I'll bet the girl who is the key to everything searching for the girl who is the key to everything turns out to be the girl who is the key to everything the whole time.
The film felt like a fantasy RPG where you spend the first half recruiting your party but you don’t bother to go through each of your companion’s dialogue options to max out their affinity. Your only interest is that everyone looks cool and has good stats.
it was a bit old school retro like that, now that you mentioned it. :). What you wrote made me remember an old movie in space where they did just that, and they recruited a space cowboy that could make ice out of his utility belt, loool. I wish i could remember the name though, so since I can't i will say...very late 70 and 80 Sci/Fantasy.
@@slickrick646At least Mass effect had the awareness to point out that trope. Your allies I think in mass effect 3 point out to Shephard that they're lesser used compared say to Garrus.
had the same experience. "Charlie Hunman rats them out? Never saw that one coming, oh boy!" - nobody, ever. You can already predict Devra Bloodaxe will save the day in her return in the second part, which will be equally trashy.
He literally steals the name, ship design, travel system, uniform style, and attitude of the big bad faction from Warhammer 40k and I am consistently annoyed when nobody brings that up
I spent all day watching Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. My wife’s exact words were “ I’m so glad we can still watch the good stuff”. My point is that just let them make garbage and fail while we all watch the classics.
A few days ago I watched Extraction 2, The Equalizer 3, and The Killer. All three were pretty competent and stylistically pleasing assassin movies. Point is, some new stuff is ok, and the makers of them are smart enough to know they shouldn't try competing with the classics.
I saw this movie 40 years ago. it was called Battle Beyond the Stars (basically the Magnificent 7 in space) . Done ten times better for 1/100th of the budget.
Done ten times better Can't believe you kept a straight face whilst writing that! Battle Beyond the Stars was utter rubbish! Rebel Moon's not great and has a whole bunch of problems but it ain't that bad!
Even when Hollywood creates a “new” IP, it’s still little more than another derivative “reimagining” of a sequel or remake of someone else’s story … with another girl boss.
They have got the most advanced special effects technology in history, a virtually unlimited budget, and the rights to a highly recognized property with a huge built in following, and this is the best they can do? I am missing nothing by completely checking out from new movies and shows. Nothing at all.
This felt like a TV movie you remember watching as a child and thinking it was good. Only to watch it years later and realize how terrible it really was.
Huh ? Stop embarrassing yourself , you dudes are going out of your way to try n trash this , you didn't even say if it was good or bad you just used a metaphor that doesn't make sense at all
I totally get what you mean, but even those types of movies have some value as in they weren't bombarded with subversive agenda propaganda garbage spew back then, where as now they not only suck but are also full of that so even said types of generic movies from our childhoods are amazing compared to this type of crap ya know.
For me, that was "Night Of The Comet." I saw it when it came out when I was a kid. I thought it was great. Then I rewatched it, years later, when I was an adult. but as an adult, I couldn't believe that I liked it so much when I was young.
Isn’t it weird how everyone from the movie spoke highly of the story yet nerdy geeks online who only has a hardon for Star Wars but also shits on them can’t understand actually a very simple but also deep movie LOL I literally spoke with some of the actors and designers etc at the premiere at an after party in London and they were genuinely proud of what was made. Also speaking to people that I watched it with they also liked it, people I know also like it It’s just odd that the main people that has such issues but not only has issues, they actually appear to be bitter about it that what’s said becomes hateful ramblings of nonsensical criticisms when in fact if they look at the top 20 viewed Netflix movies, similar nonsensical ramblings could be said about them, but they don’t cause it’s not in the geekosphere Man, the worst part about geek movies is the fuckin ‘fans’, you all come across so freaking entitled it’s actually disgusting. I’m not even just talking about this movie, most movies you just gather together online and shit away and moan and complain about other people, it’s fucking weird
Snyder blended everything together from so many things and it turned to be faceless and souless. He took so many things from so many fandoms and proved he is a visual guy first, writers and creator last.
@Koopyspappyoh stfu, the prequels are still better than the new trilogy and this movie combined. That trilogy gave us Darth maul, hot padme and Obi Wan Kenobi.
You forgot the poor horses with turtle shells on their faces that were supposed to be an otherworld species, but were just horses with turtle shells on their face. AND the super huge, killer, dreadnought warship, that a single man brings down by jumping on it and hitting it with a stick.
Also Sofia Boutella passing UNDER that same falling ship with a run&slide...while the ship was at least large like 30 meters...what a slide that was! :DDDD
That wasn't the big warship they came with. There is a final scene where the defeated commander is brought back on that ship, revived and talks with the Emperor.
I knew it was going to be trash going in but Snyder went above and beyond. He's evolved into something truly worthless. How much slow motion can a movie have?
All of it. The sad part is. It's bad slow mo. If he's gonna do it he should have hired the people who did the slow mo for dredd. Then at least it would look pretty.
In Snyder's multiverse, as slow as possible. Over 2 hours of just slow motion jumping over the ridge for dramatic scenery. Unfortunately, even Zack Synder realizes it is way too stupid. 🤣 🤣 🤣
It was watchable but not a big fan, the protagonist is Gamora pretty much same background: Tyrant invades planet kills her family, adopts her and trains her to be a killing machine. The rest of the movie is Seven Samurai and it's funny how i had just finished watching the Japanese film a week before watching this movie.
DAMN! seven samurai is such a...magnificent something! 3 1/2 hours on endearing characters and plot twists that let me in awe in the3 edge of my seat this is... a mediocre roleplay... a pretentious $20 RPG steam game, but is a movie
The movie is perfect for Christmas. So many people get depressed over this season, so watching this gives them hope that their lives aren't as bad as this movie.
this was a nice movie i think al the "critics" is just jumping on the bandwagon of hating this movie this was a rejected SW universe flick so just watch it with a mindset of starwars movie and personally this was better than the crap disney craps out lately
I think we are about to enter a new renaissance just based on the fact that art has become so terrible and uninspired every novice looks at it & thinks "I could do better then that!"! They have set the bar so low that it would be more of a challenge to do something worse!
@Alec_Kablam "Bread and circuses" (or bread and games; from Latin: panem et circenses) is a metonymic phrase referring to superficial appeasement. It is attributed to Juvenal (Satires, Satire X), a Roman poet active in the late first and early second century AD, and is used commonly in cultural, particularly political, contexts. In a political context, the phrase means to generate public approval, not by excellence in public service or public policy, but by diversion, distraction, or by satisfying the most immediate or base requirements of a populace, by offering a palliative: for example food (bread) or entertainment (circuses). Juvenal originally used it to decry the "selfishness" of common people and their neglect of wider concerns.[ The phrase implies a population's erosion or ignorance of civic duty as a priority. This phrase originates from Rome in Satire X of the Roman satirical poet Juvenal (c. 100 AD). In context, the Latin panem et circenses (bread and circuses) identifies the only remaining interest of a Roman populace that no longer cares for its historical birthright of political involvement. Here Juvenal displays his contempt for the *declining heroism* of contemporary Romans, using a range of different themes, including lust for power and desire for old age to illustrate his argument. Juvenal here makes reference to the Roman practice of providing free wheat to Roman citizens as well as costly circus games and other forms of entertainment as a means of gaining political power. The Annona (grain dole) was begun under the instigation of the aristocratic popularis politician Gaius Sempronius Gracchus in 123 BC; it remained an object of political contention *until it was taken under the control of the autocratic Roman emperors.* Did you know that all of the US's "Elected" Presidents have been descended from King John of England, a descendant of Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne? Only Ford, Nixon's temporary replacement, was not "elected" into the Oval Office as President. Did you know that Capitol Hill (one of seven hills upon which Washington, DC sits, like Rome) was originally called "New Rome" and owned by a man named Francis Pope? History is going to echo once more in the next few years. "God Emperor Trump" (as some people call him) will return to the White House to stop the spread of Marxist ideologies (THE MESSAGE) and bring order to the West. What is the “7 Mountains Mandate” (Dominionism/Dominion Theology)? Supposedly there are 7 “mountains” of global society-Arts and Entertainment, Education, Economy, Family, Government and Military, Media and Religion. (Note: The US voting machines are called “Dominion”.) According to this false teaching, by conquering these 7 “mountains”, the Kingdom of God will be established. Reverse psychology is a technique involving the assertion of a belief or behavior that is opposite to the one desired, with the expectation that this approach will encourage the subject of the persuasion to do what is actually desired. Hollywood, along with Liberal MSM, Corporations and certain politicians assert Marxism, the opposite of the desired goal of religious Fascism.
The music industry is the same. They are smothering the true creative artists, like Courtney Hadwin, while promoting the boring and mundane. There really does need to be a serious shake up in the industry.
Do you know what would be interesting? To have a character recruited by some charismatic plucky rebels to fight against a galactic empire only to find aa the story progresses that the empire isnt evil and that the e plucky rebels are in fact a bunch of murderos terrorists and the main character has to figure out where there loyalties truly lie. Now that would be an interesting nuanced story I would love to see.
It would have been genius if they had made Rey Palpatine the villain in Star Wars. It might not have redeemed the franchise but it would have been something new.
@@bigbutte5804 Were they though? It was so confused - the "honorable" King, Queen and Princess were (supposedly) killed and the "Evil regent" took over - but then they have preambles and flashbacks that shows the empire was already doing this same evil shit before the royal family were offed. It makes no sense. Hey, I actually enjoyed this film, but my god is was dumb as a sack of hammers. I really can't see the "Snider cut" somehow miraculously making this anything much better. I don't really understand why people would love on Fifth Element and hate on this though - they are both equally as dumb, confused and full of terrible acting and dialogue.

My sister watched this movie and these ''strong female characters'' made her cringe so hard, especially the combat scenes, my sister is 1,93m and she know full well that no matter the training, she won't be able to fight a 1,70m guy.
I'm at the point now where if I see a female lead in an action film, I'm avoiding it. 99% of the time, the character is written as a male, they act male, they're stoic, linearly driven, use violence like men, etc. And their backstory is almost complete exposition. It's so trite and derivative. I dont care how visually appealing or action-packed the story is. Women are simply not interesting to watch in these kinds of roles.

yea really I think Snyder needs a serious writer to work with him. Sort like it was with Sucker Punch, he can shoot scenes but everything is shallow and unoriginal cause he refuse to work with actual writers.

We knew sfa about him and had no reason to care, yet it's presented as something that's had an episode of backstory and this was the payoff.

I just don't understand why stories with good strong female leads never get adapted. Book series like The Lotus Wars or The Blood Heir have strong female characters that do awesome things, but aren't perfect, make mistakes, lose fights, struggle, learn new things, have male characters who aren't defenseless or useless, and don't have the female lead with no justification take on a dozen guys by themselves and girl boss it and the time that it does happen it's well earned or makes sense in the context of the universe, i.e. they had a power or took a drug. It's extremely rare though and comes with a cost, it isn't treated like a "Yass girl slay" kind of thing. Blood Heir even goes a step further in removing the girl boss power from the female lead - don't want to say exactly what happens in case anyone happens to be reading the books.
It's not about making money or good stories. It's about virtue signaling, box-checking and pitting americans against each other. They keep making this trash because they are exactly what the revolution wants.
What amased me the most about the "farmer chick" in the beginning she hit a rock and man did she struggle to move that small rock 😂😂😂and then she goes and kills giys not twice her size but 3 times her size and flip them over...... Basically the strongest object that is her weakness are rocks , when you fight her just throw rocks at her .

Ironically but with perfect timing, one of Coras’ incomprehensible monologues was interrupted by an ad featuring Robert Oppenheimers’ baffled and slightly distressed face 🥺
Charlie Hunnam's accent is fine, he sounds like he's from Belfast, the problem is his voice is very monotone, like pretty much everyone else in this movie.
“Someone we could defend with our lives” as if men need women to defend them or that women could defend anything was hilarious and typical intersectional feminism. What was even more typical was an ad for a Nicole Kidman movie where her opening lines stated how she doesn’t want to be a child bearing woman who raises a family.
As someone who uses Ai for work, you get used to how Ai writes things. And this movie has that in spades. I am pretty sure this movie was mostly written by Ai. I would explain why it feels like so many other movies and the complete randomness.
Give me 10 ideas for a space scifi fantasy movie. now elaborate on # 7. Now revise it with a big plot twist. okay, cool, now make it 5 chapters long and write it in the form of a script with the main characters as women and the men are pussies. thx see you in two months. 👍
We've had derivative, incompetent, woke movies for a lot longer than we've had "AI". Zach Snyder himself is a "machine" that churns out bad stories, and the feminist tropes that permeate this film have been par for the course in Hollywood for over a decade. When the most important considerations for your media are identity politics and leftist messaging, the plot and characters always suffer. It does resemble the uncanny valley of AI generation, but the sad truth is that this garbage is entirely the product of reprehensible real people.
Now that the Snyder Cut fever dream has passed can we finally admit that Snyder is a decent music video director that got promoted way above his ability. Snyder can only make a good movie when it is already written and illustrated for him even then his batting average isn’t great. He has always been an edgy nihilist that’s why it’s impossible for him to create an inspiring movie and characters like in Star Wars. If you were hyped for this movie that is your cross to bear.
Netflix told him to make this version for more people, then he gets his directors cut that's reported to be 4 hours. Clearly not his fault if he's told to cut it down. Same as it was with justice league, the Snyder cut was 10 times better
I agree. The man hit his peak around the time 300 and Watchmen came about. And while I could make an argument that Man of Steel was the last good movie he made, he was well on the decline.
At this point, I just skip everything featuring a strong female lead. Saves me a lot of frustration. After seeing the gay bar scene here, I'm so glad I did. Would have turned it off at that point.
The space-travelling, planet-devouring galactic empire wants food from a super-tiny village stuck in the stone-age barely visible from orbit, made exactly as much sense than the idea that the village fighting them back.
The scene where Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha finally open a bottle of Amasec that they found in Mordor was everything I wished for. ”Mr. Scott, beam us up!" as Han Solo would say.
It was like putting your favorite fandom movies into a jar, shaking it up, emptying it onto a plate, pouring some disney+ (on steroids) over it, slapping it on the ass and sendng it on its way. Such a mess!
I thought I was the only that notice he took somethings from Battle Beyond the Stars. But the only differences was the characters in Battle Beyond the Star was fleshed out. Loved Nemesis. I wish we could learn more about her.
I thought Rebel Moon was OK, but not great. However, you need to remember that I paid actual money out of my pocket to see Battlefield Earth in theaters, which became my example of a truly bad movie. Rebel Moon is uninspired, and it rips off better stuff from movies such as various Dune movies and The Magnificent Seven.
It kind of starts off decent but then mostly falls flat. Kora is ok but not great, the villain is decent but not really that memorable, most charismatic character(and most famous?) Was probably Kia but then he's killed
The storyline reminds me of A bug’s life…the ant went out to recruit warriors so they can protect their harvest and stop being exploited by the grasshoppers 😂
That storyline originally comes from Seven Samurai. The Magnificent Seven also used that storyline. You should check them out, they're both great movies.
The editing on these videos is always so good I sometimes can't tell which jokes are edited in and which are actually part of the movie. Did the wormhole taco ACTUALLY look like that?!
I'm surprised Games Workshop's lawyers haven't gone in deep on this. I mean the Mechanicum, Ecclesiarchy and the Evil Imperium of man wearing Nazi/Commy uniforms with the soldiers wearing Cadian like armour. Even a character named Belisarius, I mean one or two of these one their own is cool I mean you cant copyright names but there are a lot of similarities here.
Yeah, I got a similar vibe. We're just missing a couple of genetically enhanced gigantic superhuman soldiers in bulky armor and the franchise would go on a crusade to reunite mankind.
He heavily robbed Warhammer 40k. The ships was just battle barges but smooth instead of gothic style. I had to keep ignoring the relentless warhammer theft to enjoy the movie. I did like it though.
During the movie I would google pictures of Imperial Guardsmen, Rogue Traders etc. to show her the ripoffs. When the main character said "mechanicus" i facerolled, but then turned it off when she referred to them as the Imperium.

I just love the fact that we live in an era where people can live their childhiid fantasies. You know, you can make a movie that is based on your inner 5-year old who lists all the cool things he likes in the 10 previous movies that he saw. Only downside is that we as an audience have to watch them.
It felt a lot like "Bugs Life". Also, the opening scene shows a giant ship traveling through a rip in the universe, and that seems like an easy way to get food whenever they need it. I thought it was well filmed and the characters were well acted. Also cool to see the two actors from the GOT character. This video nails it.
I love when she's beating that bell that's not loud at all for the whole town to hear when the whole town is already there, and can barley hear the bell gong thing.

For those of us who discovered luridly covered paperback novels in spinning department store display racks, and who stood anxiously in line awaiting the first Star Wars movie, there is something subtlety horrifying about the content of modern science fiction and fantasy shows. For every Game of Thrones (at least the first few seasons) there seems to be an endless supply of Rings of Power, Willow, Robyn Hood, Wheel of Time, She Hulk and now, Rebel Moon. Gone are shows where the intent was to entertain you with imaginative story-telling and captivate you with fascinating and original world building; all that has now been replaced with soulless narratives steeped in social engineering and “critical thinking”. Mindless, formulaic drivel constructed by creatively bankrupt hacks spewing the same tedious corporate agenda. Thank goodness for the genuinely entertaining and wonderfully amusing content being produced by Gary and other influencers like him. At least something of value comes out this seemingly endless parade of garbage.
Every Leading Woman film ever.. everytime I walk into a company business, where every member of staff is female.. every shopping mall.. it's all 1% hard work, 5% usefullness 3.5% intelligence... these are the high scores they think they got. I love that scene in the boyz when the bad superman just lasers the crowd to death.. that scene is better than every leading female warrior fantasy made.. but that doesn't mean we shouldn't support them.. it is fictional fantasy afterall.. we've been subjugated to all this lgbt woke garbage for decades now..
Rebel Moon reminds me of all the B level 80s sci-fi movies that tried to ride the coattails of Star Wars. Zack is just 40 years late to the party, but at least he still managed to make it as forgettable while weaving in all the necessary woke themes for Netflix. Personally, I love how the bad guys are now modeled after Space Romans (with the same tired adopted child of the conquered grows up to lead a rebellion narrative) vs WWII Axis - so fresh and innovative.
The asian fighter condemned revenge just for the main character to use revenge as a selling point to recruit the general later, make it make sense. It's like he took every trope from space movies and fantasy and mashed them all together. The thief turning on them was predictable. I had no Idea what was happening at some moments. Like the bad guy smoking space pot to be sucked on by some octopus being, what was the point of showing us that? Being plugged in the matrix to get into a zoom call with the evil guy... I don't mind characters all having different backgrounds if the story made sense and there was some character development. I agree with the others who said that the android story was more interesting,
The dude the steals the Gryphon and rides off on it, reminds me of Slaine (From the pages of 2000AD Magazine, A Celtic Barbarian who may remind you of Conan crossed with the incredible Hulk.) and Dragon-Heist. (Where he steals the Knucker (A young male bull Dragon.) and rides off on it...
The best Synder films in my opinion will be Watchmen, 300 and even his Justice League which should've been the movie in the first place. Anything aside from that is just way too hilariously pretentious to be considered enjoyable.
Agreed. At least she has that very exotic appearance to really sell her as a member of a fringe, exotic people on a distant planet-and justify Paul’s intense and mystical connection to her. I guess Z’s appearance has some of that too but the minute she opens her mouth, it’s over for me. Probably neck-and-neck on acting range but I would like your pick so much more.
So many exact lines from Star Wars were used ..'he's not for sale' 'I'm looking for information' in the bar scene..so many characters look alike from a number of sci-fi movies..what is it are they running out of ideas or do they just steal every thing these days including lines and plots...I was expecting so much and it delivered so little.
this reminds me of everything else thats been out lately in the sci fi/fantasy genre. I got the same feeling from Wheel of time, Rings of Power, Willow, House of Dragon. They all feel like they could strangly be in the same universe some how
House of Dragon is a level above the ones you mentioned I swap it out for the Witcher Blood Origin in your list of recent sci/fantasy that all feels the same
I agree except for house of dragon my only complaint I have with hotd is the time jumps but that's mostly due to scheduling I feel it's a tier above the others
Your reviews always seem to be better than the actual film, which saves me a lot of time not having to sit around watching for 2 hours, time which I can never get back!
That's the dumbest thing ever , you're gonna let a guy who hates Snyder make you not watch a free movie ? 😂😂😂😂 Do you let him tell you what type of people to date also ? If you don't watch it you will miss some enjoyment , learn to be your own person bro
Thank you for always keeping it real. And thank you for bringing up my main complaint, the feminism and 120 pound woman beating up of a room full of men and the masculine and feminine role swapping. Not even The Drinker touched on that in his review. Keep up the good work.
You and me both. I really am running out of things to watch as I have seen everything worth watching. And for the last 5 - 10 years its all been unwatchable garbage. So what do you do when you have seen it all? I am still trying to work that out......
