I picked up a rear door for the Lexus IS 250 so lets get it on the car and see how it fits. I also pulled the dog leg and rocker panel off of my parts car so it will be ready to install. It appears the damage is not as bad as I had anticipated.

HeyVehcor, Good to see you back Scot. I was really worried a couple of weeks back when you missed a week, but I suspect you just spent the whole week in a Jacuzzi full of Haters tears, as they kept on coming. Man, you make it all look easy. We're still battling flat pack furniture this end!! Happy Easter to you all! Great thanks

Tell you what, Scott. Not only have I picked up a few of your names for things, but I've also learned a thing or two about replacing body panels. I recently had my Mazda 3 rejected on its yearly inspection for rust in the window frame fascia. To explain further, the early BK model had an ill-fitting door seal that allowed water and dust to get down between the inner and outer skin of the window frame - and we all know what happens then. The thing is that it's not structural by any stretch of the imagination, but because the rust bubbles were within 150mm (6") of the door hinge, the inspection gnomes considered it was close enough to affect the structural integrity of the rear door on both sides. Because said reason for rejection is in the Inspection Gnome's Book Of Acceptable Reasons for Rejection, there is no arguing with them - even though the picture in the book shows that it refers to rust on the same vertical plane as the hinge, not on the other side of the door on a plane differential of 90 degrees, on a dress panel of very thin steel. Anyhow, I had never replaced a panel before, but watching you put doors on and take them off again and looking at how the Mazda's door attached, it was actually quite a simple process. One of the doors wasn't quite 100% as it seemed to be dropping down off the striker when the door was opened. Like the Lexus, the bolts to the door itself from the hinge were self-aligning and all the bodylines, gaps and trim matched up when the door was shut. It was therefore easy to deduce that the hinge(s) were not sitting quite right, back the bolts on the B-pillar off a touch until the new door moved the hinges to where it wanted them to sit and then tighten them up again. All done and problem solved. A year ago, I would never have attempted it without much procrastination and worry that it would all go wrong, but I knew what had to be done, knew how easy it came apart, had seen it done many times, knew to balance the new one on my leg (sorry - my portable door stand) to get the first bolt(s) in and knew how and where they adjusted. I'm rapt out of my little tree, mate! So, thanks heaps for keeping the content and humour coming each week and showing me how easy it really is to replace something on a modern vehicle. It is certainly something I am very grateful for - and also in a practical way! All the best.

Skim coat of bondo on the fenders and cab corners and a little sanding and some primer and it was good to go. Only had to last 6 months while my "good" truck was being fixed but here it is 4 yrs later and still looks fine ...for a beater.

We work to 1/32" there. The chalk line is 3/16" wide FFS. If I want to be really accurate I'll use a box cutter blade so my line is .001" wide.

Scott, thanks for the great videos. I have a question about wheel bearings. My van was hit in the left rear. We've since had the vehicle "repaired" by the local Dodge dealer's body shop. Hopefully I will never have to visit them again. Since I drove home after being hit, the left wheel has been noisy when making right turns at highway speed. Is is possible that the bearing was damaged when the other vehicle struck the van. The crash happened because the other driver pit maneuvered me by hitting the center and rear driver's side of our 2013 Grand Caravan. Part of the "repair" was bringing in a wheel repair specialist to fix the damage to the surface of that left rear wheel. I noticed two weeks ago that the shop never installed the bumper pushpins for the left rear side. Quoting you, "someone's been here before." It's been one thing after another since we got the van back. I've been fighting both the body shop and insurance to get everything resolved but they say it's "pre-existing" damage. Dave

Why haven't you stripped them while you are using them to fix the ( check gap / check alinement ) other parts?
