The 2017 Rebel Session is a one-day video and photo shoot session for 20 local and 5 international invited big wave surfers at Dungeons, Cape Town.
This years waiting period runs from 18th July till October 31st with the session being called on the best day forecast.
When the day’s carnage is over, competing surfers put in their votes while a panel of judges review footage and photo’s to award prize money in four categories:
Dedication R50 000- the surfer who performs best throughout the session
Inspiration R25 000- the surfer who rides the biggest and meanest wave of the day
Motivation R15 000 - the rookie pushing their limits hardest
Consequences R10 000- for the worst wipeout of the day
In keeping with the Sessions motto of “by the locals for the locals”, this year Rebel is partnering with the Cape Town NSRI as they celebrate 50 years of saving lives and Waves-For-Change, a surf therapy group helping youth cope with stress and trauma one wave at a time.
Theres a frothing bunch of big wave chargers just amping to showcase their fearless big wave skills at heaving Dungeons, and all indications are that this winter the Cape of Storms is going to deliver!
