Reborn with Me! Part 4a: Mottling Lifelike Reborn Baby Skin 

Kim, I am also a Kim lol. I love your tutorials. I have been a "Jack of all trades, Master of none" for years. I too started with paper dolls then went through a variety of mediums through the years. I recently discovered reborns while looking for a unique doll for one of my nieces. I was amazed and instantly felt like this was meant for me to try. It combines all my many abilities. I am perfectionist, so I tend to do a lot of research and fact gathering before I launch myself into a new hobby or idea. Out of all the videos I have watched, yours have been the most informative and easy to understand. I like the special attention you pay to the dolls. Those little details that make the doll so life like. So many of the videos I have watched have neglected those small areas (sweet spots as you call them) that really bring any art to life. I have seen so many dolls that were to red, purple, pale, or blue. Your dolls are right on target. I love them. Before watching your videos I was starting to wonder if I should even attempt this art form. I am a visual person and learn that way as well. After watching a few of your videos I knew that it was possible for me to create a life like doll. I have had the Avery kit for about a week and am planning to start the reborning process today. I know this is a long comment, but I just wanted to say Thank You. I know lots of artist do not want to share their talent.....but for those like you who have ....the reborning art will continue to grow. Thanks again for your tutorials. Your tutorials will always be my go to for any information and instructional guidelines I need. You are one of my favorite artist and I look forward to any videos you will be adding in the future. Hopefully one day in the future I will be lucky enough to purchase one of your dolls for myself. I bought my first reborning kit last year. I also bought a nuwave and a test part. I was not happy with the results of my test and the tutorials with the kit was for caucasian babies... but I bought an ethnic kit (there was a "booklet" but it was poor quality). Long story short I felt jaded and discouraged, so I have not painted the doll yet. Your videos have re-inspired me to get back at it Thank you!

I used blue (acrylic) to vein straight to the vinyl & wasn’t happy with it, so I used nail polish remover & it came off!! Not sure about genesis paints, but acrylic is removable.

I'm a newbie and wow! I have learned a lot by watching every one of your videos step by step. I do have a question though, I bought the bountiful baby pre-mixed heat set paint kit #1- #8 and want to make the "dirty purple" color however I don't have the regular red color. I have vein blue but that's it. And at this time I am unable to purchase the red. How can I get around this and somehow make this dirty purple color?? Thank you Kim you have taught me a lot ....Jen

Do you bake after every layer or do you let it dry, do another layer, let it dry and then bake it? I'm binge watching your videos. they are so amazing. I've watched I don't know how many tutorials on how to paint a baby for beginning but yours is by far the most straight foward. I love how you made it a series instead of a whole program because that can get frustrating when you are looking for a part and have to fast foward through the whole thing, whereas here I can just pick what part I want. thank you in advance

Hi Kim, love your videos. I wanted to know is base coat,and flesh tone the same ? and how many layers of mottling should be done.

These videos are absolutely amazing! I have a question for you... do you use the crappy sponge to apply the mottling then do you use another sponge to dry it out like after the base coat? Or do you just evenly spread it with a brush? Thank you!

Hi! I am going to be starting my first kit soon with Realborn Lavender. I noticed you use blue, red etc for mottling is this the best way to do it? I think some people do yellow too? What is the best way to determine what colors you should use for mottling?

Shouldnt it be mottled with more of a purple color instead of blue? I mean ive been reborning since 2003 and all the classes i took taught us with a purple color, infact GHSP has a color called mottled purple but this is from a few years ago so they couldve changed it since then..i guess things change and ill have to relearn it lol

I seriously love your videos, and your work. You’re such a great teacher, it comes naturally to you. Can you make videos with no background music, I find it distracting to what you’re saying. You have a gorgeous and clear voice, the music seems to be fighting for first place instead of your voice. Is it just me? I don’t want to disrespect your videos in anyway, I just find it hard to pay attention over the music. ♥️

I am interested in using reborn doll painting techniques on my masquerade masks (these would be adult masks with a lifelike look). I don't intend to heat set anything. Would these same techniques work well using watercolors or gouache? I have acrylic paint as well. Thanks!

Is there any way to recover it when you put the blue on too dark? I have tried to use a darker complexion on the baby, but the blue still shows way too much.

I want to attempt this on an Ashton drake to make her look more realistic. I love her sculpt but I'm more into realistic reborn's has anyone tried this on an Ashton Drake and has anyone tried this with air dry acrylic?

Couldn't I just use a sea sponge or regular sponge for mottling so i don't have to pluck holes in the cosmetic wedge?
