6900xt is stronger than any Nvidia card now even the 3090, with recent driver updates and only costs 1500 and not 3000. It's easy to say AMD is the goto atm.

Man I just got a CSL DD recently and it blew my mind how good it feels. 100% recommend it to anyone thinking about using it for drifting.

Ordered mine in September 2021, just received it in March 2022. Still waiting on some other bits to get it up and running, like new vesa mounts, leveling feet for my monitor stand, and a new wheel mount for the Trak Racer TR160 I got used(paid $750 for TR160 and free standing Trak Racer monitor stand, pretty fucking insane deal).

Huesinkveld Sprint pedals are great! I moved up from a previous set of custom loadcell pedals and the difference was night and day. There is a reason why Huesinkveld has been the benchmark for a while. Congrats. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your drift build! Keep up the awesome content!

Heck yeah Taylor! I picked up and reviewed the Heusinkveld handbrake several weeks before you dropped this vid and I’ve been enjoying it. I’ll probably get their pedal set in the future too. Also +1 for LFS having the best “tires on doors” simulation. Grazing the lead car in AC sometimes turns out okay, sometimes punts them. LFS handles it properly with body deformation 👌🏻

The real problem with Assetto is that most of the actually good mods aren't publicly available. Your best bet is spending a few years in the modding scene and putting together your own mods. A tough ask for most people, but for me it's worth it.

Sprint pedals have ladcell in all pedals, love my set :D also recently got a DD wheelbase(SC2 Pro). you are now making me consider upgrading my ebay handbrake at some point, but I need a sturdyer rig first :D Love seing more sim content *thumbs up*

Those pedals are so sick! Replacing your Miatas pedal placement is very smart idea. I upgraded from a old DFGT to a G29 and it feels worlds better for a cheap wheel at least.

The gas and clutch on the sprint pedals are also load cell. Love the sim content and would love to see you upgrade the wheel stand with extruded aluminum!

As an avid sim guy who has tried everything the best ROI by far is the Occulus Quest 2 it's awesome. Also I hated triples every game was a huge pain to get running correctly. I am currently running a Samsung Odyssey 49inch Ultra wide and I would say it gives you 80% of the triple monitor experience and it's as easy to use as any other single monitor. Nothing beats VR but some games don't support it and sometimes it's fun to just jump on and play Forza with your controller buddies and have some beers.

My thrustmaster tx is very nice for drifting I upgraded from a g27 and it was a huge step up I can actually correct and hold angle now. Wish a Fanatec was in my budget

I picked up a Valve Index back in 2020. It works great with steam games, as it's made by the same company, and the sensors are amazing for racing sims and other games that you drive/fly in. If you already have controllers or base stations, it's much cheaper to get into than what I had to do!

Great setup man! For VR , if you're thinking of getting the Oculus Quest 2, based on my experience (I had the OG Rift before I got a Quest), It seems like the field of view is narrower. Also the sweet spot for visual clarity is smaller too. I would look into other VR headsets if peripheral vision is important in your training. I heard the Pimax brand have way better fov, but I don't have one of those, so I can't confirm.

Dude its awesome to see you play Live For Speed. Been playing LFS since like 2003...and its still one of the best games to drift in. There is even mods now in LFS. Also you're the reason I have a Fanatec DD setup lol.

Biggest upgrade I had was from the Fanatec pedals (V1's) to the HE Sprints. Controlling inputs made the biggest difference. Also being able to adjust the throttle map to either be linear like a formula car to S shaped like a car running a butterfly throttle body was amazing. Taylor make sure you try that out. Next step was the wheel base. Going from a Fanatec v2,5 to the DD1 wasn't as big a step as I thought. I don't like running the wheel at stupid strength (most race cars these days are power steering anyway) so a v2.5 base will be plenty for all but elite drivers (there are still plenty of alien drivers using belt driven bases). I didn't know HE came out with a handbrake, my bank account isn't going to like this.

LFS is still my favorite. IMHO it has superior physics and the force feedback just feels SO MUCH better than it is in AC. Started in 2010 there.

For the steering wheel, could you set up a third leg going behind the pedals, so that you would have a fixed point from another angle, giving you less flex? Also, if you are set on where it will be for the foreseeable future, you could mount a bracket to the wall, and run it up to meet the assembly that the steering wheel sits on so that it makes it more rigid too.

Every rig moves without you sitting in it, the extra brace helps a lot I welded my own rig out of just 1x1” 0.045” wall aluminum had 2 braces for the wheel mount so 4 legs and it’s very solid on the csl dd, the dd1/dd2 base bigger issues is how long it is but the extra brace will definitely help, welding it all instead of hardware also helps if you are willing to commit to completely locked in

great video as always Taylor. Have you given any thought to a diy hydraulic setup for the handbrake? I just finished a build using a wilwood master and a wilwood pull type slave with some medium firm skateboard bushings on the slave cylinder. I paired it up with a 1000 psi pressure transducer and a arduino micro controller. It feels just like a real handbrake imo.

Coming from a Flight Simulation background and being a car guy myself, I can tell you with 100% certainty for a home racing setup a VR headset is the way to go when it comes to immersion and realism. As soon as you're able to see static parts of the room or monitors it will really take away from the immersion. Aside from having a full wrap around 3 or 4 projector collimated display setup, and an actual car dash/full setup, I would say a decent VR headset and motion seat is where it's at. What you want to look for in a good VR headset is mainly refresh rate, pixels per inch (ppi), resolution, and external motion sensors like you mentioned are typically much more accurate. I'd personally look at the Pimax 8k X, HTC Vive Pro 2, and Valve Index to start with. Also OLED technology is really where it's at, be cautious of "QLED" such as the Pimax but they're still decent.

Maybe I missed it but normally you need to mount the sensor to the rig so that it moves with the rig. That way your "play space" moves in relation to the actual movement in real life. Mount it right on top of the wheelbase to get it close to the headset to negate any added error with flex in the rig. Although your wheel flexes a lot maybe not be the best idea with your setup. That should fix all your sensor issues.

We tried that in the beggining and it caused weird issues. Sock on the sensor worked best.

Got my son a Quest 2 for Xmas and snagged the link cable, he loves it - I need to hook up the T150 wheel set I got him when he was 4 (got it so he could play Forza Horizon 3 since he couldn't hold a controller well enough but wanted to play with Dad). I do want to end up getting a good wheel & pedal set and that DD setup you have is on my list as it's an awesome wheel setup - pedals are still up in the air as I know asetek has started making pedal sets, but I need to see more feedback on if they're worth it or good. Also I'd recommend getting a PCIe USB 3 add-in card for your PC so you can have your switch box hooked up as well w/out issues - I bought a USB 3.2 (type A & C) for the VR link etc and it has come in handy even on my WS grade board/rig.

I’ve had a Thrustmasters TMX wheel, upgraded pedals (3 pedals vs original 2 pedal box) on a diy wooden frame, with a Miata handbrake wired in to the B (e-brake) button, and a folding chair for years now. It’s not the best feeling rig but It’s gotten my driving much further than I ever thought. I’ve driven some of my friends $X000 rigs that feel amazing, but I can tell you the curve of diminishing returns is real, it’s surprising how far $500-$600 can get you.

How much side-to-side space is needed by the H3 when it is in use? It seems the seat will swing outside the footprint of the base and I'm trying ot figure out the total width needed to allow the unit to move freely.

I wouldn't mind seeing a list of the sim setup alongside with more sim content! My "sim" rig is about the same cost as the Fanatec wheel base 😅.. Thrustmaster is great for me as a novice irl driver and as somebody who doesn't have a "track car".

Been using Live For Speed since 2006, And I can 100% agree, no other sim hits drifting on the mark like it does. there is just something about it. I really wish more people start jumping onto it, I never hear any regrets.

I just finished my sim if you want no wires for your vr I recommend the oculus quest 1 or 2 not having any wires dangling from your head makes it so much better
