immature i know. But that was me back then.. i was only 19 years old and single. So the next year i rode the bike for another season and sold it.. i sold it because i knew what i always wanted.. but what i wanted was just too expensive for a 20 years old guy.. so for several years i had no bike at all. Kept working, saved my money to study.. went back to college and finally got a better job after 4 years of college. At 32 years old With a full time secured job i went to the dealership and bought my first Harley Davidson .. which was over 5 times the price of my suzuki. I was so nervous, nearly 12 years without riding a motorcycle.. took me like a month to relearn how to ride.. i even took a refresh course. The day i picked up the harley i asked a rider who was teacher at the motorcycle school.. to come with . He accepted and gave me a ride to the harley dealership.. on the way home people were gaving me the the thumbs up. I was so proud of my harley. The next couple of weeks i tried to contact all the people i was riding with when i was 19 and someone of them still had a bike. So i spent the whole summer riding with those guys who also had a harley. They were all older than me by atleast 15 years in age but i didn't care. That year was such a blast, we rode thousands of miles …. Anytime i came across other rider on jap bike on the road, i was still waving at them because i also started with a jap bike.. but there was one more thing i had to do, my second goal in life (if you haven,t figured out by now) was to find the woman of my life.. being a great fan of grease movies, i had to find that girl of my dream. So i started dating several girls but using my harley… and finaly after a 2 years or so i finaly found a girl which i married and got two kids with. She never really enjoyed riding on a bike but she never really told me. She never told me to sell my harley either but i knew she wasn,t a big motorcycle fan. So for her, i sold the harley. Its been 16 years since i sold the harley.. i am in the 50s now.. but i still feel im 19… in my mind. Im not sure im sharing my story.. maybe because when you outgrown a bike sometime it has nothing to do with the engine and the handle.. sometime it has something to do with your lifestyle aswell. :) right now i don't have a bike. Maybe someday i will get another harley . But wouldn't mind riding a rebel 500 but once you taste a harley, and the lifestyle that comes with it it is very difficult to not want a harley again. Dont get me wrong though.. harley are not better bike.. in fact they sux… but im not a real biker. I was just a guy who wanted to find my wife, lol

Grip Puppies really help with the vibration in the bars. Third party seats help a little, but the seat is still vibrating even with my Mustang added. Totally agree the bike is very confidence inspiring. Taught my daughter to ride on one too. You can fix the mirrors by adding some blue locktight to the threads and they won’t back out.

I've been toying with the idea to downsize my ride. Currently have a vstar 950. (which I love ) Ever since Honda introduced the new Rebels I've always liked their looks. I'm not a big guy and getting up there in age so that's why the rebel 300 appeals to me. Still on the fence. My friend says if I do downsize to get the 500. I really like the idea of being able to throw a light bike around without any effort. And realistically don't see myself doing anymore cross country rides. ( wife and I rode our bikes to BC from Ontario a few years ago ) I'm up at cottage country so speeds up here are 80 km/hr for the most part. Ideally wish demo days would come back so I could try both the 300 & 500. Good job on the video!

If you’re doing highway get the 500 or a used 750. The 300 is fine for around town and MSF course work. I learned to not grip the handles to hard/tight and let your gloves do the gripping. It will help them to not go numb as easy. Also make sure you don’t have too tight of gloves and the wrist straps aren’t so tight they cut off your circulation. Drink plenty of water so your legs don’t cramp up too lol. If you like revving and shifting the smaller bikes are more fun. Great video 👍🏻

I really want a 500cc and for my needs is the one to keep. I'm 185cm and 110 kilos and mostly would be doing 70 mphs, but sadly my budget won't allow to get not even a used one and the few that I've found are 300cc and only like 5 or 6 and still is a bit high. I think I could finance it and pay it off in 2 years bu then I could either get the 500 or 1100.
@CruisersCorner

Definitely was considering the 1100… Ended up going for the 500. I thought the 1100 was a bit overkill (would definitely be nice to have) but the $170 a month was better in my pocket for the time being. Enjoying the 500 so far much better than the 300!

I am a beginner rider looking to buy a 300 soon. You said that it was a great learner's bike but to go with the 500 if you were thinking about buying the 300. Would you still recommend the 500 for a beginner or should I stick to the 300 for now?
@CruisersCorner
@CruisersCorner 2 года назад
First of all you should sit on both bikes and see how they compare. Looking back, I would definitely recommend getting the 500 since it’s not much heavier and has better longevity as far as horsepower. I was really nervous in the beginning so I went for the 300 but after a season of riding I wished I had gotten the 500. Take it easy at the start but the 500 is definitely the way to go.
@pmh1nic
@pmh1nic 2 года назад
Ditto on the 500. As mention it's no much heavier and will be much more comfortable at highway speeds. You'll be surprised at how quickly you will outgrow the 300.

Hi there. As a beginner rider who is going through the training right now, and am heavily considering this as my first shifting bike (I have driven scooters in Europe for years). Between the Rebel or the Suzuki TU 250x. Is there any difference really in ease of riding between the 300 or the 500? Is it al down to bit more power? I think may consider going right to the 500 is all and learning into it... What are your thoughts on the shifting as well. This is the biggest obstacle for newbs like me.. I've shifted on a Metropolitan but I don' think that counts lol. p.s. you are looking hot on that bike it suits you.
