The rant was 1000% more entertaining than the movie itself.

Zack Snyder should just bè a visual director, he suck hard on storytelling abilities.

Snyder is not a director, he's a cinematographer.

Snyder movies to me are like talking to a really attractive person who can't read. Not much to say, but I appreciate the aesthetic.

Screenwriting used to be a discipline where you wrote a screenplay and then you rewrote it, and then you rewrote it again… These days you either have 40 different writers each take one swipe at the same screenplay or you have a writing group, which if you’ve ever worked with one, you’ll know exactly why that never works. If you don’t know why that is, just get 6 people together in a room and ask them all where they want to get lunch from and watch what happens…

Some one summed this movie up as "Zack Snyder has seen a lot of things and tries to paste it all into one movie and fails at it."

Rebel Moon felt like one of those movies that insult your intelligence.

Every decade sees a once cool and stylish new director fall from grace. The 1990s had John Woo, The 2000s had Michael Bay, and the 2010s had Zack Snyder.

I think a better idea would be this: the people that Kora gathers to fight the Motherworld were once part of her elite squad, all of whom went into hiding after it was discovered that they did not complete a mission that went against Kora’s beliefs. Now that she is flushed out of hiding, Kora and Gunner have to recruit and save her old team before Admiral Noble finds them all and wipes them out. It’s not the best idea, but this is something that I think would have worked better.

I'm surprised you didn't mention how the Asian assassin lady had a big speach about how seeking revenge is bad then the next scene they're convincing the general guy to join their party with the promise of revenge.

Damn. You just nailed Zack Snyder in a nutshell with this one. As a fan of his I gotta say, you were right. The man needs a leash otherwise it just turns into stylized non sense.

What Zack Snyder is in the most dire need of is his own Gary Kurtz. And not having two Daario Naharises fight each other despite them both being in the movie is simply unforgivable.

I’m under the impression Zack Synder needs A LOT of help. He seems half-baked on a lot of stuff and needs others to round him out. Nothing wrong with that, some people are better on a team than on their own.

What he needs is someone mentally competent and an actually good writer. Yes I understand the points raised.

Snyder will go down in history as the man that introduced DLC to the movie industry.

Thorias basically reviewed every movie in the last 5 years and has saved me from wanting to pour bleach in my eyes.

I remember seeing the Sucker Punch trailer. It looked so bad ass and then I saw the movie. And then I saw the movie. It was so bad and the action was even boring.

Well.... This was the best Thorias rant I've seen in a long time.

I recently learned James Gunn wrote the screenplay for the Dawn of the Dead remake. It explains so much about that movie.

Something I noticed in the final fight scene, the cyborg swords woman stabs a soldier in the front while on the man's back. You never see the blades protruding from his back even as he falls to the ground even after she got off.

I feel like this is what happened when you isolate yourselves from people that disagree with your "vision" (AKA: producers, writers, etc.) and only listen to your die-hard fans on Twitter. You pretty much become a gimmick director that that makes mediocre film to pander to the 25% of the intended demographic

No you don't understand Thorias Snyder wouldn't let Snyder make the Snyder movie he wanted so he has to Snyder Cut the ruination that is Snyder's movie to make his proper real Snyder movie.

I turned this film off. I like some of Zack Synder's work but he can't really write for toffee. I watched Dawn of the Dead (2004) last night, great film. Zack's direction was great but it was James Gunn's script. 300 was great but he had other writers. Watchmen was great but he didn't have any writing credits. Sucker Punch I appreciate. I knida see where he was going for. I think he is a talented director. Writing is not his strong point.

The extended editions of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy are great, but they benefit from the fact that the theatrical versions are actually good. Ridley Scott's films also tend to get director's cuts, but he actually knows how to tell a focused story and narrative. And his director's cuts sometimes actually fix his films and are, in fact, superior (Kingdom of Heaven and Blade Runner, for example). Zack Snyder need to learn the basics of cinematic storytelling first (or have a writer and producer guide him) before he keeps going all in with releasing director's cuts to nearly every single one of his movies.

I could not watch this "movie" longer than 10 minutes... Actually big thanks to Thorias who watched it so we don't have to.

It's like the RINGS OF POWER - these Hollywood hacks can't write a believable world with a believable backstory. Sending a galactic dreadnought to terrorize a farming village would be like the U.S. Navy sending a carrier task-force to shake down a bodega owner. 🙂

Snyder was always an overrated hack. This is my opinion, but it is based on my personal experience and research. Dawn is overrated. The original is better. I enjoyed his Dawn, but it has too many elements that are so absurd it goes into Return territory. Almost like he didn't realize those were two different zombie franchises. 300 is a fun, popcorn flick but it's nearly a panel for panel adaptation of the graphic novel. Watchmen, same thing except Zack clearly missed the point of the book. CLEARLY MISSED THE POINT. However, again, a fun movie to watch. Sucker Punch was utterly disappointing and much like the rest of Snyder's work; promising, but poorly executed. And then Man of Steel. Just eff you, Zack. Eff you and your destruction porn and utter lack of understanding Superman at all. I won't even bother with this one.

I've never understood some people's obsession with the Snyderverse. As a comic reader, I hated it. Snyder basically fucked up every character he touched. The tone of all the movies were completely off from the way it was supposed to be. Not to mention, each movie was a mess except for a couple of them. They also had the single worst casting choice I have ever seen in regards to comic characters - Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor...Jr. Absolutely terrible.

This shows the very clear difference between those who want to create art(George Lucas) and those who only want to make a product(Zack Snyder). Snyder only has 2 films that were good and that is Watchmen and 300.

I am not a Snyder hater. I hate Snyder movies. If there were any doubts that the man should not be let near a script the DCEU proved it. Man of Steel could have been a good starting point for a DC universe and Superman in the hands of someone who knows how what they are doing, and he doesn't. As you said, the man is not a storyteller. He does things because they look cool or he thinks it would be cool. The writing is pretentious, characters talk to each other like a kid with action figures would have them talk, the plots make no sense, and everything is just so over the top. If there was ever a director that epitomizes style over substance it is Snyder. So many people just turn their brains off and enjoy the visuals while convincing themselves they just watched something that is better and deeper than it actually is, falling all over themselves to defend Snyder and his movies just to hold on to that illusion.

I'm so tired of "cinematic universes" lol. Just make something that can stand on its own without tons of side media and crap and loads of sequels/director cuts

I watched about 30 minutes and I had to turn it off it was really goofy and boring and try hard and the action was abysmal no blood.

Great rant man, SO on point. I'm so sick and tired of Snyder. I'll never forgive him for Man of Steel. I'm a big Superman nerd and those initial trailers for Man of Steel had me so hyped, it looked like it was going to be AMAZING and I'll never forget my disappointment leaving the theater. Snyder is just another Michael Bay who makes big bombastic spectacles on the screen with ZERO concern for writing or characters.

The back story they you say could be made into a fun movie had already been made into a fun movie. It’s called star wars from 1977

It makes sense that Snyder handpicked Mags Visaggio to write the tie-in comic for this movie. It absolutely makes sense. If game recognize game, then hacks recognize hacks.

Lemme guess, the bad guys are actually the good guys, at least allegorically. Watchmen (comic & movie) was 1 of the worst things to ever happen to the superhero medium! Man of Steel was a good movie about an alien, but it was not a Superman movie.

"Story by Zach Snyder?" It's just a rehash of Battle Beyond the Stars, which was a rehash of the Magnificent Seven, which was just a rehash of Seven Samurai. There wasn't a second of this thing that I hadn't seen somewhere else. Most of it was Dune/Star Wars/Warhammer soup, with random D&D monsters sprinkled all about. Nothing was original.

I was giving FULL blame to Snyder regarding the writing of this script...until I read interviews from his CO-writer & friend. It's Snyder, yes, but it's also his circle/team. He/they need to bring on someone who's NOT affiliated w/them AND will be hyper critical when reviewing the work.

This movie was a thoroughly bizarre rip off of elements from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, Warhammer 40k, and Gladiator all mashed together. I'm sure there are some other movies that were ripped off that I don't know or remember. Some shots are straight up plagiarism. For example, you could cut out a shot, splice in a shot from Gladiator, and the movie would look exactly the same. EXACTLY the same.

The trailers made it obvious it´s just more of the same w0ke trash. Trash with totally random, AI generated visual not-style on top of that. Hard pass. Dawn of the Dead and Army of the Dead are day and night. I love the remake of DOTD. AOTD sucks! I watched DOTD about 15 times in my life. I wouldn't dare watch AOTD again.

Snyder has done something remarkable here... He has started making DLCs for movies... Not the actual good type of DLCs that are just extra stories to add to a good honest game... No, I'm talking about the modern laziness plus greed move in which they make the game incomplete to sell the complete one as a DLC, some dark souls 2 shit... Because a complete product are for chumps... Why bother being modest and soliciting the fans for funds to make your new franchise when you can use your arrogant God complex to scam people into forking extra money for the complete version of a movie they already paid for... Snyder keeps breaking new grounds...

I’ll give you that this movie does suck, big time. But ZSJL was, in my opinion, and many others, leagues better than Whedons incomprehensible, cartoonish crap. Yeah, it could have used some trimming here and there, but, come on! Just as bad as the Whedon cut? That’s a little too much.

This whole movie is like those flash, aquaman 'teaser trailers' that were crammed into BvS. Short clips that barely touch upon a new character and story as a synopsis without going any further before moving on. Except this movie doesnt have the crutch of being a well known IP. So we actually need to learn about them. Snyder uses so much slo mo he cant fit a story into a movie runtime, thats why they are all 4 hours, not because there is a complex story. So use less slo mo or make a series. But needing more time isnt going to solve all the issues. Sword women in Alita alley fight scene knock off gives a speech damning revenge, then the next scene we in Gladiator rip off and recruit somone using revenge as motivation. The final boss fight has all he teeth knocked out, followed by him screaming at camera showing he still has all his teeth. Zero continuity for scene to scene. in visuals, character and story.

Zack is like those guys in the 80s that made there own vanity projects to make themselves the stars. Zack just has 300 million vs 50 thousand to make it, thank god his ego isn't so big he makes himself the lead. I have Netflix and I'm not watching this.

Netflix+Snyder+SW script that was rejected even by Lukasfilm. Everybody who have at least a few brain cells knew that it was a direct recipe for a disaster.

Zack Snyder is all about visuals and slapping you in the face with "symbolism" so obvious even a blind person can't miss it. Story wise he seems to have no idea what he is doing and everybody claiming otherwise are just lying to themselves. Give him a competent writer that has a good idea and let him make it look fantastic and that can work. Let him write and it will be the most generic shit trying to look smart. He has talent (even if his tool set seems limited to slowmo most of the time) but he has a specific talent and isn't somebody who can do everything. And this proves it, it is the most generic concepts we've seen plenty of times way better. It also feels like the first half of the ocean franchise without the heist but less interesting. The evil Empire is also done to death and not original in any way. How about the empire being the good guys or even more out there it being neither good nor bad but shades of gray? Empires historically rarely were evil tyranical dictatorships but normal countries/governments like many others. Every idea in this movie feels like the most boring and least fleshed out, worst idea you could imagine. It's not even funny bad but mostly boring bad. It's even weirder how many hardcore defenders he has. Has he made good movies? Yeah a few but be honest most of his movies aren't actually good. They look nice but if you even scratch the surface you'll notice they are really really flawed (even the snyder cuts). Also why does he always make a supposedly good movie but the released version is supposedly so much worse. Why would anybody do that instead of releasing the good version?

That's exactly how I felt about this movie. I couldn't even finish it. It's like Snyder sees some pretty visuals in his head, but doesn't know how to put them together in a logic sense.

Well, the universe was interesting. The story was boring.

Somehow we are suppose to believe that she is a super soldier that can beat multitude of men in hand to hand combat and she is like a 100 pounds and 5.5 feet tall.

Sucker Punch was excellent. Rebel Moon was bad because of Netflix imo. I didn't think it was awful, and needing it to keep you interested, it won't give you the whole thing like you'd like. I think saying he is not a good writer or story teller is completely wrong.

I watched Army of the Dead; I had little hope for this one.
