We entered this matchup into our blind sample pool because they're both higher proof wheated bourbons from two of Kentucky's biggest distilleries. Is Weller Full Proof worth the hype and the hunt? Are Rebel Distiller's Collection store picks a viable alternative? We find out.

I like this series of random blinds; I wish other WhiskeyTubers would follow your lead. I also love watching as the two of you grow your palates. I also very much enjoy that the two of you have palates that have limited Venn overlap - that helps present a more even-handed perspective on each pour. Keep up the good work!

Excellent commentary on the inability of most pours to blow out the competition - every bottle has its fan and the value of a bottle is rarely defined by its rarity. Kudos to you for reflecting this reality even though in other videos you have admitted to being as vulnerable as the rest of us to some tatering.

Your blind format really sets this channel apart from other whiskytubers, I’m really loving the comparisons. Ever thought about doing some Canadian ryes vs Kentucky ryes? Something like a blind between Alberta Premium cask strength and Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye would be interesting.

Thanks so much Jon! The blind format takes some work on the backend but we feel like it's worth it to give the most unbiased opinions possible. We don't see Alberta Premium much in our market but it does release in small amounts sometimes. We're on the lookout for it and will definitely put it into some blind head-to-heads as soon as we're able to secure a bottle. Cheers and thanks for watching!

That rebel is one of my favorite bottles. The funk it has i just love as it makes it unique and a fun experience vs the everyday bourbon profile. I just picked up the rebel cask strength,, cant wait to try it this weekend!

Fun fact: if the barrel number on your bottle of Rebel Distiller's Collection has 7 digits, it was made by Heaven Hill (for Lux Row). My bottle of the tasty stuff, bought at New Hampshire State Wine and Liquor Outlet for $45 just days late in December of 2023, has a 7 digit barrel number. Recently, Lux Row was purchased by MGP of Indiana and presumably, future Rebel DCs will be made by them.

@vibeXplorer just got one yesterday in VT it was a store pick. It has lux row on the back and says the barrel was filled on 6/21/18, Tastes nothing like what these guys got. This is the 2nd rebel I've bought that wasn't very good. First was the rebel 10 i got in NH. The rebel 100 is far better imo than either of these.

Really cool comparison. Been seeing RDC on plenty of shelves and of course hear plenty of hype about WFP (which I've never even seen). Maybe I'll have to go out and grab a bottle of RDC myself...great video as always and cheers!

I would 100% buy an RDC for 40. The one I have was just over 50 and it's not a store pick and I don't regret it, it's pretty good stuff. We do not see any Weller on the shelves in this area so if I saw a WFP store pick for less than a 100 out the door I'd be taking it home, but not over 100. Great comparison, as per usual. Cheers

I absolutely love the Rebel distiller pick from the PA state store. So much sweet caramel and no off notes. Sounds like a totally different barrel from you had. Even better since Weller in all its forms is a ghost up here.

Rebel truly is a weirdo. Rebel 100 seems to be two completely different bourbons if you let it sit for an hour... or put the tiniest splash of water in it... or forget the bottle for a while... or look at it with the wrong expression... or...

Anyone else pick up that Martin reference....DAMN GINA 😆. I loved that show. I do enjoy wheaters, but I have a sweet tooth. My brother in law just got gifted a Weller 107. I've never had any Weller products so I can't wait to try.

The Rebel cask strength store picks are available in my area for $37 .

That's awesome! The price swing on those is wild. The same store we got this one at for $39 kept it at $39 and took months to sell out of the barrel. Other stores in the area had Rebel picks for $65-70 and sold out in a couple of weeks. For $40 it's a fantastic bargain!

How long do you let whiskey sit in the glass before you start your testing? I've found during my bourbon journey that even the most proofy whiskies will calm down and a lot of that ethanol/alcohol forward notes will go down after sitting in the glass in open air for like 7-10 minutes.

We’ve found the same thing. First impressions after after a few minutes and from start to finish our filming and grading takes nearly an hour per head-to-head. Great question Red5!

For head-to-heads we only enter bottles that we own or can borrow, and honestly haven’t gotten our hands on any true LEs outside of the one bottle of George T Stagg we got in a year end lottery. That was in several head-to-heads and got as high as 8.5 for one of us. Plenty have impressed, even blind, but getting those bottles is so hard in a heavy bourbon hunter market for two non-bourbon hunters. Great question Kevin. Anything above 7 is a great score for us and we feel like LEs should easily score 7-8 points blind if they’re as special as they should be (two thumbs up on everything but retail).

I like your method of tasting blindly, the issue I have is trying to match one of your tastes to mine based on your description. If I can find a bourbon whiskey that is full of flavor with limited heat, I would get it in a heartbeat.

A little heat isn't such a bad thing though, if it's in check and balanced with the profile, at least in our opinions. It's like spice in food. Some food is hot just for the sake of being hot, but a really flavorful dish with some spice mixed in to balance it out can be a beautiful thing.

I blinded Chucks Rebel Cask Strength against Centerpoints WFP a while back and could not pick a winner nor tell them apart. Great bottle when you can get them (Rebel)
