Very Nice build Idea. But you couldn't get 1200 Watts from that even if God was vexed. The Power Supply transformer is too weak. First that single 25 amp bridge rectifier needs a heatsink and a big one and you need MOV's for the caps, and maybe a PTC for the start up, inductors on the B+ and B-, or just forget the linear PSU, and get a good SMP. The power Amp itself is ok, but heatsink too small for continuous long period operation, and NPN's should be separate heatsink from PNP's, but your setup could work with two more side mounted heatsinks on the long sides. You need a speaker short(Burnt) timer circuit with thermal cutoff (Thermocouple can go in the center of the main heatsink) all working on one main relay for main amp cutoff, and speaker connections, that is a simple 3 transistor circuit anyone like you can build. Then you will have about 1200 watts peak, w/60% or so duty cycle, with protection. But all in all Very good build. Thumbs up!

As an engineer and electronics tech for 30 years I can vouch for this design... 1200 watts is totally achievable and the idiot comments on this thread are awesome. It may not be pretty but I enjoyed watching him butcher this amp.

i don't know how rms and real watt calculate for audio system class AB . but I know for sure that to cool down real 1200W power supply you need a (50cm x 50cm x 5 to 10 cm ) and you need to a good quality thermal heat paste and an enuff space between MOSFETs and very good connections. and a supper air cooler fan can dissipate 1200W heating

Amplifiers with parallel transistors that have not been matched for their beta value tend to randomly self-destruct when running at high power...

The dimensioning is far off, 1.2 kW is just not happening. Your transistor stage might have the ability to handle such power - but with solders like that all over the place, serie-resistances alone will prohibit it. Also - Running it at +/- 80V, even with a rail-to-rail output, will only allow for an 800W output into 4 Ohm or 400W into 8 Ohm.

Wires and psu are too small to drive at 1200 watts, so until you can improve on those, I can't say its 1200 watts. But it looks nice. Also looks easy to mirror for a stereo setup.

Lastly, with so much exposed wiring, You can get a "healthy" zap. Did you know that a DC voltage of around 65V or higher can give a serious burn in not a fatal shock?

1200 watt speaker is more important, than 1200 watt amplifier. If you dont have compatible speaker to drive whats the point of making high power amplifier. Try to include speaker information required for this amplifier next time.

As a concept that does not pretend to quality, it may well be. 1200W with this amplifier is not available. Even if to bring to it +/- 95v. Even on 4 ohm. Probably the physics at school was badly given. ))) There are three power standards in the world: RMS, DIN & PMPO. That's probably the last standard and was the reason why there is 1200W. ))) The number of 1943/5200 does not determine the power, but only improves the linearity.

1200W for 7 couples of 2SC5200/1943? 400W is what you get. You can't consider only TDP of 125W (that is measured for little time at 20°), or working voltage. Such power require a great dissipation, and you can't get more than 55-60W per couple (working temp of 50-70°).

I can send them from the uk to america for less than 10 dollars. using a courier. all they do is swap the delivery cost and the actual cost around, you pay 2 for the delivery and 18 for the boards..

1000W PMPO maybe, the output resistors are very high value. so 250W rms?. Take the commercial A400 80W? amplifier; it uses 0.5Ohm output series resistors thru 2 sets of totem poles, this has 100 Ohm; you would get massive voltage losses in the output resulting in very poor linearity; not a design I would use for serious Audio.
