0:39 Sim racers are much the same as race drivers. The difference is in budget for the most part (at least for me). That said, I'll gladly put $5K into a ridiculously immersive sim rig (from PC to motion rig) and drive incredible cars at legendary tracks in a virtual setting, without batting an eye when someone criticizes it. If I had a real car, I could spend that in a month depending on how my sessions go. I'd love to have the means to do it, but sim racing makes more sense financially. And usually people are interested when I tell them I sim race. 2:19 That's my biggest reason for the passion I have for sim racing. It translates. I would highly advise mounting the DD to something abit thicker, you'll probably be losing a lot of detail through the mounting plate, atleast something as thick as the CSWv2.5 angle bracket. My DD2 twisted a 3mm plate during a pretty nasty crash in iracing o o;; So yea, if you want to safely use a DD, please make a thicker mounting bracket! > < also tip for mounting wheels, make sure to tighten the big ass fastener abit first so its pressing against the rubber prior to slipping the wheels QR onto the DD shaft, then tighten. That way the rubber wont get pushed back when putting a wheel on and its also nice and snug, my DD2 has zero slack, so no wiggling of the wheel.

You will get much more fidelity when you figure out how to minimize the flex your wheel is getting from the rig stiffness. It is dampening the "feel" you get from the direct drive. You can see the base move so much. I think once you get that sorted it will be a huge benefit. My DD1 felt much better when I got rid off all the flex from my wheelbase mount.

After the initial lengthy rant was over this video gat very interesting, and I say this because in my meager budget of Pennie’s a day, I too am constantly upgrading my system. I don’t do racing (get dizzy) but I do the “truck simulator” thing. Initially I started out with a basic old run down table. Now I have a a comfortable set up and a trucker’s seat that’s out of this world. Yeah, so I can see this gentleman’s effort paying off. Great video, once it got going.

only thing i can think of is i would probably put the button pad on the other side of the wheel if it fits in front of the handbrake. kinda like if it was a center console of a car.

My RSeat S1 alacantara, and new PC ate up a lot of my budget, but still ended up with V3, and CSL Elite wheel. The Fanatec low budget wheel is way better than the old T300. I will get a bigger rim for the wheel base, because all I do is dirt oval. Did I mention my Vive Cosmos? Almost forgot. It’s a game changer. Nothing like being able to look off into corners.

Gotta try to get rid of that flex on the wheel deck and the forcefeedback will feel way better. Strong rigs will improve every input, especially pedals and the wheel.

Ive got no choice but still im loving my Playseat Challenge with a G920 bundle,having said that,i just cant imagine what a great time you have with this.

Apart from pedals and vr headset there is literally no way to improve this simrig (well the flex is a bit much) this is a Ferrari among simrigs and still cheaper than 10k $

That's over 2k in this setup alone, not counting previous cost on wheels, pedals, shifter and ebrake. True dedication right there, and no kick back from Fanatec either, I'm surprised he didn't reach out and see if they might sponser the video.

Setup is very personal. I mounted my handbrake to the shifter (same gear you have). The handbrake mounts with a forward rake and is to the left of the shifter so it's between the wheel and the shifter. This allows for minimal movement. It mounts with the stock hardware

*HEY TAYLOR, PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT* - As someone who transitioned from a CSW V2 to a DD1 back in April, I've learnt that the biggest difference is all in the drivers. Please please get the latest beta drivers if you haven't already, there's extra features and settings that aren't included in the latest official drivers and it makes a BIG difference. For a start, beta driver V356 gives you more FFB resolution increasing it from 8-bit from the previous drivers (including the official drivers) to 16-bit. That's a huge improvement there. There are also new DD Tuning Menu parameters called LIN (Linearity), INT (Interpolation), & NIN (Natural Intertia), the last two I find myself messing with and trying all the time. Natural Inertia (NIN) "simulates additional weight on the steering axis" and Interpolation (INT) is "similar to the ‘Reconstruction Filter’ on OSW/SimuCube) filters and smoothens the incoming rough game FFB signal and increases the refresh rate." They've also improved the calculations of some of the effects and lastly the biggest improvement for us drifters is the "Improved latency of FFB effects going to the motor by ~20%" which again increases the responsiveness of the wheel for countersteer. I cannot stress enough how important it is to download and install these Beta drivers. I would have considered the Inverts and the actual hydro you had to be much better than what you've just done. My next step in my system is to get rid of the Clubsport Handbrake and build a full hydro with a master and slave cylinder so I'm confused why you went back to the Fanatec Handbrake

Love my DD2. This guy isn't joking about the force on these things. I go from that same NASCAR wheel to formula wheel occasionally and EVERY time its a wake up call to respect its power lol. 270 mm to 350mm is huge difference in force. I went from a CSW 2.5 to a DD2 and the 2.5 was a toy by comparison.

If you have 3rd to 1st gear miss shifts with the Fanatec shifter, it’s the sensor spacing. Basically the side to side sensor inside the shifter needs to be shimmed out a couple mm. That fixed mine for good.

I remember playing gt2, leguna seca in and ruf, favorite track and car. If you wanted to drift then the Shelby cobra. Tire smoke through out the whole track!

If you want a read sim rig base you get a simrigs exodus 8040 aluminium channel rig it is the best you can get. Get rid of the mangy crap seat too, get a real one like a sparco or recaro.

Hey man! You should check out the OpenVR plugin for OBS, lets you directly capture the headset instead of having to window/game capture the viewport. I know you don't do these kinds of videos often, but figured I would mention. Better quality and smoother in general. Also, would love to see a "race with fans" livestream sometime!

@Taylor Ray, I don't drive or drift, but imo the amount of motion your racing bucket seat is moving seems somewhat unrealistic, especially when going sideways but since you drifted before, if you have time... Can you give me your opinion of what you think of your sim setup to your drift setup?

Although I cant afford to do these elaborate Sim setups and rigs, I do admire what you guys can do to make Simulator driving and racing more realistic and fun to do. I was curious what you used for displays for driving, and I see you do VR like myself. I dont do your style of racing, but I do different styles of racing (Karting, F1, and Indycar). I raced real gokarts when I was younger. thanks for the video.

all the decent tracks are 45min+ away and ive been looking vr setups to play corsa instead of having to leave to the track after school to make it to events, and i think this is the way to go.

I love my Fanatec stuff; I even had their much more basic wheel and pedals for the original x box. I think it was called the speedster 3? Still in the closet waiting on my daughters to get big enough to drive!

You are not crazy! It is good practice to do a simulator! The military uses them all the time, I did before I retired. Let me know if you want to get rid of your old stuff. I am now disabled and can't street race anymore so I would love to do a simulator.

I've had your old setup in my basket on the Fanatec site for months (pre rona) but never pulled the trigger because i couldn't decide whether i'd regret it and wish i'd have gone with the DD1. I think i'll be saving the extra peas to get the DD1. Until then ill be rocking the faithful G920 haha

Not sure if you know this or not. But the handbrake can be bolted right up to the shifter on the side theres slots that you add these nuts to it that comes in thr packaging that allows you to add the handbrake to either side of the shifter.

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. Know this is old but i'm building a rig currently and like the concept of knowing it can make you a better irl driver if done properly.

You need a Aluminium extrusion Rig that you can fab up to your motion rig. It will make it way stiffer and therefore the motion rig can deliver finer details to you and you wheel wont flex on top of also being capable of providing finer detail to your hands.

Idk how many other people want this too, but I would love to get some sim racing or drifting vids with a cabin cam like you in normal driving vids but also a pedal cam too if possible. Idk I just feel like that could make a sick vid but I know you’re also really busy with the irl cars
