I am putting my dream new workshop to the test by continuing to rebuild my forgotten #Yamaha #YZF1000R #Thunderace. In this upload we finally manage to complete the engines top end rebuild and finally install the engine into the frame of the bike.

Please keep giving Matt ammo, It's funny and everyone wins. The newbies learn and the oldies can pat each other on the back. You definitely have a secret weapon in Nicole. Well played Rye.

Make sure you have a good ground in between the engine and powder coating on the frame or you won’t get spark.

Hi, a reminder for everyone. When the camshaft bolts are reassembled, a precise tightening sequence must be followed, this applies to any engine. Always check your motorcycle/car service manual. Source: two weeks of work on my Suzuki GSR 600 2006 :)
@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 9 месяцев назад
It does apply to any engine, but he is lucky this engine has eight camshaft caps, less likely to crack one than on an engine with only two. But we all must always follow the sequences to be sure not to cause damage, even when removing them, and the head etc.

hey man ! Love new work shop! Love seeing your mrs too! I suggest proper sparkplug sockets over deep socket. They are basically the same but have rubber to help grab. Also try find the factory service manuel and print off some pages of the engine section. As it will have symbols which tell you what parts to oil/grease and with which type of oil or grease. Even on tells you which bolts are locktite / require locktite! Just love engines in general and watching you learn is really fun and gives me motivation for my own projects :)
@BikesofRye

I am 50/50 this was a spark plug socket... I will double check it has the rubber. I do have a magnet though so maybe that will be a substitute if not

I notice you picked up silicate type anti-freeze at Halfords. Please double check because I reckon for your motorcycle it should NOT contain silicates, as these can be bad for your seals, same goes for phosphates in anti-freeze. Propylene glycol is considered about the most reliable solution for motorcycles. Those are organic acid technology (OAT) coolants as used in newer motorcycle models. They use organic acids as rust-prevention additives. If not using pre-made coolant mixture (i.e. a self mix), make sure that you use distilled water and not tap water. The solids inside of tap water could corrode the inside of your engine. Plus, the quality of tap water varies depending on your location. Distilled water is always the best choice if you are using it inside of your engine to mix with motorcycle engine coolant.

@@BikesofRye 👍😊 Once you've bottomed out what is best to use, maybe worth mentioning what you eventually use as part of the build, because I watched another video of a RU-vidr restoring a water cooled Honda motorcycle and he'd to soak the cylinder barrels in some kind of central heating system solution (I think it was), in order to get all the gunge loosened for flushing out, due to wrong coolant type used over several years.

Half-way through the engine install the oil filter suddenly appears on the engine. The engine is then dropped a couple of times onto the oil filter junction putting a lot of shock and strain on that area which it is not designed to take. I would be double checking everything in that area with the filter removed as the last thing you want is an oil leak anywhere around there on start up. Hopefully you dodged a bullet....
