After removing and beginning the door panel recovery process by removing the old (and to be reused) vinyl and starting the cutting process, this week we begin the reassembly of our Fairlane door panels. We'll give tips on using router bits on a high speed cut off tool, how to set up panels for gluing, and what glue to use for best adhesion. We also cover some things we have discovered while moving forward on the American Autowire install.
Thanks for watching!

Doing this on my old Jaguar the 'trimmers' cut pies in the fabric corners to get a nice flat fit. Enjoying this video!

We will do what are called (in my area) pie cuts in the vinyl to curtail bunching.

I’ve found Total Boat Penetrating Epoxy the best solution for restoring old cracked, broken door cards or constructing new ones. The penetrating epoxy is absorbed into the fibers of the door card waterproofing and strengthen the cards. I also use the same epoxy with fiberglass mat to strengthen the attachments points. You can also use Fiberglass weave to rebuild corners…. As a final touch I use a marine top-side paint to make it all look nice and offer more protection.

We like Gear Vendor, super nice product. And we really appreciate the input! We'll look into doing something like that in the future.

Good tips all Zaraak! We've personally had mixed success with the masking tape. We think it might depend on the panel board. We've never used the paint stir stick idea, we'll have to do that on the passengers door panel.

When you're working with the door panel backing, to prevent the back side of the panel from blowing out when you drill, set the panel on top of a sacraficial piece of wood and drill through into the sacraficial wood. It supports the panel and prevents blowout.

drilling through a panel into mid air will break out the panel on the back when the drill pops through ..use an old board or plywood to lay your work on as a backing to drill into so as not to break out

Question I have a 72 coronet custom and need to rebuilt the door panels, how do you remove the top window seal to release the vinyl ?

If you want to avoid having the drill bit 'breakout' on the back side of the panel, drill half way through the front then drill in from the back.

Stew-Mac has a dremel router base attatchment to steady you bit.

cut the staples down with a pair of tin snips (while there in theyre block form)........got the tip off some other guy on utube doin a similar panel resto.

This looks like 1/4" staples would work (the T-50 kind). I think they even make a 3/16" staple. I wish these guys were my next door neighbors. I could take them salmon fishing and they could help me work on my car. That's me in the photo with a 30lb king salmon jumping behind the boat. My boat. Taken by my wife from our deck next to the Kenai River. 1Acre - two cabins. For sale.

You can also prevent blowing out the backside of your whiteboard when you drill through it by clamping a small piece of scrap wood to it on the back side of where you're drilling.

What material are you using for the backer board? I have some high density fiberboard I’m looking at using.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod Год назад
That could work. Lowe's calls it white board
@TJ-lh4pr
@TJ-lh4pr 3 года назад
When you drill or use the hole saw, if you put a piece of scrap wood on the back, and drill right into the scrap, you won’t blow out the panel on the back side.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 3 года назад
Learned that too late...LOL
@fishypictures
@fishypictures 2 года назад
Easier than that, on soft material, plastic, particle board ect. Just run your hole saw in reverse. It takes a little longer but it doesn’t blow out and the finish is clean.

You guys should find someone with a C-4 trans in their mustang and want an overdrive and rather than a T-5 install recommend a Gear Vendors. and offer to install it for an episode. I think Gear Vendors is a great unit overall. 6 speed semi auto or 4 speed fully auto.

Greeting. What material is it? that blue one? is it some plastic fabric? Is there a special name and are they still being produced? Thank you!
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 3 года назад
The two door panels are still produced you can get them here: www.autokrafters.com/ The panels are plastic with a open cell foam backing to give them a puffy look and feel. They are originally heat sealed to the fiber board.

@@AutoRestoMod Thanks for the reply but I am primarily interested only in the material that is glued to the board. which gives color to the panel. it’s kind of like artificial leather but it’s not. something else. Do you know what that material is?

Can you show us how to do sheet-metal door panels like on the Oldsmobile I think it was the gray car in the beginning of Tokyo drift. Pleas and Ty

observation: These guys are hack. 18v/ 24v drill for a simple hole? geesh. Get out a smaller 12v drill. No common sense to prevent "breakout on the rear side. Pinewood Derby kids know better. Then an unorganized wall back drop? This screams half-a$$ed.

Well...that's like....just your opinion man. Come over and show us how you'd wow the crowd with your expertise and pinewood derby knowledge. We'll be waiting.

Lousy Observation. Blow out caused by not supporting back of panel while drilling through. Ex. Sacrificial board behind panel while drilling.
