one youtuber asked why someone created gauntlets that required the wearer to chop their arms off first? you could argue that they were designed for someone who had no arms but we all know Zack Snider, a guy who doesn't know how gravity works, not even instinctively despite living on earth more than four decades, would not have thought of that.
The worst thing that happened to Snyder was him getting his Justice League Snyder Cut released. This gave him a huge Ego and gave him way too much clout because he has given us nothing but drek since.
The reason this movie feels like a bunch of concepts thrown together is because it is. Snyder literally watched other movies, took what he thought was cool and threw it into his script without understanding why the cool stuff worked in other films. Totally agree with you on why a concept used in Seven Samurai, Magnificent Seven and A Bug's Life works in those movies, but not in Rebel Moon. Said as much in my first RM video. The fact that Snyder has Noble disregard the grain once he knows the Scargiver is on his ship just shows it wasn't all that important to begin with, so why the dreadnought didn't immediately open fire on the village makes the empire look incompetent and unable to problem-solve a very simple task.
Completely agree. It's one thing to take inspiration from movies you enjoy but going a different route with it; it's another to copy a bunch of scenes from other movies but adding in more blood, sex, and slow-motion.
@@thomaswrites Yup, there's nothing of substance, just degraded copies of greater works. Oh, I am one of those people who said part 2 is worse than part 1, mainly because I didn't hate Tarak and Kora in part 1, but i sure did after watching part 2. Tarak especially, that guy let him mom jump all the while telling the rest of the team he was robbed of the chance to protect her.
Have to agree with you Thomas, I like quite a few of Snyder's movies as well. He has done some terrific stuff, but it seems these days. Well I am reminded of the line from Top Gun, 'Your Ego Is Writing Cheques Your Body Can't Cash!' To create Rebel Moon Snyder and his writers steal....I mean borrow from a dozen different sci-fi books and movies and ended up creating a steaming pile of stuff that comes out of the south end of a north bound cow. I very much doubt six hours of director, R rated cuts of the two movies will be better. As for you being a paid shill for Disney, come on sir come clean. I remember seeing those gold plated Mickey Mouse ears on your book shelf in your earlier videos!🤣 Excellent review of this Snyder train wreck sir, well done!
I wanted t add do your comments on the necessity of Director's Cuts. Typically the whole reason for their existence is to complete a movie as the director would have originally intended because they were unable to, usually because of studio mandates; cutting violence to secure a lower age rating, reducing runtime to allow for more cinema screenings in a day, changing story elements in the response to test screenings, etc. There's no way Netflix did any of that, there was no reason Snyder couldn't have given audiences his definitive version straight out of the gate. The original cuts of both Rebel Moon movies are made for absolutely no one.
"Du et. DOO EET! Kill hur!" What is it with that delivery? You say "Irish accent". To me, it sounds like Jackie Chan trying to replicate English dialogue phonetically despite not speaking English.
This film doesn't have a DP(director of photography), or i should say, Zack Snyder is both the overall director and the DP. This might explain some of the problem.
The Extended Cut of Aliens is actually an objectively worse version of the Theatrical cut. A lot of what it adds is padding, but the addition of footage of the colony from before they discovered the Hive completely kneecaps the story. Aliens derives a tremendous amount of tension from dropping the Marines into a situation that neither they nor the audience understand, putting us all in a position of having to figure out context. By explaining that context beforehand, you render half the movie pointless because there's no more suspense.
The robot took out one of those walkers by itself. Where was it while the battle was raging and people were dying? And the guy running towards lasers while holding 2 axes? Garbage!
I guess we'll need to wait until the extended cut to see Jimmy's spiritual journey in the woods and understand why he joined the battle at the last moment...😆
I didn’t mind part 1 but part 2 went downhill fast. Action could be cool but I didn’t care about anything that was happening. With 4hrs of screen time Snyder still failed to get me attached to these characters. I was just bored. I’m done with this franchise now. Great review!
I applaud Zack Snyder for what he tried to do, i.e.: Disney wouldn't let him do a Star Wars story, so he made his own with Blackjack and Hookers. However, it just wasn't done very well. Another example would be Seth MacFarlane, who essentially did the same with Star Trek, so he made "The Orville" instead. Difference is he understood what made Star Trek good, and did his own version with that in mind. Frankly, I would like to see the R-Rated 'Snyder Cut' of both movies, maybe he will go back and re-film sequences taking all the critiques of these versions into account.
I think the Orville comparison is a good one. I am hoping the directors' cuts are better, but unfortunately I think Seth MacFarlane is a generally better writer than Snyder when it comes to honage/parody.
It makes a lot more sense in Mad Max given the over-the-top heavy metal tone of that movie. It also is played more for comedic effect rather than dramatic effect.
